The Art of DyingMonday 6 November - Sunday 15 April Downstairs exhibition space

An exhibition about High Wycombe Cemetery by artists Cally Trench and Alex Dewart and local historian Sally Scagell.

The first burial at High Wycombe Cemetery - of a baby called Emily Smith - took place in 1855. Since then hundreds of local people have been buried there. This exhibition shows drawings, films and paintings made in response to the cemetery, and explores its history and the stories associated with its most remarkable monuments.

Return of the Terrifying TrenchUntil January 2019

Our reconstructed World War 1 trench is open again by popular demand for the whole of 2018 – the centenary year of the end of WW1.

The terrifying trench gives an idea of what life was like on the front - enter if you dare, to hear the sounds of artillery and spot the trench terrors such as rats and flies and learn what you would need to help you survive.

20th Century Furniture From 19 May

This mini exhibition is an introduction to Wycombe’s furniture industry in the 20th century, especially how the two World Wars influenced chair designs. It is also an opportunity to find out about plans for our furniture project. Working with Bucks New University we want to talk to people about their memories of the local industry, create new exhibitions and celebrate our unique local furniture heritage in new ways. Get in touch if you have memories to share we would love to hear from you.

This exhibition celebrates everything edible and delicious in Wycombe District from prehistory to the present day. Did you know that Wycombe District had its own chocolate factory and that cherries were once a local speciality? Or that Tudor dinner guests were expected to bring their own cutlery? Find out all about local specialities such as Bucks bacon badgers and lardy cakes, as well as newer menu options from the Caribbean and Pakistan. With lots of hands-on activities for all.

Cally’s Board Game EveningThursday 15 February l 6 - 9pm

Bring your family and friends to play Cally Trench’s original board games, including Gravestones and Dry Bones. Book in advance or drop in, and stay as long as you like. Suitable for all the family.

A Beginners Guide to Stargazing

Saturday 17 March l 7 - 9.30pm

Our family friendly beginners evening starts with a talk from Dr Sandy Giles from Wycombe Astronomical Society on how to get to know the night sky and finding your way around it using known stars and constellations. This will be followed by some time spent looking at the stars through telescopes from the museum grounds with local Wycombe Astro experts. Your ticket will include a Wycombe Museum beer, alcoholic hot chocolate or a soft drink alternative, local homemade veg or meat lasagne & salad.

The Museum will open for visitors to look around from 6pm. Dress warmly with layers. The presentation and food will be served in the museum event room, but some time will be spent outside.

Final booking date for tickets with food 10th March 2017. Walk in tickets without food may be available after this date – please contact the museum directly.

Join Walking Willie for a 2.5hr walking history tour around Wycombe, departing from and returning to Wycombe Museum. The museum will be open at 10am for a 10:15am departure, so pick up your take away drinks before you go! It is a gentle walk but be aware there are some hills involved.
