The Certificate II in Salon Assistant SHB20216 utilises an ideal blend of classroom and practical content to develop your skills to work as an assistant in a hairdressing salon.

Successful completion of the course can provide a pathway to obtaining an apprenticeship in hairdressing and this course can be undertaken while still at high school.

Duration: 50 - 60 days of study (theory and practical)

Intakes: 4 times per year

Campus: Brisbane and Gold Coast

Fast-track your hairdressing career and start working in a salon in a year when you undertake the five-day study pattern, or complete the course in 20 months should you elect to study via the three-day study pattern.

The Certificate III in Hairdressing SHB30416 is the nationally recognised qualification for those wishing to enter a hairdressing industry.

Duration: 3 or 5 days per week

Some hairdressers wish to specialise in certain areas of the industry and Certificate IV in Hairdressing SSHB40216 is designed to take your career qualifications to the next level.

Learn how to run your own salon, spa or clinic. This course will provide you with the skills and knowledge in regards to the development, supervision and leadership of teams.

Through the course you will also learn how to plan and implement quality customer service and the financial and legal aspects of a business. The course includes units on recruitment, leadership, marketing and human resources.

Duration: 3 days per week

Intakes: Every 12 weeks

Campus: Brisbane only

In this 16 week industry designed course you will learn the skills required to enter the barbering profession with units delivered from the Certificate III in Barbering SHB30516.

The Certificate II in Retail Cosmetics SHB20116 is for people aspiring to work in the retail make-up and skincare industry.

The course develops job-specific skills that enable the successful graduate to recommend and demonstrate make-up and skincare products and incorporates training in customer service, financial transactions and other retail customer service skills.

Duration: 3 days per week

The Certificate III in Nail Technology SHB30315 provides you with the skills and confidence to provide a variety of nail services in a nail salon and retail environment.

The course includes competency units in interacting with customers, providing manicure and pedicare services, applying acrylic or gel nail enhancement, applying nail art and nail enhancement services.

The Certificate III in Make-up SHB30215 is designed for people wishing to become make-up artists. This Certificate III in Beauty Services SHB30115 will provide you with the skills and confidence to enter the beauty industry and provide a range of beauty services which includes make-up application, waxing, nails, lash and brow treatments, retailing skin care and cosmetic products.

A combination of theory and practical exposure means you will graduate with the skills needed to work within this growing and popular industry.

Upon successful completion the Certificate IV SHB40115 in Beauty Therapy, you will have the skills necessary to provide your customers with a wide range of professional beauty treatments and services.

The Diploma of Beauty SHB50115 is the highest level beauty qualification available in Australia.

Students develop enhanced skills in makeup application, aromatherapy and reflexology, nail treatments and advanced facial treatments. All students start honing their skills in our on campus salons and beauty clinic, as a result our students get to work in a real world, fast paced environment under the guidance of our educators.

National Qualifications

AAHB is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO #32488), CRICOS registered (No. 03319G) and a member of Australian Council for Private Education and Training (ACPET). All courses delivered by AAHB stem from the Hairdressing and Beauty Services Training Package.

Up-skill Opportunities

Brisbane School of Hairdressing (BSH), Gold Coast School of Hairdressing and Brisbane School of Barbering has been educating hairdressers since 1969 and in 1997 BSH became the first private hairdressing college in Queensland to train apprentices.

There are Many Benefits to Selecting BSH as your Registered Training Organisation (RTO).

• This, together with the use of the latest resources, will assist you to become the best stylist you can be.

BSH is a Pre-qualified Supplier of the Department of Education and Training delivering quality training under the User Choice Program. This funding provided by DET will assist you to gain your hairdressing or barber qualification.

Only Australian and New Zealand citizens who have entered Australia on a valid passport have unrestricted rights to apprenticeships in Australia. Apprentices are required to pay a student contribution fee towards their training & resources. Concession fees apply for eligible apprentices.

On campus trained apprentices typically attend one day per week or one day per fortnight for part time apprentices

In-salon training is a choice that is popular to employers who offer extensive training/ guidance in their salon. Our educators visit salons every four to five weeks. This mode relies on the apprentice being motivated to complete theory while having regular training from qualified senior stylists within their salon. Bi-annual block visits to school are required for practical training

Block release of four to five weeks annually is available but is mainly utilised for regional apprentices & locals requiring extra training for various reasons

School based apprenticeships are offered a flexible attendance pattern
