Delivering on the SDGs commitment from the international community requires sustainable mobility

Without transport…

Children cannot go to school

Farmers can’t take their goods to markets

Sick and injured can’t get to hospitals

There is limited access to jobs and prosperity

Page 3: WHO - Sustainable Mobility for All · And yet, the world is off track on sustainable mobility Many Excluded 450 M (est.) people in Africa do not have access to an all-weather road

And yet, the world is off track on sustainable mobility

Many Excluded

450 M (est.)

people in Africa do not have access

to an all-weather road.

Gender Based Violence

6 in 10 women in

major Latin Americans cities are

subject to physical harassment using

transport systems.

High Logistical Costs

20% lower GDP

with no access to the sea.

Road traffic fatalities

97% of total fatalities in the

transport sector attributed to road

transport.

Air Pollution

3 M people killed by

ambient air pollution

annually.

Greenhouse Gas Emissions

23% of global energy related

greenhouse gas emissions attributed to the

transport sector.

Page 4: WHO - Sustainable Mobility for All · And yet, the world is off track on sustainable mobility Many Excluded 450 M (est.) people in Africa do not have access to an all-weather road

Why a disconnect between ambition and reality?

Fragmentation: Multiple transport actors and stakeholders act in isolation

and work on an ad-hoc basis.

Lack of Leadership: Inability of an actor to provide legitimate leadership

on behalf of the entire sector.

No One Voice: The transport community failed to talk with one voice to

influence global processes, such as the SDG’s and the Climate Change

debate.

pollution)

GREEN

Avoid fatalities, injuries,

and crashes from

transport mishaps

SAFETY

Connect all people and

communities to

economic and social

opportunities, including

women

2. The Global Tracking Framework

To measure progress, the report proposes a Global Tracking

Framework (GTF) that covers existing targets and relevant

transport-related indicators, including those already identified as

part of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

3. The Global Roadmap of Action

• A set of policy recommendations and actions that countries can take to achieve sustainable mobility.

• It will be global in nature with some specificity for example by region, by income group, etc.

• The roadmap will be informed by both data and existing conventions/agreements.
