    Scotland is home to over 100 malt and graindistilleries, providing the greatest concentrationin the world.

    The malt whisky regions in Scotland, theHighlands, Lowlands, Speyside, Campbeltownand Islay all have their own unique characteristicswith the geography and climate of each regionin uencing the whisky produced there.

    Highland MaltGeographically the largest producing region,Highland whiskies are rounded, robust and dry incharacter with a hint o smokiness and peatiness.Those to the north are notably heathery and slightlyspicy in character; near to the sea they carry a saltytang; while in sheltered areas whiskies have a more

    ruity character.

    Lowland MaltLowland malts re ect the calm, lush countryside othe region and tend to be light, so t and mellow andgentle on the palate.

    Speyside MaltHome to hal o Scotlands Scotch Whisky distilleries,the whiskies rom this region are noted or theirelegance and complexity. In uenced by water

    owing over hills o granite and peat moors, theyhave a refned smokiness, gentleness and delicacyto their character.

    Campbeltown MaltLocated at the southern end o the Mull o Kintyre,Campbeltown whiskies are robust in character andcarry the salty tang o the sea.

    Islay MaltThe island is home to eight distilleries. Some Islaywhiskies are pungent and power ul with a distinctivewhi o sea air, whilst those in sheltered locationshave a gentler but still clearly identifable character.
