Large scale development – impacts - natural environment

The vegetation will be cleared in order to build tourist facilities such as hotels which will destroy the wildlife habitats and the food supply. This reduce the number of wildlife such as birds to the area as they will migrate to another area.

Tourists may drop litter on the beach which will make it look ugly but also could affect wildlife as animals may try and feed eat it and it may get stuck inside them such as plastics and metal and kill them or poison them such as batteries.

The sewage caused by a large amount of tourists may be pumped into the sea which will pollute the water and damage the marine ecosystem by poisoning fish.

Large buildings may be an eye sore and damage the natural beauty of the area.

They damage coral reefs by walking on them and breaking bits off for souvenirs which kills the coral and decreases the ecosystem it supports.

Demand for water will increase so it will drain the natural environment which will decease the amount of lush vegetation supporting the wildlife ecosystem.

How would you answer this question if it asked about the economic impacts?

PositivesTourists spend money on hotels and souvenirs which improves the local economy by increasing the profits of local businesses so they can expand. This attracts other businesses to the area and increases job opportunities.

Negatives.Jobs are low paid and seasonal because ........Most of the profits go to large companies from developed countries for example ...........
