A message from the JPC
Group By Soo Jung Jin Students Against Dangerous Driving at JPC aim to raise awareness amongst young people about the dangers of unsafe driving. Road death is the second most common cause of death for young New Zealanders and every year on average about 110 young people (aged 17-24) die on NZ roads in crashes caused by dangerous driving. The most dangerous time for young drivers is the initial six months after they get their restricted licence and teenagers are 18% more likely to be involved in serious road accidents.
Learning to drive and getting our license is a very exciting time; we finally get to start driving, we can go anywhere and gain some independence. However, a text message, an argument, distractions from passengers, fatigue, substance use or just a single alcoholic drink are all potential causes of accidents. As teenagers, we may think that we've heard this over a thousand times and that ‘it won’t happen to me’, but think…………. Why are so many young people dying on our roads?
The SADD message is, that we as young drivers can and should make the right decisions to protect ourselves, but others too. We want to encourage all young drivers here at JPC to think carefully about the choices they make before they get into a car to drive or as a passenger. We want to change the ideology from, ‘it won’t happen to me’ to ‘that could be me?’ . For more information about SADD or if you are interested in joining the JPC SADD group visit https://sadd.org.nz/ or come and chat to Mrs Fraser.

Asthma NZ ramped up our patient contact and as a consequence have educated more people in 3-months than the previous 12. We have a number of patients really committed to self-managing which is what we have always wished for. In order to keep the energy and effort up we are running an asthma management challenge over the month of July. I thought it would be awesome to extend this to your community as the more folk we can have managing their asthma now the better we will all come through winter. Attached is the promo piece and here is the link to register. I have recorded a video introducing the challenge if you think that useful also.
