Operation Post-op hospital stay Home recovery period 6-12 weeks

OPPORTUNITY FOR VENAPRO

• Pharmaceuticals (e.g. anti-coagulants)• Mechanical Compression• Anti-embolism stockings (VenaPure™)• Intermittent Pneumatic Pumps (VenaFlow™ Elite)

• Pharmaceuticals - variable duration• Anti-embolism stockings - not always available

VTE exists!• Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is potentially fatal– an estimated 10-30% of all patients die within 30 days – mostly

from PE1. The remaining patients may develop post-thrombotic syndrome and chronic venous insufficiency – life long

conditions2.

• The risk of VTE may extend up to 3 months after surgery3, highlighted by a recent study: 2.27% for primary hip arthroplasty

and 1.79% for total knee arthroplasty4.

Preventing VTE through the care continuum• Guidelines recommend extended thromboprophylaxis up to 35 days5

• ACCP (American College of Chest Physicians)

state that if IPC is to be used, it should be

“portable, battery powered and preferably

capable of measuring compliance”5. Patients

need an external compression therapy system

that will allow them to be mobile yet still

providing rhythmic compression resulting in

good peak venous flows6.
