Leading Together supports schools to build and sustain strong leadership teams. It’s a free two-year programme

aimed at schools in areas of greatest need. Leading Together is unique in the education sector, providing bespoke

support for a school’s entire senior leadership team over a sustained period. The programme works to support a

school’s own improvement journey by building leadership capacity across the team and beyond. It also helps schools

build a culture and environment in which all teachers and pupils can thrive.

Careers Programme Leads provide training to school careers leaders to support them in developing a whole school

careers strategy and implementation plan. This is achieved through a mix of online learning, face to face training and

121 support. Working alongside the Schools Relationships team we also target and recruit new schools to the

programme.

About Katya Anfilogoff – School Partnerships Lead

• I joined the School Partnerships Team in January and am also a 2015 MFL Ambassador from East of England. I moved to Sheffield from the South last year and I already can’t imagine living outside of Yorkshire!

Things I like about Yorkshire and the Humber

• It’s true that people here are so much friendlier than where I’m from, but the biggest draw for me is living in a city so close to beautiful countryside. You’re spoiled for choice between the Peaks, Moors and the coast when it comes to beautiful walks and cosy pubs.

About Geoffrey Baddock – Development Lead (Time to Teach)

• I live in Holmfirth, near Huddersfield. I’m from the south of England originally but have now lived in West Yorkshire for over 25 years. I am a mathematics Development Lead working on the Time To Teach programme. Prior to this I was PGCE mathematics Course Leader at the University Centre of Bradford College after nearly 30 years teaching mathematics in a variety of roles/schools across the country.

Things I like about Yorkshire and the Humber

• Yorkshire has everything – vibrant cities, stunning countryside, great people, loads to do, with good access to the rest of the country and beyond.

About Emilio Bayarri-Torres – Development Lead (Secondary)

• Although originally from Valencia, Spain, I made Sheffield my home 15 years ago! I live in this lovely city with my family and really enjoy everything it has to offer from amazing food to all the green spaces!

Things I like about Yorkshire and the Humber

• I discovered Yorkshire the very first time I came to England for a summer school stay (when I was 16) and Ioved it so much I returned as an adult and settled here. The Peak District with all the hiking routes, the coast… but most importantly, the people! Get out there and explore, you won’t be disappointed

About Sophia Bennett – School Partnerships Lead

• I love working with schools to understand their needs and brokering support for them through our programmes or indeed by matching one of you to their team. I am an adopted Yorkshire woman having lived here for 17 years, originally being from Hertfordshire.

Things I like about Yorkshire and the Humber.

• My favourite place to visit is Salts Mill in Saltaire whether its coffee and a mooch on my own or a play at the park and a ride on the cable tram with my little boy. Definitely find time for a trip.

Getting to Know Us

Page 6: Who’s Who in Yorkshire and the Humber · 2020-06-03 · • Despite being born on the other side of the Pennines, I have spent most of my life in Yorkshire, having gone to Sheffield

About Laurane Black – Programme & Events Lead

• I live in Heckmondwike, about 10 miles SW of Leeds after moving here from The Wirral 23 years ago. My partner is also from The Wirral but our son is 13 and a real Yorkshire Lad (with a bit of a Scouse accent!). I’ve worked at Teach First for 8 years arranging logistics for Summer Institute and Training Days and prior to that spent 26 years at a bank and have managed events for 20+ years.

Things I like about Yorkshire and the Humber

• There are so many lovely places to visit but if I had to pick only one it would be to treat myself to afternoon tea at Betty’s (York, Harrogate, Ilkley) and of course a Fat Rascal! Leeds is great for shopping, bars and eating out. I’m also handy for both the M62 and M1, and only 3 miles from Birstall for M&S Food, The Range and IKEA!

About Ailsa Brown – Careers Programme Lead

• I’m based in Selby and currently run the Careers Leader programme in the region. Prior to it being brought to a close I was responsible for Teach First’s university access programme, Futures. Before coming to Teach First I worked for a business and education partnership for eight years supporting schools with their enterprise and employability provision for students.

Things I like about Yorkshire and the Humber

• I’ve lived in Yorkshire and the Humber my whole life and really value the mix of city/rural living it has to offer. I live in Selby which has great transport links to London, York, Leeds, Hull (to name a few). While at the same time it provides a more community lifestyle and is definitely better value for money when it comes to housing costs!

About Ailsa Campbell – Development Lead (Secondary)

• I am from Yorkshire and live in Leeds. Before becoming a Development Lead I worked in schools in Huddersfield and Leeds as an English Teacher to start with, then progressing into Senior Leadership. It’s a real privilege to work with trainee teachers and be part of their development and success in the classroom.

Things I like about Yorkshire and the Humber

• I love Yorkshire for its stunning countryside, its diversity, and its people, and I would not want to live anywhere else. I am really looking forward to being able to get out into the Yorkshire Dales for long walks and pub lunches again.

About Phil Campbell – Development Lead (Secondary)

• I live in York and have been a Development Lead in Yorkshire and Humber since August 2018; before then I worked at York High School and during my time there I had a variety of roles including Head of History, Head of PSE and Lead Teacher for Teaching and Learning Developments.

Things I like about Yorkshire and the Humber

• Despite being born on the other side of the Pennines, I have spent most of my life in Yorkshire, having gone to Sheffield University in 1989 and not leaving “God’s Own County” since. I love the countryside, the coastline and the pubs - but I remain a Manchester United fanatic!

Page 7: Who’s Who in Yorkshire and the Humber · 2020-06-03 · • Despite being born on the other side of the Pennines, I have spent most of my life in Yorkshire, having gone to Sheffield

About Kris Dunn – Development Lead (Secondary)

• I trained as an English teacher with Teach First in 2012 in a school in Sheffield, so am a Teach First Ambassador as well as a Development Lead. I’m originally from Newcastle and have lived in various places over the years, but had never set foot in Sheffield until the first day of Summer Institute. I now very much consider Yorkshire to be home and wouldn’t want to live anywhere else! Sheffield is a great city with a strong independent spirt.

Things I like most about Yorkshire and the Humber

• What I most enjoy is the amount of green space, both in the city itself, and also in the Peak District which is just next door.

About Charlotte Foss – Programme & Events Lead

• After graduating from Manchester with an Events Management degree, I started working with Teach First and 6½ years later I’m still here! I am a musical theatre geek and can often be found on the stage around Leeds and Bradford, and just finished Oklahoma the day before lockdown! I have lived in Bradford most of my life but am looking forward to moving to Rawdon where we have just bought our first house.

Things I like about Yorkshire and the Humber

• Mostly how friendly everyone is! ! I really love the amazing canal and river walks Bradford has to offer and there are some really beautiful towns such as Saltaire! Not forgetting it is home to some of my favourite foods … Gravy and Yorkshires!

About John Forrest – Development Lead (Secondary)

• I grew up in Liverpool but have lived in Leeds since coming to university here in 2003. Having worked in various positions in schools in Leeds, I have been working for Teach First since August 2018. I currently live in Farsley with my wife and our 3 year old daughter.

Things I like about Yorkshire and the Humber

• Yorkshire and Humber is a great region to live in, one of my favourite things is that you can live in so many places that are relatively close to the buzz of a city centre whilst also being close to some amazing walks in the countryside.

About Mark Gibson – Regional Manager – Programmes

• Closing in on a decade working for Teach First, as Regional Manager – Programmes I work alongside Ruth (below) to manage the Development Lead team and oversee the running of the Training Programme. I currently live halfway between York and Leeds, having moved up from the West Midlands in 2013. Prior to this I worked for Teach First in Birmingham having been a science teacher and completing the Teach First Programme down there.

Things I like about Yorkshire and the Humber

• Being an adopted Yorkshireman, it did not take me long to fall in love with up here. There is a great balance of vibrant cities, historic towns and beautiful countryside. I particularly love the Dales for the hills and the Moors for its coastline.

Page 8: Who’s Who in Yorkshire and the Humber · 2020-06-03 · • Despite being born on the other side of the Pennines, I have spent most of my life in Yorkshire, having gone to Sheffield

About Jacky Gledhill – Development Lead (Secondary)

• I was a middle and senior Leader at schools in Rotherham and Barnsley and an Associate Lecturer for Sheffield Hallam University. I joined Teach First as a Development Lead in August 2017 and the majority of my portfolio is now in the North Yorkshire Coastal /North Humber region.

Things I like about Yorkshire and the Humber

• I have lived in South Yorkshire but will move permanently to Bridlington this summer as I love walking near the sea no matter what the weather. This is my favourite place but I also love the diversity of Yorkshire from our large cities and villages to our wolds and moors.

About Carol Gormley – Regional Director

• Prior to joining Teach First I taught French and Spanish in secondary schools in Rotherham and Sheffield before becoming an Assistant Headteacher and then Headteacher. I joined Teach First in 2013 and have the privilege of leading the regional team in Yorkshire and Humber supporting over almost 500 trainees across our 2018, 2019 and 2020 cohort

Things I love about Yorkshire and the Humber

• I am originally from County Armagh in Northern Ireland but have been living in Yorkshire for over 30 years so it is my adopted homeland! I am fortunate to live in a beautiful area just on the edge of the Pennines where I can do a lot of running in open countryside. This is a beautiful region and I am proud to live and work here.

About Pete Hadfield – Development Lead (Secondary)

• I’ve worked supporting trainee teachers with Teach First for 3 years and love what I do! Before that I worked as a Head of Department (Social Sciences) and as a T&L lead in Barnsley and Leeds.

Things I love about Yorkshire and the Humber

• I love the variety of the Yorkshire landscape and how approachable the people are! Pontefract Cakes, Taylors coffee and Magic Rock brewery are the icing on a very big cake! Not forgetting that the England Cricket team production line is located in Headingly.

About Nick Harrison – Achievement Partner (Leading Together)

• I am an Achievement Partner (Secondary) working together with senior leadership teams in secondary schools in Sheffield and Doncaster as part of the Leading Together programme. My previous roles included leadership and Headship in schools and academies in Birkenhead and North Wales, a Senior Education Lead with SSAT, and an Associate Consultant with We Are Innovative (IVE) in Leeds.

Things I like about Yorkshire and the Humber

• I am a Governor of a Primary School and secondary academy in Chester and Wirral. I enjoy swimming, the arts and reading. I live in Chester and what I love about Yorkshire and the Humber is the warmth, generosity and friendliness that exists in the region and the wonderful culture and scenery.

Page 9: Who’s Who in Yorkshire and the Humber · 2020-06-03 · • Despite being born on the other side of the Pennines, I have spent most of my life in Yorkshire, having gone to Sheffield

About Clair Hughes – Development Lead (Primary)

• I have been a primary Development Lead in Yorkshire and the Humber for coming up to 3 years. Prior to this, I taught in a variety of schools for 16 years. Subjects I have led include Literacy, Science and Art. I live in Sheffield with my husband and two daughters.

Things I like about Yorkshire and the Humber

• Sheffield has more trees per person than any other city in Europe. I love how easy it is to get out into green space – the woods, Peak District, parks and so on. I also love the sea, so being able to head over to other parts of the region to walk on the beach is amazing!

About Jane I’Anson – Regional Manager, School Partnerships

• After 14 years in secondary teaching and school leadership, I am now Regional Manager for School Partnerships in Yorkshire and the Humber. I am really proud to be part of Teach First because of the impact of what we do - nothing could boost the life chances of young people more than getting excellent, motivated teachers in front of them wherever they are.

Things I like about Yorkshire and the Humber

• I am classed as a traitor in my native county of Lancashire because I have defected to Yorkshire and will now never leave. I live on the side of a hill in Wharfedale near beautiful forests, wildlife and countryside which sounds peaceful but it isn’t really, due to my lively toddler and demanding pets. We are really happy to welcome you to the (best) region!

About Rhiannon Jones – Development Lead (Primary)

• I’ve worked for Teach First for six years after teaching in Primary schools in Sheffield, where I live. I have a passion for teaching Primary Maths and led the subject in two schools. I’m really proud to work in the Yorkshire and Humber region – the schools, pupils and trainees with whom we work are amazing.

Things I like about Yorkshire and the Humber

• My favourite thing about Yorkshire and the Humber is definitely the outdoors – from the Peak District to the East Yorkshire and Humber coastline, there are some amazing places to be out and about. Oh, and the brews … there’s nothing that beats a strong cup of Yorkshire Tea!

About Amanda Joy – Regional Coordinator

• I live in Leeds and joined Teach First a year ago after working for a fundraising company that supported charities such as Barnado’s, Marie Curie and Save the Children. I love gardening and have just got my own allotment, baking cakes (which I then have to try to resist eating!) and film photography.

Things I like about Yorkshire and the Humber

• One word – Yorkshire Puddings. If I could, I would eat them for breakfast, dinner and tea!

Page 10: Who’s Who in Yorkshire and the Humber · 2020-06-03 · • Despite being born on the other side of the Pennines, I have spent most of my life in Yorkshire, having gone to Sheffield

About Lucy Mason – Development Lead (Time to Teach)

• I trained as a science teacher with Teach First, originally in London – but have been in Leeds for 8 years now.

Things I like about Yorkshire and the Humber

• I’ve made Yorkshire my home because there’s everything London had, but with more space, nicer folks and much more fresh air! Can’t wait to meet you all on your exciting journeys to the classroom.

About Ruth McDonald – Regional Manager - Programmes

• As Regional Manager – Programmes I support the coordination and delivery of the Training Programme and Time to Teach. It is a privilege to work with the fantastic Development Lead specialists supporting new teachers on our programmes. I am based in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, where I worked as a PE teacher. I found a love of mentoring and supporting new and developing teachers as NQT/ITT Coordinator in school, providing professional development for a range of teachers over this time.

Things I like about Yorkshire and the Humber

• Yorkshire is a wonderful place to live and work, I love to visit the great Yorkshire coast with my family to explore quaint coves, sandy beaches and craggy cliffs. I have the Yorkshire Wildlife Park on my doorstep and can often be found mingling with the Wallabies and Lemurs.

About Tim Mobbs – Development Lead (Primary)

• I’m really looking forward to meeting in person but here is a bit about me. I live between Leeds, Bradford, Calderdale and Kirklees which gives me amazing access to cities and countryside – and IKEA for emergency furniture or hotdog purchases. I am a primary teacher who trained with Teach First many years ago and a proud ambassador. I love working with such an engaged and energised community of people.

Things I like about Yorkshire and the Humber

• I love writing, rugby (any sport really) and food so living in Yorkshire is perfect! There are so many great sports clubs, restaurants and inspirational places. I can highly recommend Bradford for incredible curry and Shibden Mill Inn for an incredible Sunday lunch in the countryside.

About Leanne Morris – Development Lead (Secondary)

• Before this role I taught PE in secondary schools in Merseyside and South Yorkshire; before progressing to be a Head of Year responsible for pupil attainment, attendance and behaviour. I now live in Doncaster and love working with trainee teachers within our fantastic partner schools throughout Yorkshire and the Humber.

Things I like about Yorkshire and the Humber

• After some time away from Yorkshire for university I couldn’t wait to return. I don’t think you can beat walks in the Peak District, the fantastic restaurants and bars throughout Sheffield, Leeds and York, the Doncaster Wildlife Park and shopping at Meadowhall!

Page 11: Who’s Who in Yorkshire and the Humber · 2020-06-03 · • Despite being born on the other side of the Pennines, I have spent most of my life in Yorkshire, having gone to Sheffield

About Dave Nash – Development Lead (Secondary)

• I live in Sheffield with my wife Jen and two children, Aimée, 13, and Jack, 11. I was born and raised in the Garden of England (Kent) but have now lived in Sheffield for 24 years, meaning 1) I’m old, and 2) I love Sheffield. I taught MFL for 16 years in Rotherham before joining Teach First to support trainees and NQTs at the start of their teaching journey.

Things I like about Yorkshire and the Humber

• I love Yorkshire, and living in Sheffield. Family walks in the country, followed by lunch in a remote country pub are a highlight. I also enjoy the perks of being in a big city … plenty of shops, bars, restaurants and sporting opportunities – golf, tennis, squash etc. Welcome to Yorkshire and the Humber!

About Judy Ogden – Development Lead (Secondary)

• I’ve worked with Teach First since they arrived in Yorkshire in 2009. I became a Development Lead after 23 years’ experience working in and with schools facing challenging circumstances. I taught MFL and was an Assistant Head teacher, Vice Principal and Education Advisor. I also worked as a Senior Lecturer at SHU. I am based in South Yorkshire having also lived and taught in the West Midlands.

Things I like about Yorkshire and the Humber

• I enjoy being close to Derbyshire and so many major cities as I enjoy the theatre, shopping and spending time with family and friends. It is also great to be in a region where you can pop to the coast and visit the sea for the day.

About Alice O’Neill – Development Lead (Secondary)

• I live in Leeds and the schools that I work in are based there and in Calderdale. I’m a 2011 ambassador who taught English in Bradford, so can relate to the excitement and nerves you’re probably feeling in the run up to Summer Institute! I love working with trainees in schools and being behind them every step of the way, watching them blossom into phenomenal teachers.

Things I like about Yorkshire and the Humber

• When I’m not at work I like to travel around God’s own county and further afield. After moving here 12 years ago, I’ve never wanted to live anywhere else as there is just so much to enjoy on your doorstep. There are some fantastic cities to explore, stunning coastline and incredible countryside. One of my favourite places to visit is Brimham Rocks; it’s a beautiful drive and great fun to clamber around.

About Katy Parker – Development Lead (Primary)

• Before joining Teach First, I worked for over 15 years in Education, in many roles from teaching assistant to Deputy Head. I feel privileged to work for Teach First to support their mission for a fair education for all and to support my trainees in becoming great teachers and leaders.

Things I like about Yorkshire and the Humber

• Born and bred in Yorkshire I love it for Leeds United, it’s fabulous running routes and the great people.

Page 12: Who’s Who in Yorkshire and the Humber · 2020-06-03 · • Despite being born on the other side of the Pennines, I have spent most of my life in Yorkshire, having gone to Sheffield

About Kim Porter – Achievement Partner (Leading Together)

• I live with my family near Hebden Bridge (fourth funkiest town in the world allegedly!) in the Pennines between Manchester and Leeds. I have had a long and diverse career in early years and primary education, teaching across EYFS to Y6 prior to headship in Calderdale. My current role is Achievement Partner with Leading Together supporting six primary schools in the region.

Things I like about Yorkshire and the Humber

• I have lived in Yorkshire since coming to Leeds University in 1984 from London and have lived in Leeds and then Hebden Bridge. I love where we live, the scenery, the people and the pace of life. We are so lucky to have such beautiful landscapes - my favourites seaside resort of Robin Hood’s Bay, and the ever-green Yorkshire Dales. The best place on earth - at least when the sun is shining!

About Danielle Tindall de Carolis – Schools Coordinator

• I play a key role in supporting the Regional School Partnerships Team to secure placements for all Teach First Trainees and started Teach First in September 2019. I have worked in the education sector for over 10 years, most recently at Sheffield Hallam University as a ‘Sports Development Officer’ where I spent 5 years engaging young people in a variety of programmes which I developed to enhance the wellbeing of students at the university.

Things I like about Yorkshire and the Humber

• I love its green spaces and parks; there are 250 parks, woodlands and gardens within Sheffield and it is a great way to escape the hustle and bustle of city life.

About Charlie Wild – School Partnership Lead

• I graduated from Sheffield Hallam University in 2013 with a degree in History. Following university, I lived in Manchester and Newcastle before returning to Sheffield last year. I began working for Teach First about 4 years ago. Alongside working for Teach First I am amateur boxer and spend lots of time being hit in the face.

Things I like about Yorkshire and the Humber

• Yorkshire is a fantastic place to live, the people are lovely, and the scenery is amazing. From the Yorkshire dales to the coastal areas of Scarborough and Whitby. Living in Sheffield is brilliant. There are so many greens spaces and the Peaks are less than 3 miles from my house. I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else now I’m settled back in my Uni city.

About Sheena Winchester – Development Lead (Time to Teach)

• I spent most of my career working in Inclusion and teaching English in secondary schools. After I (almost) retired, I linked up with Teach First as a tutor at Sheffield Hallam University, before joining the Time to Teach team as the Development Lead for English.

Things I like about Yorkshire and the Humber

• I’m from Newcastle, so Yorkshire feels like the South to me! I love the people and the hills - and it’s a bit warmer, too!
