Allow me to introduce you to our brand new ROCS Travel Long Haul Journeys 2017 – 2018. A wonderful brochure offering the widest range of Long Haul Escorted Tours in Malta.

For the past 19 years ROCS Travel has locally been the leader in long haul holidays, and in-line with our strategic goals for the upcoming years we are proud to announce that we have teamed up with one of the most reliable Foreign Tour Operators, who themselves won several awards of being the best in Long Haul and together today we introduce you to the most beautiful range of long haul holidays in Malta.

Brimming with enthralling tours on every page, we present thirty two new tours which offer more than 500 departure dates in 2017 & 2018 making this brochure our biggest portfolio of long haul tours to date.

The brochure showcases escorted tours to new destinations ranging from Peru to Burma, Patagonia to Tibet, Botswana & The Victoria Falls to Nepal and Borneo’s Jungle. Many of these destinations have never been offered locally before. We then also offer the more requested tour destinations such as USA & Canada, The Rockies & Alaska Cruise, India, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, China, Brazil & Argentina to name a few. The choice in this brochure is amazing.

As with all our ROCS Journeys you will benefit from first-hand knowledge of local experienced guides as well as the security of every tour being personally inspected by us. To top this, the most interesting factor of all is that all these tours offer true value for money starting from only €1599 per person.

All escorted journeys published in this brochure come with one final price. There are no hidden charges, and include return long haul flights, all internal flights, all accommodation, all transfers, most meals - many of them offer full board basis in authentic local restaurants, all excursions as stated in each itinerary, professional English speaking guides, and all entry fees and airline passenger taxes too.

Single travellers will also be very pleasantly surprised to see something very new in Malta. Wherever possible, on most of the departures we offer a limited amount of rooms without a single supplement, therefore whether you are twin sharing or taking up a single room you will pay the same price. When such rooms are taken, only a small supplement will apply.

Take a moment to review this brochure which I am thrilled to share with you, I hope you take inspiration from the pages that follow and set you dreaming of your next exciting long haul journey with ROCS Travel.

So where will we be taking you?

Sacred Peru

Tour Pace:

Your included meal guide:B = Breakfast, L = Lunch, D = Dinner

Day 1: Malta to Lima. Depart Malta on your scheduled flight to Lima.

Day 2: Lima. On arrival in Lima, you will be met by your local representative and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure.

Day3: B Lima to Arequipa. Known as the ‘City of the Kings’, today’s tour combines the culture of historic downtown Lima with the modern district of Miraflores. You will first visit the main square to see the Cathedral, Government Palace and City Hall. Next see one of the best preserved monasteries in Lima, the beautiful Santo Domingo Convent and then on to Miraflores, a bustling shopping area with stupendous views of the Pacific Ocean. Transfer to the airport for your flight to Arequipa.

Day4: B Arequipa. With its large traditional square and colonial buildings, Peru’s second largest city, Arequipa, has a very Spanish feel. Known as the ‘Cuidad Blanca’ (White City) and set against the backdrop of the misty volcano, Arequipa offers some truly wonderful cultural and historic sites including the Church of the Society of Jesus, the frescoes of America’s Sistine Chapel at the San Ignacio Dome and the labyrinth Santa Catalina Convent. The tour ends with a relaxed walk around the local areas of Cayma and Yanahuara. The rest of the afternoon and evening are at leisure.

Day 5: BLD Arequipa & Colca Canyon. Today the tour moves on to the open plains of the Pampa Canaguas and Salinas where you will see llamas, alpacas, and guanacos roaming in the wild. The wetlands are teeming with different species of birdlife and Patapampa viewpoint offers stunning vistas of volcanoes. Later, you will arrive at Chivay, your base for the night where dinner is included.

Day 6: BLD Colca Canyon to Puno. An early start from Chivay sets you up for a spectacular scenic tour of the Colca Canyon with its terraced fields, hanging tombs and deep gorges, all culminating with a chance to see the majestic condors as they rise deep from within the canyon. You will then make your way back to the hotel and after lunch, commence your journey to Puno, arriving in the evening where dinner at your hotel is included.

Day 7: BL Puno. Today’s highlight is a trip to Lake Titicaca, the highest and largest navigable lake on earth. The views from Taquile Island that, on a clear day, can stretch to Bolivia are stunning and well worth the hour or so walk to the top from the port. Have a ‘coca tea’ break half way up before lunch is taken in a simple restaurant that overlooks the lake. Later you will walk back down to the port and board a boat for a brief visit to one of the floating reed islands to visit a local family home. Spend the night in Puno.

Day 8: BL Puno to Cusco. This morning you will travel from Puno to Cusco and be able to appreciate the surrounding valleys’ wonderful landscapes en route. The journey includes a stop at La Raya pass, 4,300 metres above sea level, from where you will be able to take in some amazing vistas of the Andean snow-capped mountains. You will also stop at the Raqchi ruins, known as the Temple of the God Wiracocha, and Andahuaylillas village where there is a beautiful church from the 17th century. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before arriving in Cusco and transferring to your hotel.

A visit to the regal Red Fort gives you a sense of the lavish life once led by the former rulers before stopping for lunch in a local restaurant. Your tour will continue on to New Delhi to see the Mahatma Gandhi memorial and the 12th century Qutab Minar. Your included meal guide:

B = Breakfast, L = Lunch, D = Dinner

Day 1: Malta to Colombo. Depart Malta on your scheduled, overnight flight to Colombo International Airport.

Day 2: D Colombo to Dambulla. On arrival you will be met by your local guide and transferred to Dambulla. The bustling town is renowned in Sri Lanka for its fast-pace and one of the island’s largest markets, it also serves as the perfect base from which to discover iconic cultural landmarks.

Day3: BLD Dambulla. Depart in the morning to explore the stunning Sigiriya Rock Fortress, a World Heritage Site dating back to the 5th century AD. Also known as the ‘Lion Rock’, it is a citadel of unusual beauty rising 200 metres from the jungle. Following lunch continue on to the ancient city of Polonnaruwa which was once a royal capital of the Sinhalese kingdom and is over 1000 years old. It was chosen as the capital as it was advantageously positioned to safeguard against possible attacks from the southeast, as well as supposedly having fewer mosquitoes! Here you can admire the ruins of the Royal Palace and wander round the Gal Vihare, famous for its splendid carved Buddha statues.

Day4: BLD Dambulla to Kandy. After breakfast visit the Dambulla Rock Temple, where the impressive caves contain over 2000sq metres of painted walls and ceilings which were once gilded by the ancient King to mark his place of worship. You will then travel to Kandy en route visiting a spice garden followed by lunch and check in at your hotel. Continue to the famous Temple of Tooth Relic in the afternoon — Sri Lanka’s most important Buddhist relic and one of the holiest shrines in the Buddhist world. After dinner relax whilst watching an eclectic cultural show, where performers will dazzle you with ornate costumes and traditional dances.

Day 5: BLD Kandy. Today you will travel to the beautiful botanical gardens in Peradeniya, boasting more than 4,000 species of trees, plants, orchids and creepers. Next a highlight of this tour is a trip to the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, established in 1975 to care for abandoned and wounded elephants. Witness these magnificent creatures in close quarters and see young elephants being fed, bathed and trained by the wildlife authorities. This evening enjoy a city tour of Kandy, including the bazaar and arts and crafts centre and a gem museum. Kandy was the last capital of the ancient kings and after defending themselves for over three centuries from the Dutch and Portuguese it finally fell to the hands of the British in 1815.

Day 6: BLD Kandy to Yala. Leave Kandy for Nuwara Eliya en route visiting a tea plantation/factory. On arrival in Nuwara Eliya participate in a short walking tour of the town. Your journey continues through Sri Lanka's striking scenery with lunch on the way to your Hotel near Yala.

B = Breakfast, L = Lunch, D = Dinner

Day 1: Malta to Colombo. Depart Malta on your scheduled, overnight flight to Colombo.

Day 2: D Colombo. On arrival you will be transferred to your hotel in Colombo for a welcome dinner.

Day3: BLD Colombo. Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka, is a bustling, cosmopolitan city whose colonial history is still very much evident along wide, shaded boulevards and among its Victorian churches and tumbledown cafes. An introductory half-day city tour visits the vibrant temples and bazaars of Pettah, selling seemingly everything from traditional jewellery to Ayurvedic medicines. A trip to the Old Dutch hospital is a highlight of the newly restored Fort complex, home to some of Colombo’s chicest restaurants, cafes and shops. After lunch rest of day at leisure.

Day4: BLD Colombo to Anuradhapura. Today you will leave the capital and head north to the ancient city of Anuradhapura, the spiritual heart of the Cultural Triangle. On route, visit the somnolent village of Mihintale and its nearby sacred mountain peak and temple complex. Ancient monastic dwellings and meditations spots are connected by beautiful old stone steps amongst rocky hills.

Day 5: BLD Anuradhapura to Nilaveli. Recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Anuradhapura’s city ruins are one of South Asia’s most evocative sites and contain a rich collection of crumbling temples, vast monasteries and elaborate palaces. Learn the fascinating history of the first ancient Sinhalese capital and marvel at the sacred Bodhi tree, the oldest authenticated tree in the world, tended by its dutiful guardians for over 2000 years. Lunch at a local restaurant before travelling east on to the beautiful beaches of Nilaveli.

Day 6: BLD Nilaveli. Today has been left at leisure. With its powder-white sands and emerald-blue waters, Nilaveli is the perfect place to relax and enjoy Sri Lanka’s laid-back, less-visited East coast.

Day 7: BLD Nilaveli to Dambulla. This morning, journey to Sri Lanka’s second ancient city, via the coastal town of Trincomalee. Polonnaruwa became the seat of the Sinhalese kings and Sri Lanka’s second ancient capital after the demise of Anuradhapura. Scattered over gently undulating woodland, explore the monumental ruins of the ancient garden-city built by the megalomaniac Sinhalese king, Parakramabahu I, in the twelfth century. Afterwards, continue on to Dambulla where you will spend the next two nights.

Day 8: BD Dambulla & Sigiriya. Undoubtedly a highlight of the tour is today’s excursion to the awe-inspiring Sigiriya rock fortress. The ancient city of Sigiriya is a World Heritage Site and the city ruins lie on the slopes and summit of the imposing granite peak, towering above the jungle below. Climb up steps carved into the rock face to see the fortified palace and brilliant frescoes or enjoy the spectacular views of ancient citadel and jungle from the lily-pad-covered moats that surround the rock. Return to your hotel for lunch and to enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 9: BLD Dambulla to Kandy. After breakfast visit the Dambulla Rock Temple, where the impressive caves contain over 2000 square metres of painted walls and ceilings which were once gilded by the ancient King to mark his place of worship. After some time to explore here, a stop will be made at a typical Sri Lankan spice garden to observe how a variety of spices are grown. You will arrive into Kandy this afternoon and head to the famous Temple of the Sacred Tooth. The golden-roofed temple houses Sri Lanka’s most important Buddhist relic — a tooth of Buddha; you will arrive in time for ‘pooja’ when the heavily guarded room housing the relic is open to both pilgrims and travellers alike.
