Introduction to Tui Na Tuition: $200 Hours: 16 Dates: Saturdays 6/20, 7/18, 8/1, 8/15 Time: 9:00 am - 1:00 pm Instructor: Xavier Harvey Prerequisite: Structures & Functions I and II Description: (Tui) means to push and (Na) means to grasp. It’s a method of Chinese Bodywork that utilizes soft tissue manipulation, acupoints, and structural realignment methods to lessen or alleviate a wide variety of musculoskeletal and internal organ disorders. This class instructs on how and where to use these hand techniques and what affect they have on underlying tissue.

Introduction to Tai Chi Tuition: $200 Hours: 16 Dates: Tuesdays/Thursdays 7/30 - 8/25 Time: 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm Instructor: Xavier Harvey Description: The ancient art of Tai Chi uses gentle flowing movements to reduce stress of today’s busy lifestyles and improves health. In this class, the instructor presents an innovative method that makes learning both easy and enjoyable for beginners.

The class will discuss and learn techniques that help alleviate common client complaints, such as sinus congestion, headache, wrist pain and ankle pain.

Creative Movement (Movement For Massage Therapists) Tuition: $200 Hours: 16 Dates: Mondays 6/1 - 7/27 (No Class: 6/15) Time: 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm Instructor: Pamela West Required Materials: Loose, comfortable movement-friendly clothing Description: The experience of movement is an indispensable resource to develop your innate kinesthetic sense of anatomy. Classes begin with a warm up, then students will be guided in simple movement sequences, games and activities. We will explore these movements and their diagnostic and therapeutic uses. This is a fun class; if you like to move at all, it is a way to explore and expand what you know about movement and the body. No prior movement experience is necessary.

The Science of Ayurveda

Tuition: $203 Hours: 15 Dates: Saturday/Sunday 5/30 - 5/31 Time: 9:00 am - 5:00 pm Instructor: Corinne Corcoran Required Materials: Loose clothing, yoga mat, small blanket, two hand towels, meditation pillow or chair, mug, a change of socks and mirror. Required Texts: The Ayurveda Encyclopedia; Ayurveda Binder Description: This elective will introduce the student to the fundamentals of Ayurveda. It will look at the 5,000 year-old history & philosophy. Students will explore the 5-element theory and the 3 doshas. Also included: strategies for healthy digestion, purification techniques, sensory modulation, and Vedic chanting and toming for health and well being.

Introduction to Thai Massage Tuition: $200 Hours: 16 Dates: Tuesdays 6/2 - 6/30 (No Class: 6/23) Time: 5:30 pm - 9:30 pm Instructor: Xavier Harvey Prerequisite: Structures & Functions I and II Required Materials: Loose/comfortable clothing Description: Thai massage is based upon an integration of Indian Buddhist Medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine. Thai Massage utilizes hand techniques and a unique approach to passive movement and stretching to open the energy passages (sen lines) and release chronic tension from the body. This wonderful modality incorporates a spiritual dimension in its gentle and focused approach to Asian Bodywork. Students will learn how to palm and thumb walk these sen lines; and integrate yogic poses (asanas) while manipulating soft tissue. This course will be taught in the traditional fashion, fully clothed on shiatsu mats on the floor.

Pregnancy Massage Tuition: $100 Hours: 8 Date: Sunday 6/7 Time: 9:00 am - 5:30 pm Instructors: Sue DiGregorio Prerequisite: Therapeutic Massage Required Materials: Massage cream, linens, pillows Required Text: Mother Massage by Stillerman Description: This course instructs the skills and techniques necessary to massage healthy pregnant clients during the second and third trimesters.

Vibrational Healing and Muscle Testing Tuition: $200 Hours: 16 Dates: Wednesdays 6/10 - 7/1 Time: 5:30 pm - 9:30 pm Instructor: Corinne Corcoran Description: Students will learn about the human energy field and how to modulate and balance it. The course will cover ancient vibrational techniques such as hand scanning, unruffling, filling in energy deficits, and clearing congestion. Students will also learn the art of muscle testing, applied kinesiology, a valuable tool which lets the body speak for the mind. This course seeks to enhance and deepen the work of all somatic practitioners.

A Day of Myofascial Work - the Torso Tuition: $100 Hours: 8 Dates: Saturday 6/27 Time: 9:00 am - 5:30 pm Instructor: Pamela West Prerequisites: Specialized Myofascial Techniques (Level I) Description: Students will learn how relationships between the skeleton, the oblique sheaths and the psoas work together in supporting alignment of the torso. The torso facia has a different organization than the fascia of the limbs; we will look at these differences and how to adjust your work. Come prepared to learn, observe and work.

Assessment Techniques and Treatment Strategies Tuition: $300 Hours: 24 Dates: Sundays 6/28 - 7/26 (No Class: 7/5) Time: 9:00 am - 3:30 pm Instructor: Xavier Harvey Prerequisites: Therapeutic Massage, S&F I and II, Palpation & Kinesiology and Specialized Massage Techniques Required Materials: Linens; Males: sports shorts; Females: sports shorts and sports bra Description: This wonderful course will hone in on many skills briefly touched on in Palpation, Kinesiology and Deep Tissue. The course will discuss “normal” range of motion and learn how to assess joint, muscle/myofascial, ligament, tendon, and/or swelling dysfunctions. This course will also demonstrate common spring tests, range of motion test, and orthopedic assessment tests. Students will analyze different treatment strategies that will address the dysfunction that was uncovered with tools that are already in their tool belts (i.e. Therapeutic Massage, Myofascial I, Deep Tissue, etc).

Introduction to Shiatsu Tuition: $150 Hours: 12 Dates: Wednesdays 7/8 - 7/22 Time: 5:30 pm - 9:30 pm Instructor: Melanie Linton Required Materials: Linens, a pillow Recommended Text: Shiatsu Theory and Practice by Carola Beresford-Cooke (The textbook is not available at LIWS) Description: Students will learn some important basic concepts of Chinese Medicine followed by introduction to the 12 main Meridian Channels. The class will consist of Shiatsu bodywork techniques and pressure points that can be integrated into any massage practice.

Working With Complex People Tuition: $45 Hours: 3 Dates: Saturday 7/25 Time: 9:00 am - 12:00 pm Instructor: Pamela West Required Materials: Notebook and pen Description: A client’s somatic issues can be very complex and sometimes their personalities are too. Being selective in how you interact with your client can make a big difference in your success with them. We will discuss some communication styles you might come into contact with and how you can best be effective with what is presented.

Revitalizing Health Tuition: $200 Hours: 16 Dates: Wednesdays, 7/29 - 8/19 Time: 5:30 pm - 9:30 pm Instructor: Corinne Corcoran Description: From an orthomolecular approach, students will learn about the five major causal factors in body-mind imbalances and diseases. We will look at: oxidative stress, inflammation, malnutrition, toxicity, and disturbed metabolism. As we face challenges from daily stress, industrialized food (GMO’s and Hybridized grains), and pollutants in air and water, this course provides road maps for managing optimum health and longevity in this modern age. We will explore causal factors for chronic illness and how to rebalance the system as a whole. In particular, we will look at food as medicine. Students will also learn the 8 Pieces of Brocade Qi Gong Exercise or Ba Duan Jin. This course will benefit the individual searching for ways to master their health as well as the health professional who wants to service their clients with deeper insights and innovative strategies.

Pathology for Herbalists Tuition: $360 Hours: 30 Dates: Mondays 6/1 - 8/3 Time: 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm Instructor: Adam Travia Description: This course presents students with an overview of various conditions and how to approach them as an herbalist. Each body system will be looked at and individual pathologies studied in depth. Practical treatment plans for each pathology will be developed in class to build clinical skills.

Botany & Wildcrafting Tuition: $360 Hours: 30 Dates: Thursdays 6/4 - 8/13 (No Class: 7/2) Time: 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm Instructor: Adam Travia Required Text: Botany in a Day Description: This course presents an in-depth study of plant botany with special emphasis on identification, cultivation, and harvesting. There will be various field trips for hands on identification. Safety and ethical harvesting are emphasized.

Herbal Clinic - Level 1 Tuition: $188 Hours: 16 Dates: Saturdays 6/13, 6/27, 7/18, 8/15 Time: 9:00 am - 1:00 pm Instructor: Adam Travia Description: The clinic will allow students to work directly with clients from intake to protocol development. Students will work both one on one and in a group consultation to develop personalized formulas and recommendations to help address client’s specific needs. Students will act both as practitioner and medicine maker.

Yoga Nidra Teacher Training - Level II Tuition: $100 Hours: 8 Date: Saturday 6/6 Sunday 6/14 Time: 9:00 am - 1:00 pm Instructor: Barbara Moeller Description: An overview of the concepts and techniques of Level I training will be reviewed and discussed. The focus of Level II training will be the study of working with groups/individuals as well as course development of a 4 week series for a community program. Strategies that will be incorporated include partner practice and collaboration in lesson design and implementation. The instructor will also present and model new scripts for yoga nidra practice. Please bring your Yoga Nidra - Level I binder with you for this training.

Kundalini Yoga and Chant for Women Tuition: $60 Hours: 6 Date: Sunday, 6/7 Time: 9:00 am - 3:30 pm Instructor: Michelle Carlino Description: Kundalini yoga is a powerful practice for balancing and strengthening the body. It is a technology that works deeply on shifting the body's energy at the cellular level. This class will include kryias, meditation and chants designed specifically for supporting a woman's health on all levels. Deep relaxation and sound healing will complete the restorative process. No prior experience with kundalini yoga is needed for this class.

Prana Yoga / Chanting the Chakras Tuition: $60 Hours: 6 Date: Sunday, 7/12 Time: 9:00 am - 3:30 pm Instructor: Michelle Carlino Description: According to ancient scriptures, each of the chakras have individual sounds which when spoken, increase and move the life force of prana through the body. Prana yoga is a form of yoga in which a powerful flow of energy is opened through the practice of yoga postures combined with chakra sounds and simple breathing techniques. In this workshop, we will learn about the healing and rejuvenating power of prana using methodology to recharge and balance the adrenals, thyroid and glandular system, while relaxing the nerves and reducing stress.

Background data as well as experiential study and partner practice will support instruction for clients suffering from multiple sclerosis, arthritis, fibromyalgia, back pain, chronic fatigue, and other auto immune challenges.

Five Day Yoga And Meditation Retreat Tuition: $465 Hours: 30 Date: Wednesday 7/22/15 - Sunday 7/26/15 Time: 9:00 am - 4:00 pm Instructor: Michelle Carlino / Nita Spielberg Description: Lourdes Institute of Wholistic Studies presents a spirit-filled offering of the required retreat for 300YTT candidates. The start of the retreat will be activity-based with advanced asana, active pranayama, and directed meditation practice. As the week advances, students will move into the depths of slow flow... then quiet...then stillness. Participants will be introduced to raw juice fasting and will receive opportunities for journaling, creative pursuits, contemplation, and prayer. This retreat is also open to serious students of yoga and meditation. Students have the option to repeat this retreat experience.

Going Deep: Yoga Mandala, Mudra, Mantra Tuition: $60 Hours: 4 Date: Saturday 8/1 Time: 9:00 am - 1:00 pm Instructor: Barbara Moeller Description: The word mandala finds its root in Sanskrit, meaning circle completion. Many spiritual traditions use the circle as a way to map out sacred space. We will do just that as we explore circular patterns in asana flow complimented by mudra (hand gesture). We will journey from movement to stillness, seeking that core circle that lies within in mantra meditation.

Pelvic Floor Anatomy Tuition: $60 Hours: 4 Date: Sunday, 8/9 Time: 9:00 am - 1:00 pm Instructor: Nita Spielberg Description: --For Women Only-- Learn anatomy of the female pelvic floor and how this anatomy is affected by and can affect yoga asana and pranayama. The use of "bandhas" is explored. Proper use of core muscles and maintaining healthy pelvic floor tone will be experienced through class, individual and partner work. There will be opportunity to discuss therapeutic work for pelvic floor issues such as incontinence, urgency, excessive or lack of tone and problems that can ensue from each. Women who have particular concerns are welcome to and encouraged to contact the instructor beforehand. Nita Spielberg has been trained by Leslie Howard, a leading international expert on pelvic floor health and issues and is listed under Pelvic Floor Resources on her website, www.lesliehowardyoga.com.
