24 years after John Lennon's murder, mounting evidence indicates

accused killer Chapman is innocent. False confessions are puzzling, butnot uncommon.

The location in which Mark David Chapman stood when John Lennon was shot andkilled on Dec. 8, 1980 is a central part of my argument that Chapman is completelyinnocent. Growing evidence indicates Chapman could not have shot Lennon becauseall four entry wounds were on the wrong side of Lennon's body (the left side),according to the autopsy report and the death certificate. ( See attachment .) Inaddition, it has been learned that doorman Jose Perdomo may have been a professional

hit man, and likely the true killer. ( See article. ) The following photographsdemonstrate that Chapman was most likely standing behind Lennon, to his right, whichis on the opposite of where Lennon's wounds were located. The real shooter wouldlikely have stood behind Lennon and too his left , which is where doorman JosePerdomo's guard booth was (is) located.

shots were fired on Dec. 8, 1980.

(5) John signs autograph for Chapman on Dec. 8, 1980as he and Yoko leave the Dakota, several hours beforethe shooting. This photograph was taken at the entranceof the Dakota. Notice Chapman is standing to the r ight,

Lennon to the left. Virtually all accounts indicate thatChapman was at the same location when Lennonreturned later.

(7) At first I had suspected that a second shooter mayhave fired from the doorway across from the lobby, which leads to a service elevator. Firing from thislocation would easily create entry wounds to the leftside of Lennon's body. In the photo below, the doorwayto the service elevator is to the left of the lady walkingthe dog. ( See attachment for a description of woundsper death certificate and autopsy report.) I have sinceconcluded, however, that doorman Jose Perdomo waslikely the actual killer. ( See article. ) Nevertheless, it ispossible that support people may have exited the crimescene by way of the doorway below. The stateddoorway also leads to a side exit. Across the alley fromthe side exist is a parking garage. (See photos of

(6) A diagram published in the New York Times on Dec. 10, 1980 shows Chapmanstanding behind Lennon, to his right. Theaccompanying caption reads as follows: …Mr. Lennon and Yoko Ono left their car (1), while the assailant (2) waited inside thearch. As they walked by (3), he fired. Mr.

Lennon staggered up into a room (4) where

he fell, fatally wounded.

Dakota's side exit in an alley directly across from aparking garage .)

(8) Mark David Chapman confessed to murderingLennon, although mounting crime scene evidenceindicates he gave a false confession.

Additional information. At the time of the shooting, it was widelyreported that Chapman called to Lennon, towhich Lennon responded by turning towardsChapman. At that point Chapman reportedlybegan shooting. Chapman, however, deniescalling to Lennon, but he admits shootinghim. If Lennon did not turn, this increasesthe likelihood that someone else shot himfrom the doorway leading to the serviceelevator. Crime scene witness accounts varyon the issue of whether Chapman called toLennon or not, but compelling evidence hasnever been brought forth to indicate thatChapman called to Lennon causing him toturn. ( See attachment for additionalinformation about crime scene witnesses andother crime scene evidence.)

False confessions are a commonphenomenon which occur for a variety of reasons. Consequently, Mark DavidChapman's confession must be viewedwithin that context since forensic evidence

indicates he is innocent. Because Chapmanconfessed, he was not given a trial. Insteadhe was given a sentencing hearing where the

judge gave him twenty years to life at AtticaState Prison in New York. In 1966 theUnited States Supreme Court determined, inMiranda vs. Arizona, that police officersmust recite Constitutional rights to anyonearrested for a criminal offense. This wasdone because the high court feared policecoercion of suspects. The most notoriouscase of false confessions in modern times isthe Central Park Jogger. In 1989 a womanwas raped and severely beaten while joggingin Central Park. Five teenage boys, rangingfrom 14 to 16 years old, confessed to thecrime and were subsequently imprisoned. In2002 it was discovered that the true rapist

was an older man, Matias Reyes, whoseDNA matched that which was taken fromthe crime scene. It appears that Chapman isbeing treated in a similar manner as theconvicted teenagers in the Central Park Jogger case. END
