2. Bilingualism in general has been shown to have mental benefits such as delaying the onset of dementia. 3. Learning any language is beneficial, but if you learn Cornish in Cornwall you can use it? 4. Language is the primary index, or symbol, or register of identity (Crystal 2000:40) 5. The Cornish language is a part of a Cornish speaker's identity. 6. Language is the road map of a culture. It tells you where its people come from and where they are going. Rita Mae Brown 7. As a child I walked in a landscape of strange names. It never occurred to me that these names had meanings. 13. Being able to instantly recognise place makes it a lot more interesting when you're out and about and can actually understand where you're headed! 14. You can understand the words all around you - on the street signs, on the maps, etc. 15. Knowing Cornish makes literature (past and present) in Cornish accessible. 16. Cornish is a pathway language into other, wider spoken languages: Breton and Welsh. 17. Learning Cornish supports and restores long-standing ethno-cultural, social and linguistic connections between Cornwall, Wales and Brittany. 18. It brings the past alive, especially if you have Cornish ancestors. 19. An opportunity to form a direct connection with ones Cornish ancestors and speak as they spoke. 20.
