Year 7 and 8 Mathematics Curriculum Guide 2016 17

Year 7 will be the first year group to work through the new 2016 scheme of work. The scheme of

work has been re-designed to allow students to explore topics in greater detail and to provide

opportunities for students to demonstrate mastery in a topic. The scheme also supports the schools

new progress report structure.

Year 8 will continue with the current scheme of work but will also be working towards being GCSE

ready by the end of the year.

All students will start the AQA GCSE (8300) course at the start of Year 9.

Ability groups All students will be taught in ability groups based on previous test results, KS2 data, homework results, and effort and progress in class. There will be opportunity for some students to move to a different ability group during the year to allow them to make better progress. This will usually take place after an assessment and will be at the discretion of Maths Faculty team of teachers.

Students will sits exam at the end of year 7 and 8. The current plan is for students to sit a non

calculator and a calculator exam, each of which will be 1 hour long and will cover the salient aspects

of the course.

Assessments. Students in Year 7 will sit end of topic tests (every 4-5 weeks). Student in Year 8 will regularly sit some form of assessment, usually towards the end of each half term. The results of all of these tests will be used to help identify topics that the students are good at and those topics which need more development. The Maths teachers will use this information to plan interventions at school in order to help students make progress. Student Support We provide a number of different strategies to help students beyond their Mathematics lessons. These include:

Lunchtime and break time homework or class work support club - room 314 every day.

MyMaths website – used for homeworks but which also provides excellent revision materials. http://www.mymaths.co.uk/ all students will be given a top level login which allows them to access every topic, and they will be given a personal login for their homework.

An introduction to the formal elements of

Art

Students will build on

previous knowledge and develop their

design in clay developed from the student’s self-

portrait.

Students will explore

colour and pattern by looking at images from inside the body which have been significantly

magnified and coloured. The students will generate pattern work, printing and pattern developed on the

stimuli provided.
