The Origins of Rock• Rock n’ Roll sound came out of
African-American culture and the Blues, with artists such as Robert Johnson and Leadbelly up to Muddy Waters.
•Chuck Berry and Elvis Presley pioneered the sound of rock in the 1950’s, using electric guitars and youth-oriented lyrics.
•Also comes the “British Invasion.”

• Rock in the sixties was influenced by revolutionary thinking, social issues such as the war in Vietnam and segregation, and the use of narcotics such as LSD.
