This is quite common, especially if they have a large family: sisters and cousins usually have first picks. Let’s forget that you don’t feature in the wedding the way you wanted, and let’s instead focus on what your position is now: what should you wear? There are a few rules in dressing for a wedding, so let’s look now.

• You know that your friend is going to relish her wedding photos forever (we hope). This means that you need to wear an outfit that's going to look good. There are two rules here:

• You need to wear something timeless, so that when you all reminisce on the

photos 50 years down the line; you still think you all look as beautiful as ever. Timeless dresses, such as rockabilly dresses, will travel down the ages. they’ll never look outdated for the very fact that there is no frame of reference for such a style. If you do opt for 50s, style dresses, such as rockabilly dresses, make sure that they don’t stand out too much. They shouldn’t be overly colourful or have patterns that are too obscure, because this then dates the dress and renders it not timeless (time full would be the word, but there is no such word so we won’t use it).

• You need to blend into the background so that you don’t upstage the bride, the groom, the mother of the bride, the groomsmen and the bridesmaids. If you can, ask your friend about the theme of the wedding. What are her colours? choose a dress that matches the colours. if you can’t find this information beforehand, then choose neutral colours.

• You need to match the etiquette. Different people will create different atmospheres for their wedding. Some people prefer to have a formal wedding, while others prefer to keep things informal. You need to match your dress to the style of the wedding.
