We have been able to so this as part of an interest free loan scheme. At the same time the Key stage 1 playground is being re-tarmacked as the first stage in its redevelopment. The new equipment and markings will be put in over the summer. Our thanks to all of you who have helped to fund this important work through the PTA. We are also getting going with our prayer garden which we hope will be ready to be opened and blessed by the Bishop when he comes to celebrate our 50 th Birthday on June 27 th . I hope that you will also see the great work of our incredibly enthusiastic gardeners who have been busy designing and now planting our Beach garden entry into the schools’ competition for Guildford in Bloom. Weekly News for the week beginning Monday 5th June 2017

What a beautiful week of weather! Here’s hoping it lasts through the Half term break! There is a

fair bit of work going on in school next week whilst we are away. We are having LED lighting fitted

throughout the school as part of a Government sponsored scheme to make schools and other public

buildings as energy efficient as possible. We have been able to so this as part of an interest free loan

scheme. At the same time the Key stage 1 playground is being re-tarmacked as the first stage in its

redevelopment. The new equipment and markings will be put in over the summer. Our thanks to all

of you who have helped to fund this important work through the PTA. We are also getting going

with our prayer garden which we hope will be ready to be opened and blessed by the Bishop when he

comes to celebrate our 50th Birthday on June 27th. I hope that you will also see the great work of

our incredibly enthusiastic gardeners who have been busy designing and now planting our Beach garden

entry into the schools’ competition for Guildford in Bloom. My thanks to the Wong family and their

great generosity in helping provide the plants for our work. So, the summer has arrived and life at

school is as busy as ever and that is just how it should be! Fun, challenge and achievement, everyone

striving to make S=P+A+C+E for their learning. Have a wonderful half term week whatever you are

doing. Neil Lewin

THE GOLDEN BOOT The Golden Boot challenge starts after the half term holiday and runs from 5th June to 30th June. Every

day during the challenge children will be logging how they travel to school into the following

categories:

Walking Park and stride Scooting Car share Cycling Car School bus, Taxi, Train Other

The greener the method of transport the higher the Green Score. If you drive to school why not consider the Park and Stride option once or twice a week? Can we win back the Golden Boot this year?

The cost of school dinners for the final half term this year is £72.60

Payment can be made online via Scopay (www.scopay.com) or at the school office by cash or cheque payable to Surrey County Council. This is a debt owed to Surrey County Council and should be paid in advance.

If your child serves at Mass at your Church then they are welcome to join Fr Alan for a practice for the

50th Anniversary Mass being celebrated by Bishop Richard on Tuesday 27th June. The practice will be

after school on Tuesday 20th June. If you would like your child to come please e mail:

[email protected].

The children will meet in the Junior Hall at the end of the school day and can be picked up at 4:15

from outside the doors by After School Club. We hope as many altar servers as possible can make it.

A St Thomas’ Learner makes

S=P+A+C+E for their learning

We believe that St Thomas’ Learners can achieve Success through

Perseverance together with a really positive Attitude, confidence and,

of course, effort.

NEVER GIVES UP

S=P+A+C+E in action…

The Times Tables Challenge is here…

Hopefully your child came home (Year 2 and above) with a Times

Table Challenge this afternoon. The expectations for the children in

knowing their tables inside and out is a high one – all the tables to 12x

by the end of Year 4. We know the importance of having these facts at

our fingertips – it makes so many elements of maths so much easier –

and so we are introducing the half term Challenge. Each Friday there will

be challenges in class to see how well we are getting on, with awards for

progress across the School. I hope that you find the little Challenge

booklets useful and please encourage your children by learning with

them and making it as much fun as possible!

B for Busenya Readathon

I hope everyone is able to enjoy a book or two over half term, reading

and raising sponsorship for the children of Busenya Catholic Primary

School! Maybe over half term you could write a review of your favourite

book that we could publish in the Newsletter to encourage others to

share the fun!
