Why is Marine Different than Automotive?
Automotive engine technology development is now dominated by the
requirement to achieve future CAFÉ regulations (Emissions / Fuel Economy)
Many of these automotive technologies have low real value for marine
applications; where the duty cycles require operation at higher engine speed
and torque, their fuel economy impact is minimized
The quick implementation of these increased CAFÉ standards is creating a
disruptive cycle in which new engine technologies virtually become obsolete as
soon as they are introduced…..and are unproven in a marine environment
With its own, purpose-built marine-specific platform, Mercury has been able to
focus on designs that really benefit marine operation with low friction,
efficient air handling and selected new technologies, like wide-band oxygen
sensors, that really do provide meaningful benefit without introducing risk

Acceleration Surpasses Small Block V8!
Performance-Tuned Scroll Intake Mercury’s new cross-ram, tuned long runner scroll intake
manifold packs the air into the intake track to build power
More air … More Power
Delivers extremely high torque to help get the hull on plane Electronic
Throttle Body
Electronic Throttle Body with Adaptive Speed Control Set the desired rpm or engine speed and forget about it. Engine automatically maintains set
rpm even when conditions and loads change such as an aggressive boat maneuvers, pulling
a water skier, or even just maintaining the lowest planing speed. Increased throttle
responsiveness is an added benefit
Provides outstanding throttle feel while maintaining the desired engine rpm in all
operating conditions. Electronic throttle responds instantly to operator input
Electronic Multi-Port Fuel Injection Precisely delivers the exact amount
of fuel for all driving conditions Reliable, consistent starts
Increased fuel efficiency Reduced cost of operation
Better throttle response
