Why we’re here
• Welcome to Western Illinois University• By the time you leave, you should understand the
following:• What ROTC is• What sort of students ROTC is looking for• What a cadet’s weekly schedule looks like.• What opportunities will be available to students that
complete ROTC.• Question and Answer Session
• “Is ROTC like the movie “Full Metal Jacket?”• “Does joining ROTC mean joining the military?”• “If I’m in ROTC, will I have to wear a uniform
everywhere?”• “Will ROTC take up all of my time?”
![Page 3: What you should know about WIU's Army ROTC program](https://reader036.vdocuments.site/reader036/viewer/2022062822/587c6a531a28ab633c8b7951/html5/thumbnails/3.jpg)
Bottom Line
• ROTC is designed to enhance your college experience, not dominate it.
• Therefore, you will NOT have to dress like this everywhere you go:
![Page 4: What you should know about WIU's Army ROTC program](https://reader036.vdocuments.site/reader036/viewer/2022062822/587c6a531a28ab633c8b7951/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
Common Misconceptions
• Signing up for an ROTC class is not the same as enlisting
• Basic Training is not required for participation in ROTC
• ROTC Cadets are not treated like Army privates.
• ROTC produces leaders, not followers
![Page 5: What you should know about WIU's Army ROTC program](https://reader036.vdocuments.site/reader036/viewer/2022062822/587c6a531a28ab633c8b7951/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
Why Consider a Career as an Army Officer?
• Challenging and rewarding career
• Sense of belonging
• True leadership & responsibility
• Excellent pay & benefits
• A job waiting for you after graduation!
