GWHS at “Rumors of War” Mrs. Weinstein

Kehinde Wiley in Richmond, VA

Kehinde Wiley , the 42 year old most famous for his portrait of

Barack Obama, visited Richmond, VA December 10, 2019 for

the unveiling of Rumors of War, a piece made as a reaction

to the Confederate monuments on Monument Avenue.

Along with Governor Ralph Northam and Mayor Levar Stoney

was Richmond City’s All City Band, including Tyrone Baker,

pictured below right .

The Band Kept Playing

Tyrone reported that as the All City Band began playing mu-

sic, the museum workers began lifting the cloth off of the 27 x

16 foot sculpture but the cloth got stuck on the head of the

statue. The Richmond All City Band, came to the rescue, un-

der the guidance of Band Director Mr. Boyd, and they kept

playing for the extra hour that it took to rectify the situation.

Finally, the statue was unveiled, and the band continued to

play and march, as the sun set behind them.

Art Super Stars

AP Art Studio clas-

ses are tough!

In AP Art, students

are no longer made

to do projects led by

the teacher, where

they all come out

with a similar piece.

Instead students

have a 15 piece port-

folio based on their

own sustained inves-

tigation, where they

explore a topic of

their choosing

through art.

In addition to a 15

piece digital portfolio,

students have to

write about their work

and submit 5 physi-

cal pieces, that are

sent away to the Col-

lege Board to com-

pete globally with

other students.

Students who receive

a score of 3 or

above, receive col-

lege credit from

many colleges

around the country.

Glam Squad

by Jaliyah Jordan Starting a business at a young age is very bold and confident. Speaking of starting businesses and confidence, there is a very intelligent , beautiful young lady named Acette Jones who decided to start a business on her own called, The Glam Collection. The Glam Collection is a business that helps young ladies to build their confidence and self esteem. The collection includes products such as body butters , sugar scrubs and bath bombs. “ One day I was just sitting and thinking about how high beauty products are , and thought to myself, that I should start my own beauty busi-

ness”, Acette Jones reports. She also stated that she has sen-sitive skin and so do many others, so she began mixing her shea butter formulas with different in-credible ingredi-ents to help soothe dry skin. That is her main item for right now , but there are more to come. Good skin & confidence are two awesome things that should you have in this lifetime.
