Inspection & Test

In order to meet the rigorous safety and quality standards that apply to the Aerospace & Defence industry, Ferranti Technologies also has an impressive array of inspection & test equipment available in it’s facility in Oldham for both proprietary and 3rd party product testing where applicable.

Through-out the manufacturing process, products undergo an extensive range of tests and inspections, from PCB board test & inspection to functional LRU test.

Based in Oldham, Lancashire, Ferranti Technologies’ 16,000m2 facility is more than equipped to meet the demands of our customers.

Environmental Test

Ferranti Technologies has a UKAS Accredited Environmental Test facility (testing 0499) which is wholly focused on testing the operational safety of electronic products within safety critical and arduous environments.

The UKAS accreditation has been held (originally as Ferranti International) since 1986 and the following tests can be performed:

• Vibration• Acceleration• Temperature• Humidity• Low Pressure• Salt Fog• HALT/HASS Temperature & Multi Axis Vibration* (*Not UKAS accredited)

Test Experience

In addition to our extensive equipment, the lab technicians here at Ferranti Technologies, have had many years of experience in performing environmental tests and are fully conversant with the majority of commonly used standards.

Introduction

Over the 40 years that Ferranti Technologies has supplied the Aerospace & Defence markets, the company and its employees have learnt & developed tried and tested ways of maintain-ing a high level of customer satisfaction through stringent process & quality control.

As an SC21 Bronze Award winner, the company is most proud of its achievements in managing on time delivery and quality but recognises that it is only achieveable through the continuous investment in training for our people.

In order that the business continues to succeed, Ferranti Technologies is committed to a programme of NVQ’s, Apprenticeships and IPC training led by our own internal training specialist.

IPC 610/620 - Class 3 Certification

With our own on-site, dedicated & certified trainer, we are able to offer Interchangeable Packageable Electronic Circuits training (level D-E) to all of our shop floor personnel.

NVQ Training Programme

In addition to the IPC training, Ferranti Technologies has offered all employees on our manufacturing floor an NVQ in Business Improvement Techniques.

The aim of this is to cover areas such as quality, cost, delivery and waste reduction and will enable employees to implement tools and techniques they have learnt that will make a big impact on the productivity of the business.

SC21 and Policy Deployment

Ferranti Technologies joined the SC21 programme in 2009, in a bid to adopt best practice for supply chain management.

We achieved Bronze Award in 2010 and again the following year, demonstrating a consistently high level of performance in on time delivery and quality.

In order to manage the SC21 process and understand the business fully, Ferranti Technologies has adopted a Policy Deployment Matrix (PDM) approach to measuring against the business strategy as a whole.

The PDM allows the team to measure it’s performance against the businesses strategic goals, annual objectives and improvement targets. It also enables employees involved to take ownership of tasks, aids resource/activity planning and defines overall Continuous Sustainable Improvement Plans.

In response to customer demand, Ferranti Technologies is also able to offer a Low Cost Manufacturing solution to compliment the UK operation in Oldham.

Maintaining our quality ethic, our PCBA Low Cost manufacturer is accredited to BS EN ISO 9001 and AS9100 revision C.

Conveniently located, with just a 3 hour flight from the UK, use of the facility enables all the benefits of low cost manufacturing, without the need for long haul flights.

Inventory Control

The storage and traceability of all our components is paramount in meeting the needs of our customers.

To facilitate this, Ferranti Technologies has invested in a number of Carousel Storage units for storing high volume electronic components, providing an efficient and secure method of stock control.

In addition, Ferranti Technologies has introduced a Bar Coding system as an integral part of the stock control process. This investment has not only improved efficiency and traceability but has also resulted in stores accuracy of greater than 99% by component count.

The aim of our Procurement Team here at Ferranti Technologies, is to build lasting and long term relationships with an optimum number of suppliers, based upon a total cost approach in line with the overall company strategy.

Post Design Services

Post design services (PDS) are carried out in accordance with Def Stan 05-123 and Def Stan 05-125. PDS activities are offered on an annual or multi-year contract basis and on a task by task basis.

Integrated Logistic Support

Level of Repair Analysis (LORA), Maintenance Task Analysis and Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) can be provided when required.

Obsolescence Management

Ferranti Technologies are able to offer assistance with obsolescence management in accordance with BS EN 62402:2007. Using a reputable, up-to-date web based tool that provides EOL and PCN notifications enabling us to monitor products throughout service life and mitigate the effects of obsolescence by recommending alternatives

Product Test & Commissioning

With our comprehensive Test Laboratory, Ferranti Technologies is able to carry out a wide range of functional, in-circuit and environmental tests, both on site and at customer sites if required.

Documentation Support

A technical publication service encompasses the preparation of repair, overhaul and maintenance manuals, test specifications and illustrated parts catalogues.

An experienced drawing office team ensures rigorous configuration control and safe custody of all documentation, whether customer supplied or FTL generated.
