Touch A Truck Thank You

I Am Thankful For…

This Thanksgiving as I sat down to enjoy a warm, home-cooked Thanksgiving meal with my family, I couldn’t help but

think about all I have to be thankful for this holiday season. In fact, as the new CEO of Oaks Integrated Care, I am grateful for

so much it’s hard to know where to start.

Just two days before, we finished distributing an incredible 1,610 Thanksgiving meals to families in need that we serve each day. Thanks to YOUR outpouring of support- local companies, civic groups, churches, schools and individuals- families in need throughout our community experienced a traditional feast and the memories that go along with it.

One month into my new role as CEO, I am thankful for the choice I made to join Oaks Integrated Care (then Family Service of Burlington County) 30 years ago as an intern. I can’t help but smile and know that it was the best decision I ever made. I am excited for the next chapter in Oaks’ history and honored to lead the organization forward.

I am thankful over 16,000 people in 9 counties throughout New Jersey received our services in 2016. Our longstanding commitment to serve the most vulnerable populations resonates as much with me today as it did 30 years ago. Each life touched means hope for wellness, recovery and the opportunity for a stable, productive future.

I am thankful that I see so much to be optimistic about heading into 2017. I continue to be energized by the people we serve and the employees who bring their compassion and dedication to the job each day. We plan to build on our strong financial foundation that will help us navigate the changing healthcare system and consistently focus on best clinical practice.

I am thankful for all of you for believing in our mission. So far this year, you helped us collect over 18,000 diapers, 400 prom dresses, 900 stuffed backpacks, 1,610 Thanksgiving meals and MUCH more. Whether you gave through volunteering, donating, or advocating on our behalf, we can’t thank you enough for sharing the warmth and joy of your heart with those served by our organization.

Peace and best wishes for the holiday season,

This summer children in several Oaks’ programs became ROCKSTARS for a week thanks to our friends at the TJX Foundation and T.J.Maxx. The foundation

generously donated $5,000 to support arts and cultural opportunities for vulnerable youth in our programs. Oaks partnered with the School of Rock in Cherry Hill to create a

fun but challenging program focused teamwork through musical cohesiveness.

Many of the children participating did not have a musical background but quickly learned how to play the drums, guitar and even the harmonica. They had just five days to master their musical

abilities, select a song and make t-shirts before the big performance. At the end of the week, families were invited to School of Rock to watch the newly formed band ROCK OUT!

DONORSPOTLIGHT

Thank you TJX Foundation for your generous donation and commitment to our community.

Advancing Supportive Housing Robert’s JourneyCongratulations to Robert Nock who will receive the 2016 Supportive Housing Award for Tenant of the Year by the Supportive Housing Association of New Jersey at their 18th Annual Conference this December! This award recognizes an individual living in a supportive housing setting that, “exemplifies an outstanding tenant though their actions and support of fellow residents.”

Robert started living in Oaks Supportive Housing nearly 10 years ago. His caseworker nominated him for this award for demonstrating leadership in advancing the supportive housing model to peers and associates in his program and in the workplace. Not only has Robert achieved success as a sober and independent resident, his pleasant demeanor allows him to shine as an employee of over five years at Staples.

By talking about his personal experiences, Robert shows others struggling with mental illness and substance abuse that housing and treatment can mean the difference between a person lost and a full meaningful productive life. His caseworker says, “Robert serves as a role model to housemates who continue to struggle with a variety of life problems. He generously shares the resources he has acquired through hard work.”

Robert’s inspiring story shows that with stable housing and wraparound service such as case management and counseling, it is possible to move toward wellness and recovery.

We couldn’t be more proud of Robert and can’t wait to support him at the upcoming event!
