What’s INSIDE
Prayers needed!! for our Jr.
Hi UMY Team during their summer mission trip. The group will be leaving at about 9:00 a.m. this Sunday morning heading for Eureka Springs. Putting their faith into action where they will complete projects such as repairing homes for families in need. Working at home-less shelters and leading children's outreach pro-grams through Christian service.
The Power of One The other day my son Alex took his girl friend Annie around Stuttgart to show
off the town. Next stop was Memphis. Memphis is a special place for Alex.
He and the youth groups he has been part of spent a week each summer there
showing the love of Christ to the people in the Big Hampton neighborhood.
They did this by roofing their homes through the local mission ministry known
as Service Over Self (SOS).
Alex and Annie pulled into a Memphis gas station and while pumping gas he
saw a car try and pull into the station off the street. But it stopped short. He
went over and helped them push it in to the pumps. The female driver com-
mented that the car was out of gas, but she didn’t have the money for it. So,
Alex pumped her gas and paid for it. Needless to say, it had an impact on the
woman.
The power of one. One person can make a big difference in the life of another.
I want to re-iterate a word I shared with you a few weeks ago. And that is for
each of us to go out of our way to reach one, bring one and keep one. If each
one of us would do that we would grow by at least one profession of faith, one
new member, one more in worship, one more in a small group, one more in
mission. You get the picture. When we all do that, we will change the lives of
many people in Stuttgart and beyond, as well as bring more people into the
family of Christ.
It’s easy to be intimidated thinking that each of us must reach as many people
as we can with Jesus and his love for them. Instead, I want to remind you to
just focus on reaching one person.
We haven’t had many first-time guests lately. Let’s pick up the mantle of disci-
pleship and each one reach one, bring one and keep one. They’ll be glad you
did. God will be glad you did. We’ll all be glad you did. And you’ll be glad
you did. Remember, the power of one this week.

John Wesley, the man credited with
creating the Methodist movement was a fascinating figure. The second son of Samuel and Susanna Wesley, he was born on June 17, 1703, in Epworth, Lin-colnshire, England. After six years of education at the Charterhouse, London, he entered Christ Church, Oxford Uni-versity, in 1720. Graduating in 1724, he resolved to become ordained a priest; in 1725 he was made a deacon
by the Bishop of Oxford.
In late 1735, a ship made its way to the
New World from England. On board was a young Anglican minister, John Wesley, who had been invited to serve as a pastor to British colonists in Savan-nah, Georgia. When the weather went sour, the ship found itself in serious trouble. Wesley, also chaplain of the vessel, feared for his life. But he no-ticed that the group of German Moravi-ans, who were on their way to preach to American Indians, were not afraid at all. In fact, throughout the storm, they sang calmly. When the trip ended, he asked the Moravian leader about his serenity, and the Moravian responded with a question: Did he, Wesley, have faith in Christ? Wesley said he did, but later reflected, "I fear they were vain words."
One evening in May,1738 Wesley had
an experience that c hanged every-thing! Attending a society on Al-
dersgate St., London, someone was reading Luther’s preface to the Epistle to the Romans, describing the change which God works in the heart through faith in Christ, he felt his heart strange-ly warmed. Wesley felt he did trust in Christ, Christ alone for salvation and assurance that Christ had taken away his sins, and saved him for the law of sin and death.
Wesley did not intend to found a new
denomination, but historical circum-stances and his organizational genius conspired against his desire to remain in the Church of England.
Follower’s of Wesley met in private
homes, but soon became to large. Then “classes” were formed, meeting each week to pray and read the Bible. The movement grew rapidly, as did it’s critics, who called his followers method-
ists, a label they wore proudly.
