COP Decision on Global Climate Action

One of the outcomes of COP 25 in the "Chile Madrid Time for Action" decision includes Partiesformally expressing their support for the High-Level Champions, the Marrakech Partnership andthe role of non-Party stakeholders (cities, subnational regions, business, investors and civilsociety) in climate action. Many believe that this decision is a result of the high-impact action that has been mobilized in thepre-2020 period by coalitions, initiatives and stakeholders and a recognition of the importance ofcollective action and building on what has been already achieved to enhance ambition, supportParties and scale up implementation. CDM Passes New Milestones in Cooperative Action onClimate Change

The Clean Development Mechanism (CDM)recently passed two exciting milestones - itsmillionth voluntary cancellation of certifiedemission reductions (CERs) on the UN carbonoffset platform and its 2-billionth issuance ofCERs. To date, some 1,014,000 CERs have been soldand cancelled on the platform, by those wishing todo more to address climate change by supportingthe actions of others in developing countries.Meanwhile, those developing-country projects

using the commission-free site have earned more than USD 1,084,000.

The incentive created by the CDM has catalysed the registration of more than 8,100 projects andprogrammes of activities in 111 countries and has led to the issuance of some 2 billion CERs. Read more about the ongoing demand for cooperative action on climate change here. Source: UN Climate Change

Reminder notice: Deadline for Renewal of Project CreditingPeriod

The CDM Executive Board at its 100th meeting decided (EB 100 meeting report, paragraph 32) torevise the process for renewal of crediting period, introducing a deadline for the submission of arequest for renewal of crediting period (i.e. one year after the expiry of the crediting period).Missing the deadline would make the requesting for renewal not possible.

Version 02.0 of the "CDM project cycle procedure for project activities" and the "CDM projectcycle procedure for programme of activitities" incorporating this revision entered into force on 1January 2019 (the documents are available here).

With regard to the project activities and component project activities (CPAs) under programmesof activities with renewable crediting period that expired before or on 30 September 2019 (i.e."overdue cases"), in accordance with the Board's decision at EB 105, the deadline for thesubmission of renewal requests is set as 30 September 2020. For CPAs, please note thatcrediting period may only be renewed if the relevant programme of activities period has beenrenewed. See also the announcement on the CDM website here.

Call for Proposals: 7th Call for the Submission of NAMASupport Project Outlines

The United Kingdom and Germany jointlyannounce the intention to commit a total of up toEUR 60 million for the NAMA Facility to launch its7th Call for the submission of NAMA SupportProject (NSP) Outlines.

The 7th Call will officially open on 1 April 2020 and run until 1 September 2020.

Through this competitive Call, the NAMA Facility continues to support developing countries andemerging economies in implementing the most ambitious NAMAs with high potential fortransformational change towards a carbon-neutral future.

known as NAZCA, relaunched in September2019 with a new interactive map and countryprofile pages. The portal will serve a critical function bycapturing the breadth and depth of climate actionfrom the 'real world' economy, graduallyincorporating new data over the coming monthsfrom more than 12,000 stakeholders, and

capturing many more commitments going forward.

Climate Neutral Now "Future Vision" Event

The first meeting of signatories and partners of the ClimateNeutral Now initiative of UN Climate Change will be held inSeville, Spain, on 10 February 2020.

The event will be kindly hosted by Climate Neutral Nowsignatory Real Betis Balompié, a soccer team in the firsttier of La Liga.

As a special treat, on 9 February participants are also invitedto watch Real Betis - FC Barcelona.

Experiences and Lessons Learned in Institutionalization ofData Management Systems

The Consultative Group of Experts (CGE) successfully held its 2ndPilot Informal Forum on the margins of the twenty-fifth session ofUN Climate Change Conference (COP 25). The focus of thesecond pilot informal forum was on institutionalization of datamanagement systems and included presentations from Australiaand Indonesia. Read more here.

Climate Technologies for Averting, Minimizing andAddressing Loss and Damage in Coastal Zones

Coastal zones are sensitive to climate change risks. Impacts are unevenly distributed within andacross different communities, countries and regions. The accessibility and availability ofappropriate and adequate technologies may be able to avert, minimize, and address some ofthese risks. An expert dialogue co-organized recently by the WIM ExCom and the TEC discussed these

issues. Outcomes of the dialogue will be reflected in a policy brief that the two bodies will publishin 2020.

Report: The Heat is OnTaking Stock of Global Climate Ambition

The UN Development Programme (UNDP) and UN Climate Change haveput together the 2019 Global Outlook Report on Nationally DeterminedContributions (NDC), which demonstrates country commitments tocombating climate change and progress on climate action.

It is the most detailed review yet of the momentum since the ParisAgreement and demonstrates that the majority of countries are committedto combating climate change and making progress, even in challengingdevelopment contexts.

The report also highlights some of the key priorities governments want toinclude in their revised NDCs.

Scaling up Climate Finance Readiness in ThailandStakeholder Consultation Workshop | Bangkok, Thailand | 31 October 2019

RCC Bangkok and our host partner, IGES, havebeen supporting Thailand in the context of theirGreen Climate Fund Readiness programme, incollaboration with GIZ.

Under this project, a number of InvestmentOpportunities (IOs) for the country have beendeveloped and proposed in specific sectors. TheIOs were presented to stakeholders during aconsultation workshop for their validation and

Facilitating the Clean Development Mechanism inCambodia

In conversation with Mr. Adisorn Chieu, CDM project owner from Cambodia

The Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) recently reachedtwo exciting milestones: 1) its millionth cancellation on the UNcarbon offset platform; and 2) its 2-billionth CER issuance. To celebrate these milestones and to showcase the CDM inaction and as an example of how the RCC Bangkok cansupport CDM projects on the ground, we bring you highlightsfrom a conversation with Mr. Adisorn Chieu, project owner ofthe Angkor Bio Cogen (ABC) project, the first renewableenergy project in Cambodia to utilize rice husk as biomassfuel for electricity generation.

Finance for Climate Action

World Bank Announces Auction Focusing on MethaneReduction

The World Bank has announced plans for the fourth auction of thePilot Auction Facility for Methane and Climate Change Mitigation(PAF).

Previous auctions under the facility in 2015, 2016, and 2017 haveallocated USD 53.9 million of climate finance for up to 20.6 tonnesof carbon dioxide equivalent. The PAF, which is an innovative pay-for-performance instrument, uses auctions to maximize the use of

limited public resources and leverages private sector financing for climate change mitigation, Theupcoming auction will focus on methane-reducing projects with an anticipated budget of overUSD 6 million. Read more here.

Indo-Pacific Design Funding WindowThe Indo-Pacific Design Funding Window provides grant funding for thedesign and launch of catalytic blended finance solutions focusedon sustainable and resilient infrastructure in certain countries in the Indo-Pacific region.

This Window is funded by the Australian Government. Applications to the Indo-Pacific DesignFunding Window will be considered on a rolling basis. The upcoming application deadlines are:

Asia Natural Capital Design Funding Window The Asia Natural Capital Design Funding Window provides grantfunding for the design and launch of catalytic blended finance solutionsfocused on natural capital in Asia.

This Window is funded by the RS Group, a family office based in HongKong.

This Window will support blended finance solutions that find new ways to enhance and protectthe world's stock of natural assets, including water, land, soil, air, plants and animals, byattracting private investment at scale.

Applications to the Asia Natural Capital Design Funding Window will be considered on a rollingbasis. The upcoming application deadlines are:
