1. What are your principle areas of academic interest? What are your career goals? (25-250 words)I have always had an innatefascination with science. Both of my parents hold Ph.D.'s inthe field and have encouraged me to pursue my interests. This dream has been reflected in my dabbling in AP Physics and AP Chemistry. Both classes, but especially Physics, have prepared me for the ultimate endeavor of attaining a degree in Computer Science. Following graduation, I hope to find employment as aComputerProgrammer.When I do, I will be following in the footsteps of my father, who is also a self-taught Computer Programmer. 2. What are your areas of interest and involvement in and outside of school? (25-250 words)I enjoy performing quality music, whether at school in the Orchestra or at home with a private tutor. I have been a violin player in the PBHS Instrumental Music Department for three out of the four years of my high school career. During these years, the Orchestra has grown from a measly twenty members when I first joined in the fall of 2011 to over sixty-five members in the spring of 2014. We made it to the State festival in 2012 and hope for a repeat this year. Outside of school, I practice my Piano skills with an instructor who has taught me for over seven years. Through the course of this journey, I have performed in numerous recitals and for three different nursing homes. I am also a prolific writer of fan-fiction and am currently writing on a blog for teenagers to promote a love of reading.3. What service and leadership experience have you engaged through school or the community? (25-250 words)My passion for reading has led me to volunteer time to foster increased literacy among children, teens and adults. I recently worked as a Summer Reading promoter at my local public library. My job was to sign up children for the Summer Reading program, which rewarded them for their interest. The program helped to entice dozens of youngsters. When I wasnt helping in that area, I was stocking the shelves with books or packaging books for the book sale. Both tasks encouraged people of all ages to make the library the new place to be. In this age of technology, it is also important to utilize such advances to disseminate information. I am interning with a writing company run by teens called InIt For the Long Scrawl that specializes in creating compositions targeted at teens that use social media. Each month, we submit our pieces onto Tumblr, which allows us to reach a vast audience. The hope is that through the publication of stories written by their peers, more teens will learn to appreciate the power that literacy can bring.
