February is the month for lov-ers. Many clubs have special Valentine events. So get your best guy or gal and go dancing.
Now some of us love dancing. And some of us love baseball. For the latter group, pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training on February 14. I think it’s fitting for the baseball lovers out there.
February is also a great month in Texas for those of us who love Spring. It’s just around the corner. Those Blue-bonnets will be popping up toward the end of the month.
And then there are the lovers of Rodeo. Yep, Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo begins this month. Be on the lookout for the trailriders as they head into Houston for the rodeo parade on February 24
No matter what you love, get out and enjoy it.

Bluebonnet Squares – Join the Bluebonnet Squares in February. We have 2 national callers joining us. Come dance to Jay Henderson (A new caller for the Bluebonnet Squares from California.), Feb 12 and Tony Oxendine re-turns Feb. 19. Our club caller, Tim Ploch joins us Feb. 26. All Square Dancers are always welcome to join the Bluebonnet Squares on Mondays at the Spring Wood Methodist Church, 1711 Cypress Creek Parkway, Houston, TX 77090 (FM 1960 West across from Denny’s) from 7:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. for Mainstream and Plus Dancing. A message from Kelly Stinson
Dear Square Dance Friends,
Many of you know that last October I suffered a severe leg injury with subsequent complications. I am mostly recovered now, though still using a cane. I am not yet ready
to dance again, but am looking forward to being able to soon. Some of you also know that David has been in persistent atrial fibrillation since March of this year. He has been on a carefully monitored medication regimen and had his second cardioversion (shock) in mid-November, and his heart is finally in rhythm. On top of that, we finally moved to Okla-homa at the end of November.
We have loved being part of the HSRDC family, and have been honored to dance and serve among you. Because of my chemical sensitivities I was unable to go back to Alvin after the Senior Center was remodeled. I was able to go for a while on Friday, November 24th, and David and I got to visit while Nathaniel and Natalie danced there for the last time. Our family was also at Hanger on Saturday, November 25th to say goodbye. I cannot tell you how grateful we are to the square dance community in the Houston area. Our children have grown up with you, you have been such an important part of our lives, and we will carry you in our hearts wherever we go. We will miss our many friends here, and we wish you happy dancing always.

We started off the year with the 1st Quarter Council meeting and a visit to Winnie for the TSFSRD Nominating Meeting. Our own Carolyn and Preston Smith were nominated for the 2018-19 Presidents. Cindy Markos and Linda Reaves represented HSRDC at the Hanger Squares Anniversary Dance since we were delegates at the TSFSRD Nominating Meeting that same weekend. We finishedup the month at the Mustang Stampede in Edna.
February finds us visiting Victoria for the South Texas February Frenzy. Our travels in the Houston area take us to the El Campo Cotton Tromp. We will be picking cotton there.
March will find us at the HSRDC Presidents Ball on March 24th. Look for further details in this issue.
