MEMBER CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPERIENCE RESULTS ARE IN! During the period 16 October – 31 October 2017, 246 members were surveyed online about their customer service experience here at the Hoppers Club. When being surveyed members were given the opportunity to respond to what they think about the overall customer service experience here at the club and also how they felt about their experience at every individual touch point in and around the venue e.g. bars, bistro, TAB, Gaming Room. The metric that allows a members customer experience to be measured is titled Net Promoter Score (NPS). NPS provides a one number score that allows a members satisfaction to be measured based on their likelihood to recommend the Club to the family and/or friends. NPS breaks down the responses into three groups: Promoters (score of 9 -10) = Loyal and enthusiastic members who will keep engaging and recommending the Club. Passives (score of 7-8) = Satisfied members but unenthusiastic. Detractors (score of 0-6) = Unhappy members who can impede the growth of the Club through negative word of mouth comments. The overall results were very pleasing and to quote the Survey Team – “Overall NPS is strong, and above average seen for the venues

measured”. When broken down, the Clubs NPS performance was as follows: - Promoters = 47% - Passive = 36% - Detractors = 17% The survey identified the following key focus areas that will assist the Club to provide an even stronger member customer service experience: - Increase the level of staff Customer Service Training to ensure, amongst other things, members feel valued. - Improve the menu quality and atmosphere in the Bistro. - Create a more effective loyalty program across the venue – ensuring the program is simple, personalised and provides value. - Review the nature, relevance and value of promotions on offer and boost their profile. Thank you to all members who participated in the NPS survey and for providing your honest appraisal of the Clubs standard of service to members. Michael Lewis Chief Executive Officer.

2.5L (10 cups) Chicken liquid stock 40g butter 125ml (1/2 cup) olive oil 2 brown onions, finely chopped 880g (4 cups) arborio rice 1 1/2 tablespoons fresh thyme leaves 125ml (1/2 cup) dry white wine 6 (about 500g) chicken thigh fillets, cut into 1cm pieces 200g button mushrooms, cut into 1cm pieces 4 garlic cloves, crushed 120g (1 1/2 cups) finely grated parmesan Salt and pepper, to season

Sid’s CORNER

Step 1 : Bring the stock just to the boil in a large saucepan. Reduce heat and hold at a gentle simmer. Step 2 : Heat butter and 2 tablespoons of oil in a heavy-based stockpot or large flameproof casserole dish over medium heat. Add the onion. Cook, stirring, for 5 minutes or until soft and translucent but not coloured. Add the rice and 1 tablespoon of thyme. Cook, stirring, for 1 minute or until the grains appear slightly glassy. Step 3 : Add the wine to the rice mixture and cook, stirring, until the liquid is absorbed. Add a 1/2 cup of the simmering stock to the rice and stir constantly with a wooden spoon until the liquid is absorbed. Continue adding the stock mixture, a ladleful at a time, stirring constantly and allowing the liquid to be absorbed before adding the next ladleful, for 20-30 minutes or until the rice is tender yet firm to the bite and the risotto is creamy. Step 4 : Heat remaining oil in a large frying pan over high heat. Add the chicken and stir-fry for 5 minutes or until chicken just starts to brown. Add the mushroom and garlic. Cook for 2 minutes. Add the chicken mixture, parmesan and remaining thyme to the risotto and combine. Season with salt and pepper to serve.

WHERE ’S THE ROMANCE BREAKING IN THE HABIT

18 HC NEWSLETTER | www.hoppersclub.com.au

Last month, my grandparents celebrated their 72nd Wedding Anniversary. That’s 72 Years ! Wow. I remember thinking, ‘how can two people spend that long together and not grow tired of one another?’ So I asked them. My grandfather told me, that if anything, over the years, they’ve fallen more in love. He said that there really isn’t one formula to suit all couples but that it was his belief there are definitely certain things you can do to improve your chances of success. As my grandmother nodded in agreeance, my grandfather made a strong statement, ‘it’s all about breaking in the habit’

So what does this mean exactly? ‘Breaking in the habit’. ‘It’s about learning to be together despite who you’ve been with before and your idea of how it should be with this person now’, according to my grandfather. We all have these grand ideas of how a relationship can work, should work and isn’t working, this is overthinking, and you forget to spend time on your habits that are working. Some of these insights may help.

Happiness is not the most important thing. We all want to be happy, but happiness will come and go. Successful couples learn to intentionally do things that will ‘bring happiness back’ when life pulls it away. Just show up. When things get tough, and couples don’t know what to do, they need to hang in there for themselves and their spouse. Spend time together, working it out together rather than time apart stewing over little problems. Count 10 Seconds. We’ve all heard it before. Count ten seconds before you say something you’ll regret. It really is true. If you count ten seconds, the words you were going to say have time to play back in your mind. And chances are, you’ll re-phrase to get your point across a little more nicely.

Fight the battle between your ears. Successful couples have learnt to resist holding grudges and bringing up the past. They remember that they married an imperfect person—and so did their spouse. A crisis isn’t the end. Crises are like storms: loud, scary and dangerous. But to get through a storm you have to keep driving or batten down the hatches. A crisis can be a new beginning. If nothing ever went wrong, we wouldn’t know how to fix it. Relationships really are all about understanding the other person, about what makes him or her tick. And then focusing on your approach (or habit) towards each situation. This might be as little as making it a habit to tell her you love her each day. Or as big as learning to weather a storm. Regardless, there are people out there, like my grandparents, who’ve proved that they have a winning formula, for them. And that’s awe inspiring for me.
