HAIR LOSS FACTSA full and healthy head of hair is something we take for granted in our youth. A healthy head of hair is a strong biological sign of our health and well-being to potential partners. So, it is understandable the considerable stress and loss of self-esteem we feel when we start to experience hair loss. It can affect our ability to attract and keep desirable partners, and may even affect our professional prospects as well.

Hair loss or baldness (Androgenetic Alopecia) is a genetically inherited trait, and is more common than we perceive, affecting 4 in 7 persons. The baldness gene can result in the onset of hair loss beginning as early as the end of puberty.

Here is a startling fact, genetically predisposed hair loss will affect up to 70% of men and 50% of women during their lifetime.

Frustratingly, the baldness gene inheritance and effects seems utterly random, skipping generations and affect siblings with very different outcomes.

If you have started to notice the initial signs of hair loss or baldness, you should take action immediately. There are things you can do to manage the effect of hair loss. We encourage you to prepare yourself by getting to know the facts prior to taking the appropriate and informed decision on the right course of action for you.

ABOUT DR MARTINICKDr Jennifer Martinick has been specialising in hair transplantation for over 25 years. She is internationally acclaimed for her work in the field of hair loss and her contribution to scientific research, and has presented lectures in Australia, Asia, Europe and the US.

Dr Martinick is a past-president of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery and winner of the Platinum Follicle Award in New York, the highest accolade possible in her profession. She was the first Australian, and the first woman, to receive this honour.

“Hair transplantation, performed well, draws on a combination of science, mathematics and artistry to replant hair at the same angle, orientation and curl that it appears in nature,” says Dr Martinick.

While at some clinics the physician is only present at the beginning and end of the surgery, Martinick Hair Restoration physicians are present for the whole procedure.

HAIR TRANSPLANT PROCEDUREA hair transplant is a simple outpatient procedure, that depending on the amount of grafts transplanted, will take between four and six hours.

Under local anaesthesia a strip of donor tissue is taken from the back of the head, the follicular units are then prepared for transplant and the recipient sites for the donor hair will be prepared for transplant. The transplanted hair, taken from a donor strip of hair bearing skin from the back of the scalp, will grow just as your own hair from the harvested area does.

The principle of donor dominance ensures the transplanted hair continues to grow for the rest of your life. This is because the transplanted hair is resistant to the hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT), the hormone that causes hair loss.

Follicular Unit Transplantation allows the hair transplant to appear natural both at an individual hair follicle level and in regards to the overall distribution.

With this hair regrowth technique, surgeons can place micro grafts containing one to four hairs into the recipient sites to achieve a more natural appearance. Careful orientation of the hair follicles so that they follow the natural direction of the hair and taking care to place them so they do not overlap or line up unnecessarily, helps to achieve maximum coverage.

Older surgical hair restoration techniques and technology significantly hindered surgeons’ abilities to give their hair transplant patients aesthetically natural-looking hairlines. The Follicular Unit Transplant technique used by our hair transplant surgeons is the new standard mastering the technology and fine art of hairline design known as the ‘snail track’ hairline.

This new technique of hair transplant surgery earns its name from the way it mimics your natural hair line irregularity, ruling out a sharply defined edge. It is also denser in some parts – a feature of youthful hairlines.

THE MARTINICK TECHNIQUETM

The Martinick Technique™ is a world leading technique for hair transplant surgery, developed and perfected through years of research by our principal surgeon and educator, Dr Jennifer Martinick.

The patented Martinick Technique™ is recognised the world over and has the reputation of producing superior results that are natural and completely undetectable.

The Martinick Technique™ is unique in that it incorporates a large degree of meticulous planning, preparation and continuous feedback into all stages/aspects of each hair transplant procedure. The Martinick Technique™ enables efficient and effective handling of hair follicles, an irreplaceable and limited resource, and ensures minimal trauma and optimum survival of grafts.

Another beneficial feature of the Martinick Technique™ is the practice of replanting the donor follicles in the way hair naturally flows – this produces more aesthetically appealing results, less bleeding and improved survival rate of precious donor grafts.

FUTFOLLICULAR UNIT TRANSPLANTStrip Harvesting Method

Single, minimal linear scar, easily concealed by hair

Hair of similar density is brought back together at the suture line

Hair grafts are surrounded by a healthy level of tissue and fat

Minimal graft damage in initial skin incision, microscope use for dissection of the donor strip limits transaction rate to 1-2%

Efficient harvesting of grafts

Very high number of grafts can be harvested in a single session

Surgeons are practised in the use of scalpels, making strip harvesting more natural a process

More affordable than punch harvesting on a per graft basis

FUEFOLLICULAR UNIT EXTRACTION

Punch Harvesting Method

Punch cutting causes hyperpigmented circular scars

Donor area where grafts are harvested may look moth eaten

Grafts are surrounded with very little tissue and are prone to dehydration, which is a major cause of diminished graft survival

Additional pulling and manipulation of the graft contributes to diminished survival

Tedious, fatigue inducing graft harvesting process

Limit on the amount of grafts that can be harvested in a single session

Steep learning curve for surgeons accustomed to using scalpels, not punches

Cost may exceed double the price of strip harvesting

INTERESTED?BOOK A CONSULTATION

Our consultation goal is to equip you with the information you need to make an informed decision about the hair loss treatment that is right for you.

After the consultation you will have a clear idea of what can be done for you and how much a hair transplant procedure, tailored to your needs, will cost.

The cost of follicular unit transplantation (FUT) in Australia varies, largely dependent upon the surgeon you choose. The price of a hair transplantation procedure will also depend

upon the number of grafts you require.

While male pattern baldness is the most common source of hair loss in men, it should never be assumed this is the source of your hair loss. During the consultation with a

Martinick Hair Restoration professional you will be asked about your age, family history of hair loss and any other possible contributing factors such as stress or illness.

If you decide on the permanent solution of hair transplantation an individualised plan will be developed for you.

We can also offer a cost estimation online. Please click the button below to fill out our online form so we can obtain as much possible information about your requirements:
