Why LABSA is The Most Preferred Sulfonic Acid Linear Alkylbenzene Sulfonic Acid or also known as LABSA is an anionic surfactant that contains the anionic sulfonate and alkaline section. The molecules in anionic surfactants in LABSA are characterized by a hydrophobic and a hydrophilic groups. LABSA components are: Linear alkyl benzene, oxygen, sulfur, and citric acid. LABSA or also called LAS or LABS has a formula of CH3(CH2)11C6H4SO3H. LABSA has a yellow liquid in appearance, and with a boiling point of 315°C and melting point of 10°C.

Why LABSA is The Most Preferred Sulfonic Acid

Linear Alkylbenzene Sulfonic Acid or also known as LABSA is an anionic surfactant that contains the anionic sulfonate and alkaline section.

Linear alkylbenzene sulfonic acid has a complex mixture. This mixture contains similar of different alkyl chains that have the length from C10 to C14 and phenyl positional isomers from 2-phenyl to 5-phenyl. Those phenyl are proportions and dictated from the starting materials and the reactions caused by the conditions. Each of those pheryl contains an aromatic ring, this ring is sulfonated at para position. The rings are then connected to a linear alkyl chain in any position except for the terminal one or 1-pheryl. The production of LABSA is by sulfonation reaction of alkylbenzene with oleum in the batch reactors. Linear alkylbenzene is produced by alkylation of benzene with n-paraffins with hydrogen fluoride (HF) or aluminium chloride (AlCl3) as the catalyst, while sulphur trioxide is produced industrially through the contact process.

Advantages of LABSA

Nowadays, LABSA is the world’s largest-volume synthetic surfactant. LABSA supplier also expands, whereas the chemical supplier now supply LABSA as their products. There are several other surfactants worldwide, however suppliers choose LABSA because it has the lowest cost and other favorable properties compared with other surfactants. The wide use of LABSA is due to the benefit of this chemical, which are: low cost but with good performance and environmental friendly. Thus, making the chemical supplier love LABSA even more.

Linear alkylbenzene sulfonic acid is the most preferred to both customer and suppliers because -

● LABSA has an excellent solubility, even when its at low temperatures● LABSA has high power of foam, than other surfactants● LABSA is biodegradable, thus making it environmental friendly● LABSA has the lowest cost than other surfactants● LABSA has non hazardous materials

Use Of LABSA

LABSA has many advantages, and because of those reasons suppliers and customers preferred it for their products. LABSA’s suppliers usually distributed the product to household cleaning products manufacturers. Although, LABSA’s suppliers also distribute their products to numerous industrial manufactures such as the textile industry, paper industry, leather manufacture, and even the pesticide industry. Supplier of LABSA distribute their product widely because LABSA has many kinds of uses.

Applications Used by LABSA

Linear alkylbenzene sulfonic acid supply many uses in household products, such as laundry powders or detergents, dishwashing liquid, cleaning powder, and soaps. LABSA is majorly used in the production of soaps and detergents as their main active ingredients. The utilization of LABSA are for: raw material to produce different kinds of detergent and emulsion, cleaner and dyeing assistant in textile industrial, degreasing agent in electroplate and leather manufacture, and as deinking agent in paper making industry.
