WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT FROM YOUR AUDIENCE FEEDBACK?

Question 3

Page 2: What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

SurveymonkeyWe posted a survey on www.surveymonkey.com as it is a quick, reliable easy way to gather feedback.

SURVEYMONKEY..

‘none, I think the actors and locations were extremely well matched to the indie genre. also the 'non performance' shots were great examples of conventions within the indie genre.’

‘put more stereotypes and maybe simpler backgrounds for the performance’

‘Might be issues with 'glamorisation' of smoking’

‘I would have equaled out all the different styles of shot so that each sort is vaguely equal (performance (of band members), non-performance (skating, fixie & long exposure)) under influence of the location.’

‘same fast editing throughout’

‘Make the editing flow better using different editing’

We included one open question at the bottom of our survey, as our previous survey had included lots of open questions but a lot of the responses were inappropriate ad irrelevant. Below are a selection of some of the responses we received.

SURVEYMONKEY...‘Brilliant video, can't say enough good things about it, honestly :D it's the best one I've seen this year My only gripe is the quality of the slow-mo skateboarding scenes doesn't match the quality of the other shots. But that's less your fault and more the fault of the college cameras. It'd look a lot better if it was in full super slow-mo I reckon. The location of the band scene is perfect for what you were trying to do with the indie genre, and the non-live shots were a bit hit-and-miss; some looked staged and some looked natural. I'd say the natural ones worked better because they gave me more of a feel for the band you created. And whereas all of the shots were good (especially Sam in a bush), some of them didn't last enough time for me to figure out what was going on, which was a shame because I know you spent a lot of time storyboarding them and ensuring each shot had a purpose.’

We found SurveyMonkey to be a brilliant way to quickly gather feedback in one place. It allowed friends from Facebook or random viewers on Youtube to give us anonymous feedback on our video so we could evaluate our product based upon its effectiveness of conforming to the indie genre. In our closed questions, we never scored anything lower than a 3. This shows that everybody who took our SurveyMonkey felt that there was at least an average use of things such as indie costumes or locations relating to the indie genre. Our open questions allowed us to evaluate further through some constructive feedback such as the detailed comment above which allows us to improve on certain things, such as the length of shots-which allows us to learn from potential mistakes and improve in any future projectsOverall, SurveyMonkey has allowed us to gather 16 unbiased anonymous opinions on our product.

YOUTUBE

Another way in which we learnt from audience feedback was a small feature of ‘likes’ on youtube. Viewers can choose to like or dislike or video. This isn’t necessarily an effect form of feedback but it does allow us to get a general consensus on how the feedback is being received by Youtube. In our case, it is a positive feedback form as we received 5 likes from our 401 views

FACEBOOKAll members of our group posted the video on their separate Facebook which allowed us to get the video out to over 2000 people combined. People could also comment or like the video which also allowed for feedback. However the feedback that we received wasn’t very evaluative and was general congratulations on producing a music video. We therefore didn’t learn much from Facebook feedback, apart from spreading the video about and getting friends talking about it and sharing our youtube link where more in depth feedback could be given through SurveyMonkey

CONCLUSION

Bringing all our audience feedback platforms together it is easy to conclude that SurveyMonkey was the best way to gather feedback

One of the points made within SurveyMonkey is that the shots should be equal in length and the same pace editing throughout. However we decided to vary the lengths and pace of shots to match the song

The quality of the slow-mo skating shots compared to the rest of the shots was an issue raised, however due to the time scale we had, it was hard to perfect them as we had already spent more time than originally planned on them
