• IB exams are scored on a scale of 1 (lowest) to 7 (highest)
• 45 is the maximum number of points awarded. Six grade 7’s + 3 bonus points for A’s on Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge papers.
• The final subject grade is a combination of the internal assessment (IA) grade and the external assessment (exam/EA).
• Depending upon the subject, the IA grade is 20-50% of the final grade.
Candidates must:• Test in all six areas
• Register for 3 HL (higher level) and 3 SL (standard level) exams, can register for 4 HL
• Score a minimum of 24 points (at least 12 points in HL, 16 pts if testing 4 HLs)
• Fulfill CAS, Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge (ToK) requirements.
• An “E” grade for either ToK or EE increases the minimum point total to 28 points.
• An “E” grade in both ToK and EE is an automatic failingcondition, regardless of point total.
For scores 24-27• Minimum of 12 pts (HL) and
9 pts (SL).
• No grade 1 in any subject.
• No more than three (3) grade 3s.
• No less than a grade 3 in any HL.
• No more than one (1) grade 2 in an SL.
For scores 28 +• Minimum of 11 pts
(HL) and 8 pts (SL).
• No grade 1 in any subject.
• No more than three (3) grade 3’s.
• No more than one (1) grade 2 in any HL.
• No more than two (2) grade 2’s in an SL.
• Diploma candidates may sit for all six exams in their senior year [one available now].
• Anticipated candidates (juniors) may sit for up to one exam [at present]. *If you are taking the following subject, you MUST test this year: Business and Management
• Course candidates may sit for exams during the normal assessment year. All are recommended for senior year [unless in Biz].
• Candidates should choose their strongest subjects for their HL exams.
• Any subject combination is acceptable as long as there is one subject from each group and there are at least 3 HL’s and corresponding number (3) of SL’s to make total = 6 IB exams.
• Candidates should think about their strengths and talk with their teachers and IB counselor(s).
• Candidates can take an HL class for two years and still test SL if we offer the SL course and you still fulfill the 3 HL requirement for the DP.
