TRANSCRIPT
What do you do with 3,500+ plastic eggs sitting in boxes,
unused since Easter events were cancelled this spring? Put
some Halloween themed stickers on them and come up
with a new activity called EGGtober!
Families could buy up to 5 dozen eggs filled with candy,
stickers and toys, and then on October 26th and 28th, we
split up into Boo Crew teams across the county, and hid
them in their yards so their children could go on a
Halloween hunt!
So many families told us how much fun they had and they
shared lots of photos from the spooky search!
Here are some comments we received from
parents on social media about EGGtober.
“I’d say Spartanburg Parks knocked it out of the park with
their EGGtober idea! My kids loved it! Spooky spiders,
terrifying toys, and sugary sweets put a smiles on everyone’s
face!”
“Thanks to the Spartanburg Parks Boo Crew for helping us
kick off Halloween week right with a spooky little egg hunt.”
“OMG My girls went nuts when they saw the eggs! They
want to do this every year. Your staff did an awesome job
hiding them. Thanks for helping make a memorable
Halloween after all we’ve been through this year.”
“My girls really enjoyed finding all the eggs and they’ve
been hidden and found multiple times since then!”
Spartanburg Parks
Many people are practicing safe social distancing and
still enjoying time outside in our parks. They’re using
#spartanburgparks to share their favorite moments.

A few Mentos, a few Coke bottles… and a whole lot
of learning! Our after-school program participants at
Duncan Elementary had so much fun watching what
happens when you drop the candies into the soda.
We’ll call it a socially distanced science study!
The after-school program participants at Holly
Springs-Motlow Elementary had spooky
celebrations all month long, with lots of
Halloween themed activities, including bat
snacks and monster slime.
The ACE program at Inman Elementary and
Inman Intermediate Schools was all about
pumpkins this month!
They painted them...
They made them out of beads...
The Woodruff Leisure Center ACE program kept
the frightening festivities going with monster
mouth snacks and a Halloween carnival.
They also spent some time outside “fore” some golf
lessons and had a tee-rific time! We want to give a
special shoutout to Robby Anders and Kyle Hardin,
who normally work at Cleveland Park, for coming
out to Woodruff to teach the children all about golf.
Ready… Set… Ride those bikes! Our BMX track at North
Spartanburg Park has become quite popular lately,
thanks to our partnership with Spartanburg BMX.
They run programs, races and events, as well as maintain
the track. Here are a few photos from one of the
October races.
We said goodbye to Caroline Nyvall this month,
who was part of our team for nearly a decade.
Caroline helped run our Youth Development
program and will be missed. We wish her the best
of luck in her new endeavor outside Spartanburg
County!
