11:00 am Worship Prelude, Welcome, Announcements

Honoring Birthday & Anniversary

Children’s Message:

*Call to Worship: (from Psalm 105)

One: O give thanks to the Lord, call on his name, make known his deeds among the peoples. Many: Sing to him, sing praises to him; tell of all his wonderful works. One: Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice. All: Let us seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually.

*Ingathering Song: Have Thine Own Way, Lord

Have Thine Own Way, Lord! Have Thine own way!

Thou art the Potter, I am the clay.

Mold me and make me after Thy will,

While I am waiting yielded and still.

Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way!

Search me and try me, Master, today!

Whiter than snow, Lord, wash me just now,

As in Thy presence humbly I bow.

Call to Confession

Corporate Prayer of Confession:

One: The Kingdom of God has come near, repent, and believe the good

news.

Many: Lord, forgive us, we have failed to trust that you are near to

us.

One: The Kingdom of God has come near, repent, and rejoice in the good

news.

Many: Forgive us, for we exchange joy that comes from you for

shallow joy.

One: The Kingdom of God has come near, repent, and seek his justice and

righteousness.

HURRICAN HARVEY MISSION The Presbytery invites church leaders and mission teams to an informational meeting on our response to Hurricane Harvey on Saturday, September 9th from 9:30 to 11:30 am at Amity Church. CDRT Chairperson, Fred Wally will give an update from Presbyterian Disaster Assistance and how the Presbytery of Charlotte congregations can help. The CDRT could use help with plumbing and electrical work to complete 6 shower buildings that are currently under construction. Make Clean-Up buckets that we can deliver to Texas in the near future. The CDRT could use church volunteers to help us check the Clean-Up buckets to ensure that all needed items are in them. The needs for the response to Hurricane Harvey are great. God's people are once again called on to stand in the "GAP" - Give. Act. Pray. You may call Monday Through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm (EDT), at 1-800-872-3283 and donate by phone.

TIME TO JOIN THE CHOIR The adult choir will begin regular Wednesday night practices this Wednesday at 7:00 PM. We will introduce this year’s Christmas Cantata and prepare music for the rest of September and October. This is a perfect time for new folks to join the choir. Plan to come directly after the Wonderful Wednesday meal.

Apostles Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and

in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy

Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was

crucified, dead and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he

rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven and sitteth at the

right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to

judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy

catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the

resurrection of the body; and life everlasting. Amen.

ORGAN RECITAL AT MATTHEWS PC Matthews Presbyterian Church, 207 W. John Street, Matthews

Matthews Presbyterian Church is pleased to announce the completion of a 38 rank, 3 manual pipe organ, built by Garland Pipe Organs, Inc. based in Ft. Worth, TX. This is the first pipe organ built in our area by builder, Dan Garland, well regarded throughout the southwest for his pipe organs. The building of the organ was made possible by a generous posthumous gift from a lifelong member of the church in memory his mother. A Dedicatory Organ Recital will take place on September 29th at 7:00 pm in the Sanctuary with Patrick A. Scott as the Guest Organ Recitalist. An active recitalist and accompanist, Dr. Scott has appeared in concert and with choirs throughout the United States, as well as in Europe. He has a local connection to Charlotte, having served as Music Associate and Organist of Myers Park United Methodist Church. We hope that this organ will fill our church and community with uplifting music offered to the glory of God.
