Harpreet Bhupal 1005 Media What makes a good magazine feature? Audience : A good magazine feature has to appeal to its targeted audience and grab the targeted audience attention. The viewers who it is aimed at need to feel like they are included in the show and are part of it. Who ever is presenting the show can have an impact on the target audience because if they are older people presenting the show, older people are more likely to watch the show whereas if there are young presenters presenting the show it will grab the attention of a younger audience as they may be relating to them. Topics : A good magazine feature has to include an interesting and suitable topic for a targeted audience, these topics should be able to entertain and inform the audience. In order for the topic which they are going to discuss be good the targeted audience’s interest should be taken in to account so when you come to the stage of choosing a subject to have in mind it is a interesting one which will keep the audience engaged. If the target audience is teenagers aged 15-19 then topics such as education, teenage pregnancy, school dinners and many more would appeal to that audience. A good example of this is the cooking documentary ‘the big eat` where there are students guiding the show, which gives a clear indication of who the targeted audience is. Conventions: Some of the conventions of a magazine feature can inform or entertain the targeted audience. By having reporters who are reporting from a different location than the studio adds realism to the documentary because the viewers are looking at the footage of the actual event. A good example of this is the cycling documentary where we see the actual event take place and people cycling away, these keeps the viewer engaged and not get bored that quickly. An interview is another good feature because it is showing a different view and different option of people in a discussing.
