In response to your feedback where families wanted to see more cultural activities, last Friday we kicked off 'Koori Cultural Groups- Men’s and Women’s Business’. Adam Nye from the Local Aboriginal Lands Council and Kizzy Nye our AEO are leading the way in handing down stories and cultural knowledge to the boys and girls. These groups will continue for term 3. The boys were super proud of their didjeridoo playing efforts, and the girls enjoyed their weaving and painting. These groups practice traditional protocol where boys learn from older males, and girls learn from older females. All students left the school on Friday afternoon beaming with pride. Thank you Adam and Kizzy for creating this opportunity for all students. Next week is Book Week, 'Reading is my secret power', the school is looking forward to seeing who or what turns up on book parade day! The staff have planned their outfits (it's a surprise), and I can't wait to see all of us celebrating. Reading can really take you anywhere - the possibilities are endless! In response to 'SeeSaw' app feedback received, the school will be going ahead and purchasing this program. Please keep an eye out for more details to come. Thank you for your valuable feedback and support. NAIDOC Week is fast approaching and we will be celebrating during Week 9, details will be provided soon. It was a pleasure involving our students, and we look forward to making use of the facility. Thank you to the Local Aboriginal Lands Council and Eurobodalla Shire Council for involving the school.

EXPRESSION OF INTEREST An Expression of Interest (EOI) form is available from the office. If you have a child or know of a child, starting Kinder in 2020 please complete the EOI and return it to the office ASAP so we can start to prepare for the new students. To start school a child must have turned 5 years of age before 31 July 2020. Kinder Orientation will take place 18-22 November. More information will be sent out closer to the date.

Why is regular attendance at school important? Regular school attendance will help your child to succeed in later life. Attending school every day makes learning easier for your child and helps build and maintain friendships with other children. If your child misses learning the basic skills in the early years of school, they may develop learning problems in later years. What should I do if our family is going on holiday in school time? Families should try to arrange holidays during school vacations. If your family holiday is during school time, inform the school principal in advance and complete an “Application for Extended Leave”. Depending on the circumstances and duration of leave, you may ask the school to provide tasks that can be completed while your child is absent.

BOOK WEEK Book Week is fast approaching and this year our Book Character Parade will be held on Monday 19 August at 2.05pm. “Reading Is My Secret Power” is the theme so get creative and prepare to dress as your favourite book character. The Book Fair will be over two days; Monday 19 and Tuesday 20 August for you to purchase books, posters etc. Books will be packed up after 2nd break on Tuesday. Commissions earned from sales enables us to purchase new resources for our library.

ANNUAL SCHOOL CAMP The Yr 3/4/5/6 annual school camp is 4-8 November 2019 and we will be travelling to Katoomba/Penrith. Cost is $350.00. Full payment is due by Friday 20 September. At this stage only 3 students have paid! The school has to pay for accommodation, activities and bus prior to the excursion, so if payment has not been made by Friday, 20 September we may have to cancel.

DISTRICT ATHLETICS Congratulations to our District Athletics team, Rhiarla, Taylam, Danielle, Tyrone, Justina, Ashlynn and Tiarnah. All students were well behaved and tried their best. Justina placed 3rd in her heat for the 100m and raced in the 11 yrs 100m Girl’s Final. Special mention to Rhiarla who had a go at every event she was entered in (4 events). Well done to the whole team. A great effort.
