NEWS ABOUT IRAN

INFORMATION FOR BUSINESS SECTION JUNE, 2013

Mr. Franc Lenhart is biggest connoisseur for Iran in Europe and he is trying to present the Iran in truthful picture, that is why he is preparing every month a set of news for business sectors, private and other population. I hope employability will meet your address.

When is Ramadan in IRAN 2013?

Ramadan in 2013 will start on Tuesday, the 9th of July and will continue for 30 days until Wednesday, the 7th of August.

Iranian regime announce evry year exact start of Ramadan, but is not big difference to this date.

Based on sightability in North America, in 2013 Ramadan will start in North America a day later - on Wednesday, the 10th of July.

Note that in the Muslim calander, a holiday begins on the sunset of the previous day, so observing Muslims will celebrate Ramadan on the sunset of Monday, the 8th of July.

Although Ramadan is always on the same day of the Islamic calendar, the date on the Gregorian calendar varies from year to year, since the Gregorian calendar is a solar calendar and the Islamic calendar is a lunar calendar. This difference means Ramadan moves in the Gregorian calendar approximately 11 days every year. The date of Ramadan may also vary from country to country depending on whether the moon has been sighted or not.

The dates provided here are based on the dates adopted by the Fiqh Council of North America for the celebration of Ramadan. Note that these dates are based on astronomical

NOTE : It is just my suggestion that during Ramadan time is not the best time to visit

Iran, specially in business or tourist issue. The working time is adapted to this time and

start very early morning and finished before lunch. Majority of restaurants use this time

for renovation of the building etc.

The Islamic calendar is a lunar calendar, and months begin when the first crescent of a new moon is sighted.

Since the Islamic lunar calendar year is 11 to 12 days shorter than the solar year and contains no intercalation,

Ramadan migrates throughout the seasons. The Islamic day starts after sunset. The actual and estimated start

and end dates for Ramadan in 2007–2017 were and are as follows:[2]

Page 3 / 15

Many Muslims insist on the local physical sighting of the moon to mark the beginning of Ramadan, but others

use the calculated time of the new moon or the Saudi Arabian declaration to determine the start of the month.

Since the new moon is not in the same state at the same time globally, the beginning and ending dates of

Ramadan depend on what lunar sightings are received in each respective location. As a result, Ramadan dates

vary in different countries, but usually only by a day. This is due to the cycle of the moon. The moon travels

the same path all year round and when the moon is seen in the east, it is then seen traveling towards the west.

All the countries around the world see the moon within a 24 hour period once spotted by one country in the

east.

Each year, Ramadan begins about eleven days earlier than in the previous year.[3]

Astronomical projections

that approximate the start of Ramadan are available.[4]

It takes about 33 years and five days for Ramadan to

complete a twelve month move across the yearly calendar. As Ramadan 28 March 1990 to Ramadan 22

Fearing Price Increases, Iranians Hoard Goods

By THOMAS ERDBRINK and RICK GLADSTONE

Published: April 23, 2013

TEHRAN — Iranians rushed to supermarkets to buy cooking oil, red meat and other staples on Tuesday,

stockpiling the goods over new fears of price spikes from a change in the official exchange rate that could

severely reduce the already weakened purchasing power of the rial, the national currency.

The change, less than two months before critical national elections, appeared to cause widespread concern

even among Iranians accustomed to chronically high inflation and other problems — a result, economists here

say, of a combination of severe Western sanctions and what many call the government’s economic

mismanagement.

Prices of staples long deemed essential are set to increase by as much as 60 percent because of the currency

change, which nearly doubles the mandatory exchange rate for importers of goods like medicine, chicken and

sugar, but also machinery spare parts and some chemicals.

Under Iran’s complicated system of multiple exchange rates, the importers had been paying a rate of 12,260

rials to the dollar, but will now have to pay 24,500 rials to the dollar. The new exchange rate is much closer to

the rial’s actual market value, which currency traders estimate to be 35,500 rials to the dollar.

Iran, world’s 28th largest exporter in 2012: WTO – TEHRAN

TIME

TEHRAN - Iran was the 28th largest exporter in the world in 2012 despite economic sanctions against the

country, according to a new report by the World Trade Organization (WTO).

The value of Iran’s exports was $96 billion in 2012, IRNA cited the WTO report on Saturday.

The total global exports stood at $18.3 trillion in 2012, showing just 0.2 percent rise compared to 2011.

Chin was the leading country with exporting $2.049 trillion worth of goods, accounting for 11.2 percent of the

world’s total exports.

The U.S. and Germany ranked second and third, with exporting $1.547 trillion and $1.407 trillion worth of

products, respectively.

Iran had ranked the 23rd largest exporter in the world in 2011.

Iran’s exports had increased more than 30 percent in 2011, compared to 2010, despite the economic bans

imposed by the U.S. and its allies against the Islamic Republic, the last year’s WTO report stated.

At the beginning of 2012, the United States and the European Union imposed new sanctions on Iran’s oil and

financial sectors.

The U.S.-engineered sanctions were imposed based on the accusation that Iran is pursuing non-civilian

objectives in its nuclear energy program. Iran rejects the allegation, saying that as a committed signatory to

Non-Proliferation Treaty and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency, it has the right to use

nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.

Next year’s budget predicts 40% drop in oil revenues; sets price of oil at $95 per barrel

Wednesday, 29 May 2013

The Iranian Majlis approved a $593 billion national budget for the current Iranian calendar year (March 20

2013 – March 21 2014). 170 Majlis members voted in favor of the bill, 8 voted against, and 7 abstained. The

Majlis usually approves the national budget bill before the Iranian New Year, but this year, the vote was

delayed. On February 27, Ahmadinejad’s government submitted a draft budget to the Majlis. The national

budget increased by 22% in comparison with the previous year. The new national budget predicts a 40% drop

in oil revenues in comparison with the previous year’s projected figure. Funding for running the government

increased by 15.2% to about $135 billion. The bill sets the price of oil at $95 per barrel, based on the official

exchange rate of 12,260 Rials per U.S. dollar that was fixed by the Central Bank of Iran (CBI).

** The distance to frontier (DTF) measure shows the distance of each economy to the "frontier," which

represents the highest performance observed on each of the indicators across all economies included in Doing

Business since each indicator was included in Doing Business. An economy’s distance to frontier is indicated

on a scale from 0 to 100, where 0 represents the lowest performance and 100 the frontier.

Distance to Frontier

This measure shows the distance of each economy to the “frontier,” which represents the highest performance

observed on each of the indicators across all economies included in Doing Business since each indicator was

included in Doing Business. An economy’s distance to frontier is indicated on a scale from 0 to 100, where 0

represents the lowest performance and 100 the frontier. For example, a score of 75 in DB 2012 means an

economy was 25 percentage points away from the frontier constructed from the best performances across all

economies and across time. A score of 80 in DB 2013 would indicate the economy is improving. In this way

the distance to frontier measure complements the yearly ease of doing business ranking, which compares

economies with one another at a point in time.

Indian exports to Iran may touch $5 b in 2013-14

India Show in Tehran

New Delhi, May 6:

Indian exporters are hoping to increase shipments to Iran this fiscal by more than half to $5 billion as both

countries have stepped up efforts to expedite deals to offset part of the oil payment owed to the sanction-hit

country.

In addition to exploring ways to increase banking channels, look at joint investment opportunities and firm up

credit lines, the Indian Embassy in Tehran and the Commerce Department are jointly sponsoring an India

Show in Tehran in October.

The India Show will focus on products such as engineering goods, pharmaceuticals, project goods, auto

components and chemicals, which hold scope for India as Iran has stopped importing these from the Western

countries following the sanctions imposed by the US and the EU because of the country’s alleged nuclear

activities.

India’s exports to Iran in 2012-13 jumped 39.4 per cent to $3.36 billion from $2.41 billion in 2011-12 after the

two countries put in place a Rupee payment mechanism — payment for part of the oil purchased from Iran is

deposited in a Rupee account in India’s UCO Bank.

This money is then used to make payments to Indian exporters to Iran thereby avoiding payments in dollars

and through foreign banks.

Exporters say that banks on both sides are doing their best to encourage trade by moving papers fast. “The

opening of letters of credit (L/Cs) by banks has been expedited with L/Cs worth $400 million opened in April

itself. This gives us hope that we will touch $5 billion of exports this year,” said Ajay Sahai Director-General

Federation of Indian Export Organisations.

Although India’s purchase of oil from Iran has gone down to 13.3 million tonne in 2012-13 from 18.1 million

tonne the previous year because of the Western sanctions, Iran still has a trade surplus of about $8 billion with

India.

“Now that all payments for oil from Iran are made in Indian Rupees because new sanctions have blocked

Dollar and Euro routes completely, Iran has interest in sourcing a greater number of items from India to use its

Rupee balance productively,” a Commerce Department official said.

“Iran is realising that India is not just a trusted supplier of textiles and agriculture products, but also of

sophisticated products such as drugs, project goods and machinery. The India Show is an effort by the

Government and exporters to display our prowess in various areas,” he said.

An Indian delegation led by the Commerce Secretary recently visited Iran and discussed operationalising new

banking channels, exploring joint investment opportunities and establishing credit lines to further deepen trade

between the two countries.

External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid, who was in Tehran last week, said that India is determined to

continue its crude oil purchases from Iran.
