What to Know About Depression Symptoms An unusually sad mood. Loss of enjoyment and interest in activities that used to be enjoyable. Lack of energy and tiredness. Feeling worthless or feeling guilty though not at fault. Thinking often about death or wishing to be dead. Difficulty concentrating or making decisions. Moving more slowly or sometimes becoming agitated and unable to settle. Having sleeping difficulties or sometimes sleeping too much. Noticeable changes in eating habits, sometimes resulting in weight gain or loss. A person who is clinically depressed will have at least one (1) of the first two (2) symptoms nearly every day for at least two (2) weeks. This person may also experience one or more of the other seven (7) symptoms listed here. NOTE: Remember 3-2-1: if three (3) or more of the above symptoms last for two (2) weeks, all at one (1) time, get a mental health evaluation for this person to determine what kind of treatment will be most helpful.
