July 8, 9, 15, 16 @ 7:00pm July 10 @2:00 and 7:00pm, tickets $20Township 7 Winery21152 - 16TH Avenue, Langley, BCTownship 7 is thrilled to partner with Bard in the Valley again this year at our South Langley winery on the delightful Shakespearean battle of the sexes comedy, the Taming of the Shrew.A humorous play about married life, the Taming of the Shrew is classic Shakespeare with disguises, deception, courtship, marriage and plenty of slapstick humour along the way. One of his most controversial plays for modern times, it lampoons chauvinistic behaviour while simultaneously reaffi rming its social validity, as well as celebrates the quick wit and fi ery spirit of its heroine even while reveling in her humiliation. Is it too 16th century retro for modern times? You decide…Bring a picnic, come a bit early and enjoy Township 7 wines in our alfresco production. Please note, this is an outdoor performance, please dress weather appropriately. Rain or shine. Golden cake forGolden anniversaryIn 1966 the BC Farm Museum opened its doors to the public and this year are celebrating 50 years of collecting, preserving, restoring, and exhibiting artefacts depicting BC pioneer life! What started as a collection of 113 pieces of farm machinery by a few UBC professors has grown into a collection of over 5000 artefacts exhibited to the rafters in two buildings at 9131 King Street, Fort Langley. There is also a 10,000 volume reference library. The Museum is owned and operated by the Association and since 1990 this has been successfully accomplished by volunteers alone. The Interactive Presentation Terminals, Mural Painting, and Workshop Renovation projects are all "works in progress" this year!

To celebrate the 50th anniversary the museum volunteers have

local events this summer. An exhibit of their history will be on display inside the museum and possibly a booklet. Anniversary souvenir pens are a gift to anyone who puts a donation in the butter churn! Admission this year will be free to anyone born in 1966. Tiller's Folley has written an anniversary song called Pioneer Days which will be performed at the Celebration Dinner Event on November 12th. That event will include a silent auction.

Vij Family’s Chicken CurryWhat’s On! Langley North Recipe from Vikram Vij

We were lucky enough to run into celebrated Vancouver restauranteur Vikram Vij at a recent Vancouver Whitecaps

soccer game (we won by the way!) where he has a concession offering his renowned Indian food.

We got together afterwards and Vikram was kind enough to share one of his recipes with our readers!

Ingredients• ½ cup canola oil

• 2 cups finely chopped onions (2 large)

• 3 inch stick of cinnamon

• 3 Tbsp finely chopped garlic

• 2 Tbsp chopped ginger

• 2 cups chopped tomatoes (2 large)

• 1 Tbsp salt

• ½ tsp ground black pepper

• 1 tsp turmeric

• 1 Tbsp ground cumin

• 1 Tbsp ground coriander

• 1 Tbsp garam masala

• ½ tsp ground cayenne pepper

• 3 lbs chicken thighs, bone in

• 1 cup sour cream, stirred

• 2 cups water

• ½ cup chopped cilantro (including stems)

Serves 6

Look for our interview with Vikram Vij in an upcoming issue of What’s On! Langley North where we discuss his success, passion for food and future plans.

Vikram Vij is the owner of the hugely popular Vij’s and My Shanti restaurants in Downtown Vancouver and Surrey respectively.

For local Indian cuisine options we recommend An Indian Affair – check out their advertisement on page 5.

PreparationIn a large pan, heat oil on medium heat for 1 minute. Add onions and cinnamon, and sauté for

another 4 minutes. Add ginger, tomatoes, salt, black pepper, turmeric, cumin, coriander, garam

masala and cayenne. Cook this masala for 5 minutes, or until the oil separates from the masala.

Remove and discard skin from the chicken thighs. Wash thighs and add to the masala. Stir well.

Cook chicken thighs for 10 minutes, until the chicken looks cooked on the outside. Add sour

cream and water and stir well. Increase the heat to medium-high.

When curry starts to boil, reduce the heat to medium, cover and cook for 15 minutes, stirring 2

or 3 times, until chicken is completely cooked. Poke the thighs with a knife. If the meat is still pink,

cook for 5 more minutes. Remove and discard the cinnamon stick. Cool curry for at least half

an hour.

Transfer cooled chicken to a mixing bowl. Wearing latex gloves, peel chicken meat off the

bones. Discard bones and stir chicken back into the curry. Just before serving, heat curry on

medium heat until it starts to boil lightly. Stir in cilantro.

To Serve: Divide curry evenly among six bowls. Serve with naan or rice.

Wine: A Spanish Tempranillo with good fruit and balanced tannins is a great pairing.

MethodPour the milk into a medium size, heavy bottomed saucepan. Add 1/2 cup / 100g of the sugar. Place over medium heat, stirring continuously, until the mixture registers 77C on a cooking thermometer. If you don’t have a

In a crock or stainless steel medium-size bowl, whisk together the 4 egg yolks and remaining 1/4 cup / 50g of sugar until foamy and slightly thick. Very slowly add half of the hot milk to the eggs, whisking continuously. Pour this egg mixture back into the sauce pan with the remaining hot milk and return to the stove top on a low-medium heat. Stir continuously with a wooden spoon or heatproof rubber spatula until the mixture reaches 85C on the thermometer or if you have no thermometer is thick enough to coat the back of the spoon or spatula. Take care to make sure the mixture does not boil. Remove from the heat. If it’s not completely smooth whisk it well before proceeding.

Pour the heavy whipping cream into a clean, large stainless-steel or glass mixing bowl set over an ice bath. Pour

until fully incorporated. Stir occasionally until the mixture has fully cooled. This should take about 1/2 hour. Remove

in the refrigerator for at least 8 hours or overnight. Stir in the Baileys. Pour this chilled mixture into the ice-cream maker, follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

If you have no ice cream maker, don’t worry, you can still make ice cream though it will take a little longer. Pour the chilled mixture into a large container. Pop it in the fast-freeze section of your freezer. Check it after 45 minutes. It will have begun to crystallize around the edges. Use a hand whisk, wooden spoon or electric hand whisk to break the crystals up and incorporate them into the mixture, then refreeze. Keep checking and beating the mixture every 30-40 minutes and within 3 hours you will have ice cream.

NB. Alcohol lowers the freezing temperature of ice cream so this ice cream will be quite soft. Don’t be tempted to add more Bailey’s otherwise
