Learn how corporate medical director services can be scaled to the needs of your business.

Alken Health Resources provides enlightened corporate executives with “hands on the levers” control of the

key cost drivers for healthcare, wellness and overall benefits spending. Serving as an outsourced Corporate

Medical Director, Kenneth D. Wells, MD, MBA provides strategic insight to management combined with tacti-

cal programs tailored to each unique company in its particular industry sector.

In 2009, healthcare costs jumped from 16 percent to more than 17 percent of the U.S.

gross domestic product (GDP) (fig.1), and these costs are on their way to 20 percent or

more of GDP by the end of this decade 1. Health insurance premiums rose four times

faster than the consumer price index (CPI) between 1999 and 2009 2.

Corporate executives worry about waste—misallocated corporate spending on healthcare, wellness and

benefits. A second key area of concern is unmanaged risk—unidentified health risks within the employee

census that could be altered and controlled.

Alken Health Resources, in conjunction with its alliance partners, develops solutions that give executive

management the levers to control long-term health cost spending, based on effective health cost diagnostics.

An effective solution begins with a good diagnosis. Alken Health Resources helps put your finger on the pulse

of your people with analysis that encompasses health, wellness and the economics that drive costs.

Know where to allocate spending to make a difference—for employees and your bottom line.

IDENTIFYING AND MANAGING STRESS

Stress is a quiet contributor to spiraling health costs. The U.S. Bureau of Labor estimates that stress costs

businesses more than $300 Billion annually 3. Alken can identify stress points in the workplace and propose

an integrated solution.

With less buying power than Fortune 500 companies, smaller businesses pay up to 18 percent more

than large firms for the same health insurance 4. And according to the Kaiser Family Foundation, this

disadvantage makes it even more difficult for smaller businesses to fund wellness initiatives that could

help impact this problem.

Kaiser reports that small business employers are 75 percent less likely

than larger companies to offer employees a health risk assessment,

and 80 percent less likely to offer financial incentives to employees

who complete a health risk assessment (fig.2) 5. Thus continuing the

likelihood that major cost drivers are not controlled, and ensuring that

smaller businesses continue to suffer–without intervention. fig.2

• Personal medical advocacy

• Specialty referrals

• Medical Director services

• Medical tourism

• Medical records maintenance and security

Alken Health Resources addresses this disparity by tailoring both strategic consulting services and tactical programs

that are scalable for small and medium businesses (SMBs). Bringing more than 20 years of experience, much of it

as Corporate Medical Director for Fortune 500 companies, Dr. Ken Wells develops solutions appropriate to each

business (and its industry sector), from one hundred employees in a machine shop to a vast global enterprise.
