Steeple Bell Choral Introit Call to Worship: (Psalm 22)

You who worship God, praise the Lord! In the midst of the congregation we will praise you!

All the ends of the earth shall turn to the Lord. All the families of the nations shall worship you,

for dominion belongs to God!

CCLI #2248895 Used by permission

*Hymn: “What a Mighty God We Serve”

*Prayer of Adoration *The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven,

hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done,

on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread;

and forgive us our debts,

as we forgive our debtors;

and lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom and the power

and the glory, forever. Amen.

Call to Confession Prayer of Confession

God of steadfast love,

we confess to you our unworthiness of your love.

Instead of sacrificing, we promote ourselves.

Instead of giving, we hoard our blessings.

Too often we claim our faith in Christ

as a badge to wear instead of a cross to bear,

avoiding the costly acts that bear your grace.

Have mercy on us, O God.

Teach us to follow in the path of Christ.

Through your Spirit give us grace

to serve our neighbors as ourselves

and to glorify you through faith in Jesus Christ.

(silent prayers)

23You who fear the LORD, praise him! All you offspring of Jacob, glorify him; stand in awe of him, all you offspring of Israel! 24For he did not despise or abhor the affliction of the afflicted; he did not hide his face from me, but heard when I cried to him.

Refrain

25From you comes my praise in the great congregation; my vows I will pay before those who fear him. 26The poor shall eat and be satisfied; those who seek him shall praise the LORD. May your hearts live for ever! 27All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn to the LORD; and all the families of the nations shall worship before him. 28For dominion belongs to the LORD, and he rules over the nations.

Refrain 29To God, indeed, shall all who sleep in the earth bow down; before him shall bow all who go down to the dust, and I shall live for him. 30Posterity will serve him; future generations will be told about the Lord, 31and proclaim his deliverance to a people yet unborn, saying that he has done it.

Scripture Conversation Epistle Lesson: Romans 4:13-25 Page: NT 155 Sermon “Hope Against Hope”

*Hymn: #488 “The God of Abraham Praise”

*An Affirmation of Faith: The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven

and earth. And in Jesus Christ, his only Son our Lord;

who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin

Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead,

and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose

again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth

on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from

thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I

believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the

communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the

resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

International Supper

Travel around the world and never leave the New Castle Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall! The Youth of our

congregation invite you to join them on March 29 at 5:30 pm as our fellowship hall is transformed into an international

bistro for the evening. Each course of the meal served will be from a different part of the world. Everything will be

provided and you will be served by members of the Youth Fellowship. You are asked to donate the price of a

comparable restaurant meal. All proceeds will help our youth attend the Montreat Youth Conference this July.

Enjoy a nice evening out in fellowship with church members, and support our youth program, all at the same

time. Reservations can be made at the sign-up sheet in the fellowship hall or by calling the church office: 328-3279.

Special Gift Donation--Honduras No electricity, no indoor plumbing, sleeping on the ground, one source of water from a hose and trekking up and down a mountainside every day. No, this not a reminder of how our pioneer ancestors lived, this is how our deacon, Annie Sotomayor, lived for one week in a mountaintop village in Honduras! She was acting as a translator for doctors and others who traveled to the Honduras offering medical care to the men, women and children of villages in this area. We would like to extend a very special thank you to Annie Sotomayor for her inspirational and heartwarming stories and pictures from her mission trip to Honduras at our annual Valentine's Brunch. Annie went to Honduras as part of a delegation from an authorized mission program from Presbyterian Church USA known as Community Development/Delegation And Mission Education Coordination, Honduras. Gloria and Tim Wheeler have been under appointment by Presbyterian Church USA since 1990 and have served this program since then. Tim serves as a regional director for the Heifer Project and Gloria coordinates study tours and mission team visits from the US. Some teams work in an urban setting, others work with one of the 20 local Heifer partners and others travel to Western Honduras to help Chorti-Mayan people build homes.

As we learned from Annie's presentation, much worthwhile work is being done in this area. If you would like to make a donation to this valuable mission program, please find a "decorated" envelope in your pew and make your donation. We will accept both cash and checks. Please make your check payable to New Castle Presbyterian Church and put E200423 on the memo line. (This is the ID number for this mission at PC USA). We would also like to thank the members of the congregation for bringing all the wonderful food that we were able to share and for all the help with setting up and cleaning up. "Many hands make light the work."

To the Congregation:

What a great job you are doing! You have been seen greeting newcomers who are seated near you, inviting them to join you at coffee hour, engaging them in conversation, introducing them to other members. You are seeking out our visitors at coffee hour and letting them know we are glad they chose to visit. These are the things each one of us should do. In fact, you are being the welcoming, friendly church that Jesus admonishes us to be. Thank you. Hospitality Committee

Sharing Loaves & Fishes

In this time of global recession, jobs are disappearing, house values are shrinking and food prices are rising. No surprise that more folks than ever need basic supplies to endure. That’s why the Mission and Outreach Committee of the New Castle Presbyterian Church has partnered with Meeting Ground, of Elkton, Maryland, to provide much-needed assistance to those in need. The non-profit mission, supported by congregations and individuals from the region, provides the most basic of needs: toilet paper, canned food, soap, vegetables, diapers and linens. The need is severe as the United States sees its economy shrink to extremes not seen since the Great Depression. Those who used to have good-paying jobs are now at the social services office applying for food stamps and Medicaid. Those who used to give to the food bank are now in line for beans and rice. Those who sit among us may now need our help.

Indeed, the U.S. Conference of Mayors Hunger and Homelessness Survey reports a 12 percent increase in homelessness from 2007 to 2008. Poverty, unemployment and the lack of affordable housing means that emergency food assistance is on the rise. For about three decades, Meeting Ground has fed Cecil County’s neediest residents. The organization needs all to help continue its mission to feed the needy. That’s why our Mission and Outreach Committee is sharing what we have with the less fortunate. To get involved, ask Janet Spring or others on the committee.
