What’s Happening at BPC March 28, 2014
Each Wednesday night during the Season of Lent, Bedford Presbyterian Church will be hosting Faith Feasts – a time of fellowship and learning for people of all ages. Watch for more details in the coming weeks. Faith Feasts began on Wednesday, March 12, and will run through April 16 at 6:30 p.m. each week.
Dinner With Friends – was so good the first time, let’s do it again March 30! Are you a 20-‐to-‐40-‐something person who likes to eat good food and hang out with great people?
It just so happens that BPC is continuing to gather together a group of folks like you for that very purpose! We want to meet new people, make new connections, and grow in faith through fellowship, service, and food. This group is so new that it doesn’t even have a name yet, so we’re calling it “Dinner With Friends” and holding the next dinner at the church in the Fellowship Hall on Sunday, March 30 from 6-‐7:30 p.m. We will eat dinner together and have some fun get-‐to-‐know-‐you activities. Childcare will be provided. The dinner will be covered dish and will have a MEXICAN THEME, so break out your best recipe, bring a dish to share, and come enjoy dinner with friends! Please RSVP to John Sawyer ([email protected]) by Wednesday, March 26th.
You are Invited to. . .The Way of Prayer A Lenten Enrichment Experience
Co-‐Pastors Karen Hagy and John Sawyer invite you to “The Way of Prayer” A Lenten Enrichment Series for Adults and Youth. These classes will be held at both the 9:00 Hour on Sunday morning in the Parlor or at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evenings
in Lent after the potluck (6:30-‐Fellowship Hall) supper during the Faith Feasts. During this study we will discuss the following topics:
What is prayer? How do you pray? Images of God Praying by heart Praying with music Praying by gaze Praying with our bodies Scriptural prayer Contemplative prayer
Praying with and for others Prayer and social transformation
This series comes from the Companions in Christ small group spiritual formation experience. Books can be purchased in the office for the classes for $10.00 but are not necessary for participation. You are invited to come for one, two, three or all the classes.
Let us during Lent deepen our connection to God and one another thru faithful intentional study together!
How Can I get Involved in Mission? Deliver food for CareGivers Inc. Thursday, April 3 at 5:00 pm.
Thursday evening, April 3rd, BPC is scheduled to deliver groceries for CareGivers Inc.
CareGivers Inc. provides service to individuals who may not receive aid through the human service system and do not qualify for government-‐assisted programs. They also provide service to those individuals who may be receiving assistance from other agencies, but have additional needs which have gone unmet. Most are elderly or disabled.
We need 10 teams (20 volunteers). If you haven't done it before, it's delivering small bags of groceries to 3 or 4 people in and around Manchester. CareGivers provide name, address, phone numbers, and directions. Recipients are usually grouped very close together. So pick a partner or we can help you get one. Show up at CareGivers at 5:00 pm, you are done around 6:30. Sign-‐ up sheets with directions to CareGivers’ office are in fellowship hall or call or email Gorge Reese, 714-‐4317, [email protected].
Are You Interested in Mission? Do you have a passion for helping others? Do you have a talent for organizing events? Do you have ideas for new ways the church can get involved in Mission? Do you just want to help out on one-‐off events? If you said “yes” to even one of these questions, then we need you! There are many ways to get involved with Mission at Bedford Presbyterian Church. The Mission Team meets monthly on the third Wednesday of every month at 7:30p in the basement classrooms under the Fellowship Hall. During meetings we discuss ideas of activities we want to pursue, get updates on what is going on with active projects and plan for future mission activities.
Don’t like committee meetings? No problem! Take a lead role on one event. We will strive to create a group to help you plan and execute a mission activity. Currently we are looking for leads for:
• Church Wide Bar-‐b-‐q that is scheduled for May 18th (in conjunction with Fellowship) • Walk Against Hunger 5k for New Horizons • Fundraiser on October 5th to support the Faders, Mission Doctors in Africa that the church has
committed to support • New area: Family Mission Opportunities – we are looking for someone to find and organize volunteer
opportunities that include children and/or are for families • Evergreen wreaths sale during Christmas holiday season
Don’t want to plan an event but you are creative and good at writing? We are also looking for a communication lead that will help us get the word out about all of the amazing opportunities for Mission that are available for our church members during the year.

The Caring Closet A Compassionate Ministry of BPC "And the King will say, 'Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me'." Matthew 25:40
The Caring Closet is an important ministry of BPC, created by one of our youth, Reed Swain, in concert with the prison ministry of the Rev. Beth Richeson. It provides a backpack of clothing and other necessities for women who are leaving the prison to begin new lives. Many among us do not realize that these women often leave without anything, and often do not have anything to wear as they leave. Our ministry provides them with both necessary clothing, and the dignity that goes along with many of the simpler things in life. It is a way for us to care for our sisters in the family of Christ. During the month of April, we will be holding a clothing drive to replenish the Caring Closet, and also to gather winter clothing to support the Deacon's clothing drive, usually held in the fall. Throughout the month of April, we would be grateful for donations of both new and gently used clothing and other items. The items we are seeking include:
• Backpacks
• New Clothing, including underwear, socks, bras and pajamas
• New or Gently Used Clothing, including jeans and sweatpants, tee shirts (L and XL), Sweatshirts (L & XL), Fleece jackets, rain coats, vests, winter coats, boots and sneakers
• And some miscellaneous things...a full shopping list is available in Fellowship Hall.
Please drop off your donations on the designated table in Fellowship Hall during the month of April. Of course, we are happy to receive donations throughout the year, but please help us to have a successful clothing drive throughout April! For more information about The Caring Closet, please contact Susan Swain at [email protected].
