The Hay War Memorial High School Museum was recently nominated for an IMAGinE Education and Audience Development award for its digital project. These Awards are run by Museums and Galleries NSW.

The intended audience is school students of all ages and young people up to 25, but the project is also of interest to museum visitors of all age, locals with service personnel in their family both past and present, and the wider public who can access the information through the internet.

The project includes development of a series of professionally produced video clips for web access, highlighting individual Hay service personnel across the twentieth century, based on material from the museum collection. The project also includes the development of a comprehensive digital photographic record of the many HWMHS ex-students who have joined the armed services, from World War II through to the present day. The video clips are initially being produced by David Jellings of Mental Media, with the idea that a template will be established so that further clips might be produced with student input. The record of ex-students in the Armed Services is being

compiled and created by volunteers, including students on work placement in the museum.

The Awards Presentation was held last Friday at the Heroes and Legends Rugby League Museum at Moore Park. Representatives from museums all over NSW gathered to learn about the range of projects for which museums had been nominated and the occasion provided a wonderful forum for promoting individual projects and achievements across all museums, from small regional collections such as the HWMHS Museum to the major institutions in Sydney.

Pictured are Margot Jolly and Kylie Winkworth, both museum consultants who have worked with the Hay Museums, with Mary Lou Gardam, representing the HWMHS Museum.

Early Entry to Charles Sturt University and University of Canberra Every year our students fare very well with early entry programs to universities and this year appears to be no exception. Quite a few of our Year 12 school leavers have been the happy recipients of emails from Charles Sturt University and University of Canberra, informing them of their success in the Principals Recommendation Scheme (early entry). These will only translate into actual offers in early December iF students have made that course their number one preference. We congratulate students on their success to date, but remind them that they must follow this instruction to receive a formal offer. We look forward to publicising our students’ success once the offers are made by UAC in December.

Four girls travelled to Wagga last Friday to attend the regional cricket trials—Jessie Harrington, Hannah McGufficke, Jodie Hicks and Lily Tassell. All girls performed well and congratulations go to Jodie (who was also named team captain) and Lily – picked as reserve bowler.

The lifesaving scheme started yesterday and will continue on Wednesday afternoons until the end of the year. All students will be attempting awards from the Royal Lifesaving Society according to their swimming level. Students are escorted to the pool 2nd half of lunch and then back to school to catch buses. Valuable water safety skills are taught as well as basic first aid and resuscitation. It is expected that all students will attend this worthwhile program.
