Consultation on communication
Thank you to everyone who responded (33 in total).
The vast majority like the fortnightly newsletter and includes all the information needed.
Majority are happy to receive in electronic form, however there are some who wish for it to
be in paper form.
Action: move to electronic and sharing via e mail, but offer paper so that the information
reaches all our parents.
Class e mail - Well received by every year 6 parent response.
Social Media - Equal responses for and against the use of social media (Twitter and
Facebook). Comments included ‘engaging with social media would be a double
edged sword: good for promoting the school but bad because of the extra administration
involved and privacy such as child protection issues etc. On balance I think a good website
gives a good enough outward appearance with manageable levels of administration’.
Action: refresh and promote the web site. Review to ensure there is sufficient marketing of
the school.
Face to face communication - Nearly everyone said that parents evenings gives them the
information they require. Information sessions were also popular and useful. Speaking to a
teacher was easy for most and those who didn’t, work was a barrier to speaking and so
E-mail had successfully been used. 66% of responses felt that the parents’ evenings were
frequent enough.
Action: add another (informal) drop in evening for parents early in early summer term.
Action: Information sessions - alternate offering after school, and after 6pm and monitor
attendance.
Other comments - Reminder board in playground is great. Appreciate information sent
home. Oak class selfie-pegs are great. Texting is useful for reminders. Assembly dates on
website and newsletter are useful.
Action: Investigate if consent possible on school gateway to reduce paper.
Action: Ensure dates and any alterations are communicated as soon as possible.
Founders Day/Thinking Day
Every year on 22nd February, we celebrate World Thinking Day/Founders Day. This is a

globe. Children can come to school in their club uniform tomorrow—we would love to see
them.
This is the main choice—there is
a vegetarian option, jacket
potato and sandwiches

Red Nose Day Friday 15th March 2019
This year Willow Class are raising money for Comic Relief in 2 ways. You can
pay £1 to come in non-uniform that day and also use your artistic abilities to
design your own Red Nose. Each child has been given an entry form, the cost
to enter is 20p and your designs must be in school by Friday 8th March (names
on back of forms please). There will be one prize per class kindly donated by
the teachers. Don’t forget to wear your red nose. More noses available at
Sainsbury’s as we have sold all 120.
Raving Readers
Well done to all our pupils, everyone has had a non-uniform day. Over the
half-term please continue to read and record. 9 steps on the chart are
possible if you read and record it each day (these can be either school
reading books or books you already have at home) As the planners
don’t allow for holidays we have created a sheet (attached) for you to
record the reading - please fill in daily and return on the first day back, then
we shall return to using the planner in the same way it had been.
Internet Safety
Many thanks to the parents who were able to stop after school and attend
the internet safety talk last week. We have up-dated the school web page
information in light of the latest advice. ‘Google’ are coming to lead a key
stage 2 (Y3-Y6) assembly on internet safety, this Friday.
PTA News
Gargrave Primary School PTA have been asked to provide refreshments at
West Marton Village Hall on Saturday April 6th. There is a craft fair on from
10am until 3pm. All money raised from refreshments will be ours to keep! If
anyone is able to help out even for 1 hour, please let the committee know.
Easter Egg Bingo isn't far away now, as always we ask for donations of Easter
Eggs to give out on the day, we try to make sure that every child leaves with
one!
Do any of our parents/grandparents/carers work for a company who match
fund? If this is a way in which you can help with our fundraising, please get in
touch.
The next PTA meeting is 19th March at 2.30pm in school. Our email address is
World Book Day
A reminder that World Book Day is on Thursday 7th March. The theme this year
is ‘sharing stories from breakfast to bedtime’. We are inviting all children to
bring a photograph to school on world book day showing their sharing stories.
As part of our celebrations, children are invited to dress up as their favourite
character from a book. If you have the book showing the character you are
dressed up as, please also bring that to school with you (please ensure books
have names in).
Over the half term holiday, we are inviting children to create a
story in a box or jar to share during
our world book day celebrations.
This can be a mixture of
pictures, objects or words – be as
creative as you can. There will be
a prize for the winning box/jar in
each year group.
Newsletter
Further to the recent communication questionnaire, the majority of people
are happy to receive the newsletter electronically. If you prefer to still receive
a paper copy, please let us know either by calling into the office or emailing
[email protected]. If we do not hear from you, you will receive
an e-mailed copy.

Half-term
Have a lovely holiday and we look forward to welcoming
everyone back to school on Monday 4th March 2019.
Whole Class Guided Reading
Each class delivers these lessons for 1/2 hour, four times a week. We wanted to share these lessons with parents so
you’re invited to watch a lesson on 12th March from 9-9.45 am. If you have children in more than one class, you can
go from one to the other. Hopefully you can see the knowledge pupils are building through this approach.
