WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A GAZEBO AND AN ARBOR?
There are some major differences between a gazebo and an
arbor. An arbor could be called a gateway to an outdoor space. Many times an arbor has vines growing up on them. Designs can include:
• Trellis walls – Side panels, usually consisting of latticework, are
only a foot or two wide. The sidewalls are basically used to direct traffic in and out of an area, such as a sidewalk or path.
• Arched roof – The roof is usually open latticework.• Anchored to the ground
A gazebo is more of an outdoor shelter. They are either polygon or round in shape, and they resemble an outdoor room on a deck or in a yard. They are situated so that the open entrance focuses the occupants toward a particular view out in the yard, such as a pretty garden. Some features are, they:
• Offer seating for several people by providing bench seats around the walls. • Are built with a sturdy foundation and raised floor.• Could be a shelter from a storm or offer shade, as the roof is completely
covered. The only open area is usually the upper side walls. Both a gazebo and an arbor are decorative fixtures; however, the gazebo may
require a building permit, depending on its size and weight. Also, a gazebo would be more expensive to build, as there is quite a bit more to it than an arbor.
Either of these two could be a beautiful addition to your yard or garden. To
