Children aged 7-11 years are invited to join Durham University Museums’ Archaeology Club. The group meets on the first Saturday of the month from 2pm-4pm at the Oriental Museum.
Through exciting hands-on experiments and activities, the club will investigate all aspects of archaeology and explore Durham’s own archaeological secrets.

Children of all ages can visit the marquee on Palace Green, the heart of Durham’s World Heritage Site, to carry out crazy experiments and create their very own inventions! With a great range of interactive exhibitions designed to appeal to all the family, ‘Celebrate Science’ makes a great half-term day out.
Expertswillbeonhandtoanswerquestionsoneverythingfrom lasers to the Lindisfarne Gospels. There will be exciting live demonstrations and visitors can even step inside a Planetarium to see the stars. You can also sit back, relax and soak up the scientific atmosphere in the marquee’s YUM café.

Durham city’S traDitiOnal chriStmaS feStivalDurham’s award-winning, annual christmas festival will return in 2013 with a wide range of festive entertainment for all the family in and around the world heritage Site of the cathedral and the castle.
the huge, heated craft and gift marquee on palace green features over 190 stalls across all three days of the event. in the cathedral cloisters, a local food producers market featuring another 30 traders will operate on both friday and Saturday. in the cathedral itself, carols for all services take place on both Saturday and Sunday.
weekend entertainment on palace green, between the cathedral and the castle, will include live reindeer, a static falconry display, juggling and balloon-modelling, a lantern procession and St nicholas children’s service, the Seven Stories reading chair and performances from a wide range of local entertainers and musicians throughout the city centre.

the world heritage Site visitor centre, on Owengate palace green, enhances the experience of visitors to the uneScO world heritage Site of Durham cathedral and castle. the visitor centre provides visitors with an overview of what a world heritage Site is, what makes Durham significant, and what there is to see and do on the peninsula.
The Visitor Centre also provides a central point of information about places to visit on the World Heritage Site including the Castle and the Cathedral with its Claustral Buildings including the Treasures of St Cuthbert. The Centre also complements the work of Durham University Palace Green Library on the opposite side of the green.
Like the rest of the World Heritage Site, the Visitor Centre provides interactive experiences for visitors including exhibitions, performances and hands-on family activities.
