“These innovations drastically change the course by which users connect, engage, and relate with the world and transform society.”
Are iDevices Disruptive Technology?

Students are more engaged using this technology in the classroom. There is little classroom disruption.
Are iDevices Disruptive Technology?

Teacher CommentsStudents today process information differently. The combination of visual input along with tactile control keeps students focused on their objective. Brain research shows is easier for students to absorb information presented in smaller chunks. Kids have grown up with these devices and what seems new and different for us, is second nature to them. It's presenting information to them in "their language."

Teacher CommentsScholars will persevere through a more difficult problem with the iDevice. For example, money is a difficult concept for most second grade scholars, but using the app Jungle Coins - with a guided response sheet, scholars were more interested in learning the coins, and then for differentiation, the levels in the game could be changed so that each scholar could work at their pace and level. Scholars were focused and engaged for a solid 45 minute period with practice in coin value, comparing values, and making change.

Teacher CommentsI have only my own iPad in my classroom at this time and "Oh my!" The response from my students is truly amazing! I teach students with severe cognitive impairment. They have taken to the iPad like it is a comfortable and favored old friend. They are at ease navigating around a variety of pages. The majority of my students are able to get in and out of apps and have taught themselves (underline "taught themselves") to work within the various apps.
![Page 10: “What can I do with these devices that would be impossible to do without them?” Jennie Magiera](https://reader038.vdocuments.site/reader038/viewer/2022110105/568142f6550346895daf4f32/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
Teacher CommentsMy young students with special needs (autism and language delayed) find success easily and catch onto concepts quicker when they use iPad and iTouch. These devices give the children another opportunity to practice skills in a way that keeps their attention and provides a very visual avenue for reinforcing previous learning as well as new learning.

Student CommentsIt was fun not looking in textbooks for answers but using modern day technology to find it so you can't feel bored because there is technology.
This is a good thing to do for education purposes in science class.
![Page 16: “What can I do with these devices that would be impossible to do without them?” Jennie Magiera](https://reader038.vdocuments.site/reader038/viewer/2022110105/568142f6550346895daf4f32/html5/thumbnails/16.jpg)
Student CommentsYeah! I love using the iPad - it's way better than using boring text books:)
I love using the iTouch, because it helps me comprehend and understand more information about topics that we learn in school.

Teacher CommentsStudents are extremely engaged. I find that it helps them with their writing. I have students use the iPad to respond to class blogs. Kids are more apt to "write" using an iPad than with pencil/paper and I don't have the "I don't know what to write" responses that I normally receive with a standard writing assessment.

Student Comments
I liked it because we aren't wasting paper and we didn't have to write in cursive.
I like the iPad, it was really fun, it was better than a pencil.

Teacher CommentsMy students have produced higher quality products when assisted by the iPod Touch devices than without. Their writing and communication skills have been enhanced. My students are more engaged the moment the iPods are mentioned and therefore there is an increased time on task. This by itself increases their achievement.

Teacher Comments"My students were extremely excited to demonstrate how they found geometry in everyday life by using the iPod Touch to take pictures and create a video. I observed a deeper understanding of geometry as I listened to the students describe shapes and figures on their videos.”

I love working with SonicPics and putting my work on YouTube.
I had a good time on the iPad because we were making a book .

Student CommentsI think the iPad is a fun and creative way of learning. I would love to do this again.
Makes learning more fun and rather exciting. Also is better because you don't use as much paper.

Teacher CommentsStudents are extremely engaged from the moment they know iPads are going to be used. Because of the engagement, I see more effective feedback and input from students that shows they have grasped concepts and can apply them - more than I typically see with paper and pencil assignments.

Teacher CommentsI enjoyed working with the children while they used the iPads. They were 100% engaged.
Two classes are usually less attentive, however during our hour together, all students were engaged in all parts of the lesson.

I have seen that these devices engage students and hold their focus for a longer period of time than some other methods, particularly when it comes to "skills-based" practice (i.e.: memorizing math facts).

Teacher CommentsThere are excellent apps that help students practice visual/spatial thinking, logical thinking, and other higher-level thinking skills. The devices are also a great way to offer differentiated products that showcase student learning.

My students have used PhotoCard Lite, StoryKit, Animoto, Type Drawing, and SonicPics this year to create products that reflect their learning.
