The 2010 Quakeysense IJSBA World Finals went off in a big way this October at Lake Havasu, Arizona. Every year it seems to grow closer to a true “World” event with an ever increasing international contingent, each with their own style and speed secrets. This year champions were crowned from all over the globe including France, USA, Sweden, Canada, Japan, Russia and many other far off regions. The racing was fi erce, the track was insane and the weather was perfect for what could only be called one of the best world fi nals in years.

Out of the gates, this year’s crop of youngsters were on display for the whole world to see, and they put on a show that brought the bleachers to their feet. A truly international fi eld, the kid shredders rode their eighty pound butts off all the way through the checkered fl ags. Friends and family cheered and race team owners got a glimpse of the future. That future looks bright for Estonia’s Markus Lutsokert now that he has a world championship under his belt in the Junior Ski 13–15 Limited class. This is the stepping stone class for all future novice, expert and pro racers and Markus

will go out on top, ready for the challenge. Also looking really strong and taking second place just behind Lutsokert was Team Fazza’s Almur Bin Huraiz from Dubai on his slick black Hydrospace machine. Those two, along with third place rider Toshi “the Samurai” Ohara from Japan, went nuts on the racecourse while fans went nuts in the crowd. Rounding the top fi ve and battling it out to the very end were fourth place Luke ‘the Iceman” Day of Australia and USA’s Alec Hollandell in fi fth. Look out world, these kids are coming!

on slightly modifi ed and similar handling craft and lined up for six laps of mayhem. After the fi reworks settled in the post race technical inspection area it was Riverside, CA’s Tyler Hill making mom and dad proud with a fat number one plate. Tyler worked very hard aboard his Sea Doo for his win against Texas’ Joseph Roberts who was all over him on a Sims Racing prepped HX. With Joseph claiming second place the race for third was epic as fellow Texan Curtis Reinburg went back and forth with two Yamaha mounted riders Casey Mauldin and Craig Woodberry. Things got dicey, but Reinburg was able to eek ahead of Mauldin’s immaculate Image Pro Designs Blaster for third as Woodberry brought it home in fi fth.

As the weekend rolled in there was a defi nate change in the atmosphere, both in the stands and in the pits. It was time to break out the big guns and satisfy the need for speed. Like an answer to the call, fi rst up came Ski GP. Outrageously loud and insanely fast, these monster

machines have no limits; it’s run what you brung, and let’s see what you’ve got. Past champion Mike Klippenstien made the trek all the way from Fort McMurray, Canada to lay the smack down on his red and black # 1 star boat. The Klipper was on fi re, and had to be to fend off the hard charging Austrian Kevin Reiterer aboard his signature black Hydro. By the fi nal laps the crowd was on its feet as both riders took different splits only to merge with nailbiting elbow to elbow drag races. Klipper looked relieved as he took the checkered in front of a determined K-Ret in what was easily one of the best races of the Finals. Although they were in an entirely different race of their own,

As always, Expert Ski Limited was one of the most competetive races of the week and this year’s champion had to fi ght off some long time heavy hitters for the crown. Hometown hero Brandon McMillan rode the rails off his Queen Racing / Walt’s Motorsports Hydro and showed the boys and girls how its done. His sparkle orange ski looked like the great pumpkin as he checked out early and never looked back. If he would have, he would have seen a fi erce four way battle raging behind him between Belgium’s Quinten Bossche, American Jake Zier, female phenom Anya Colley and Dubai’s Omar Alrashid. With similar powerplants the action was tight and the laps went fast. As the water settled it was Bossche in second, Zier third, Alrashid taking fourth and Anya limping in her smoking ride for fi fth.

The fastest expert level riders settle their scores in the Open classes. Make no mistake these racers will be the next pros and they are dead serious in their efforts to secure a world title on their way out of the amateur ranks. Pantus Andersson of Sweden piloted his Park Dog sponsored ski to the winner’s circle in Amateur Ski Open and served notice that he was the man to beat in 2010. Second place rider Tiago Geitens was also on the gas aboard his Blowsion prepped Hydrospace as was Indiana native Jake Zier taking third on his DZ Racing thumper. United Kingdom’s doll Anya Colley and Hungarian hot shot Gabor Satbo fi lled out the gang with top four and fi ve fi nishes respectively.

By far the most talked about and controversial class of the week had to be Sport Spec. A class that was intended to be cheap and fun, is all that and then some! Shadetree mechanics and pro engine builders alike worked their magic

909, did not race in the fi nals. After winning his heat race, the champ made an ill advised decision to race in the LCQ and requalify a different craft - and that’s when disaster struck. Craig’s Factory Monster Kawasaki machine broke! That left the door wide open for a host of heavy hitters with big horsepower to claim the throne. Aptly, it was “King D” Dustin Farthing who trounced the competition aboard his Mountain Motorsports/ Kawasaki sponsored beast and claimed the crown. Farthing checked out and was long gone by the halfway point which left another Dustin, Charrier to battle it out for the runner up spot on his Riva prepped Yamaha triple. Nabbing a sweet third place was the United Kingdom’s James Bushell on a Sea Doo followed closely by the pair of Yamaha’s of John Hecox and Trey Frame. It was a long race that truly pushed man and machine to the limits of speed and endurance while showcasing the various manufacturers latest toys.

Pro Ski is and has always been the class to watch at Finals for the sheer entertainment value provided by world class athletes on the coolest, fastest machines ever to have a handlepole. As we enter a new decade of racing some things change and some things remain the same. Representing change is the new crop of young international riders that have been making their mark on the Europian and Japanese tours like Reiterer, Kurahashi, Botti, Bossche and many other seriously fast riders. Reppin’ the old school were the usual suspects like MacCluggage, Flores, Rius, Lawrence and a gang of Havasu regulars, all with their sights on the World Title. As the two card went up so did the fans to get a better view of the action. Two...One.. Sideways...Snap! In a spray of jetwash and a buzz of exhaust, the race was on and the elbows were out. Chris MacCluggage looked beyond strong aboard his all black Macc Racing / Bullet prepped SXR based ride and many thought the championship was his for the taking until a huge dismount left him swimming for his ski as the title

Kurahashi Yuki, Ronny “smurf” Mangerud and Jake Barker still had their hands full battling it out for third, fourth and fi fth in that order.

There’s nothing better than a catfi ght in wetsuits and helmets on the water, and the ladies of Women’s Pro Ski Limited delivered the goods in spades once again. The queen bee, Emi Kanamori backed up her 2008 championship with another big win at Havasu in convincing fashion. While many thought her Factory Kawasaki prepped SXR could not outrun the Hydrospaces on such a large, wide open track, she romped away with two big holeshots to victory aboard the # 600 machine. With Emi’s smooth style, tiny stature and unstoppable stamina, the real race was for second place and beyond. Scratching her way to a second place fi nish was another Japanese SXR mounted rider Enami Ishikama who had a hard charging Aussie on her tail. Kylie Elmers rode her heart out and made her bid for the spot, but Enami shut the door to fi nish just ahead of Elmers who earned a hard third. Kommander Industries’ Lisa Barsbey fi nished fourth while Quakeysense equipped Anya Colley came in fi fth.

Few things on this Earth are quite like a World Championship Pro Runabout Open race. Nowadays, a Runabout is a three seater, fuel injected, spooled up missile and the start alone is worth the price of admission. Twenty sit down craft hopped up on steroids and about to blow up, piloted by insaniacs who have no problem going into turn one blinded by the spray at 70 plus MPH makes for some great racing. With the throaty roar of the four stoke engines and the crackling, popping sounds of the turbos its not only a sight to see but an aural assault similar to an NHRA Drag race event. The drama always seems to follow this class around like a dark cloud, and this year was no different. Arguably one of the favorites and then current reining World Champion Craig Warner, the pride of the


slipped away. With Macc off the pace, it was all about Jean Baptiste Botti from France on the Tech One / Quakeysense sponsored Hydrospace who had to hold off a late race charge from 2009 World Champ Kevin Reiterer. K-Ret was on the hunt, but Botti had plenty of speed of his own and had it covered. As the checkered fl ags fl ew, it was Botti with the gold, Reiterer taking the silver, and MacCluggage recovering for a heartbreaking bronze. With so many fast riders in this class its hard to stop with just the top three and not mention some of the shining stars of the sport. Fourth and fi fth place went out to Japan’s Kurahashi Yuki and USA’s Rob Flores respectively while a mob of riders fought it out for the remaining fi nish positions. In the battle of the pack were notables Mike Klippenstien in 6th, Rick Sherker taking 7th, and Norway’s superfast Yamaha rider Ronny Mangerud working his way up to 8th. Filling out the top ten and giving their sponsors something to cheer about were 9th place Bill Haig and Kommander’s wonderkid David Redinger in the 10th position.

Once a year in October the world’s best amateur and pro freestylers battle it out on the water in what has become not only a show of fl ashy tricks and backfl ips, but a kind of presentation time for the newest and hottest watercraft parts, paint and accessories. With the new B.O.B. (Backfl ip on a Budget) ski, the super cool Rickter ride and all the RRP stuff all being tossed around on the lake its a jet ski junkie’s dream. In Amateur Freestyle Alexander Kuramsmin came all the way from Kazan, Russia and layed the smack down against the rest of the world on his way to fi rst place. Alex was in the zone as he busted out all the tricks with precision and style. Hailing from England and taking second place was Jack Moule while Vaclav Zacek broke out of the CZzech Republic to claim third. In the Pro Freestyle wars it was youngster Lee Stone from Chesterfi eld, UK on the new 1200 CC EME Q8 SKY and HydroTurf sponsored ride pulling off the big win. Lee was all business throwing out multiple backfl ips, barrel rolls, supermans and every other variation in his own fl ashy and friendly style. Japan’s Fumikazu Watanabe looked way cool in his brand new Quakeysense gear and fl ung his Superjet around in a stellar routine that earned him a second place fi nish while Rok Florjancic of Slovania wowed the crowd for third. Also looking razor sharp and rounding out the top four was Hiroshi Watanabe representing Hot Products. By the reaction of the fans and the number of entries this year, Freestyle is still a major part of the World Finals and the jet ski scene.

With all the awards handed out and the last of the post race parties in the books, we can look forward to the 2011 IJSBA World Finals next fall. If its anything like this year’s Superbowl of watercraft racing then it will be well worth the wait. Congratulations to Scott Frazier and the IJSBA for once again putting on a truly world class event, and much respect to title Sponsor Quakeysense for making it happen. Its a long, cold winter but when the sun comes out, the skis will hit the water and for many of us, the countdown to World Finals will begin again. The countdown to friends, family and good times may seem long, but its well worth the wait. See you in Havasu 2011.


THE LEGEND KEVIN GREEN ABOVE ALL ODDS

WETRACER: How has the physical impairment affected or challenged you in the sport of watercraft racing?

KEVIN: Physical Impairment wasn’t really a challange for me, it was me racing a stand-up ski sitting down. They’re was alot of talk in the pits and on the beaches. I heard sayings like “look he’s not standing up” that was unvtil they seen the I had lost both my legs.

WETRACER: What was your motivation to ride stand-up skis?

KEVIN: My motivation to riding stand-up started when I raced 3 wheelers in the mid 80’s. 3 wheelers were outlawed in the late 80’s then in the mid 90’s a friend asked if i would like to go to the lake and ride his ski? hmmm sounds like a good idea to me. fi rst time I got on the ski, it felt like me sitting on my 3 wheeler. He showed me where the on/off and throttle was and it was on then, I WAS HOOKED !!

WETRACER: Who was your biggest motivator in the industry that got you involved with watercraft?

KEVIN: I would have to say my biggest motivator in the industry had to be all the racers themselves. I love being around everybody in watercraft racing. Everybody helps everybody. If a racer has a problem, theres a racer with a solution. I’ve seen them go as far as loaning they’re own race boat,$20,000 - $60,000 skis.

WETRACER: In all of your seasons of racing what was your biggest accomplishments?

KEVIN:Through all my years of racing my biggest accomplishments would have to be getting to know all my friends and family of watercraft racing. Next would have to be the ramp. I fi rst seen the ramp and it reminded me of 3 wheeler racing in the 80’s jumping a double or triple. Of course there was controvsey over them letting me go over the ramp with the shape I was in. But eventually they let me and, I think everybody was in awe when they seen how fast I hit the ramp and how far I went.

WETRACER: What has been the worst injury that you have received while riding watercraft?

KEVIN:My worst injury? Out of breaking my leg while I was in Ft. Myars, FL and had to drive all the way back with nothing for pain, then I broke 3 ribs at Cyprus Gardens. But I’d have to say, while competing for my 2nd World Title in 2002 on the ramp jump at the World Finals in Lake Havasu City, AZ, I sailed 92.5 ft through the air before coming to a rough landing where I exploded my L2 vertebre in my back. I was fl own to Vegas where I went through 8

days in the hospital and an extensive surgery to install a titanium cage, but that would not hold me down. 7 months later I was back on the coarse again at the start on the National Tour in Parker, AZ.

WETRACER: Who has been your biggest supporter in the watercraft industry?

KEVIN: My biggest supporter in the watercraft industry would have to be the racers themselves. When I need help they are always there to help.

WETRACER: What do you do to make a living in this current ecnomy and keep racing a part of your lifestyle?

KEVIN: I have my own business “Green’s WaterCraft” repairing jet skis and when thats slow I’m helping my dad repair appliances at “Green’s Appliance”

WETRACER: Where do you see yourself in the industry in the upcoming years?

KEVIN: If things don’t get better in the economy I can’t see myself racing too many more years but I hope to. The sponsors just aren’t out there anymore in our sport like I’d like to see them. I just hope to one day to be put into the Jet Ski Hall of Fame now and pass on my story to inspire young kids and adults too that you can’t give up on your dreams, anythings possible if you set your mind to it.


At midnight on Sunday, November 28th Jettribe’s Team USA came together at the Bangkok International Airport for one more race of the 2010 season, and this race was bigger than anything the racers had seen before! We all piled in a large van that took us to a hotel about an hour away from the airport where we spent the first few nights of our trip. After getting a few hours of sleep the team gathered for breakfast on Monday morning and then headed over to the warehouse of Sam Chaisirivichiean, our Jettribe distributor in Thailand. We couldn’t have been more grateful to have Sam’s warehouse at our disposal. While some of our group worked on the boats to make sure that everything was running perfectly,

the rest of us worked on sorting through the Jettribe merchandise so that it would be ready to be sold at the races that were just a few days away. Sam was even gracious enough to let us use his own private lake so that we could do some test riding with the runabouts!

While in Bangkok, when we weren’t in Sam’s warehouse working on boats and organizing merchandise, we were out doing site seeing at the Grand Temple Palace and eating authentic Thai food, which we couldn’t get enough of! But after a few days in Bangkok it was time to head to the city of Phitsanulok where the race site was located.

On Wednesday we ran into our first major headache of the trip. We were scheduled to make the 5 hour trip to Phitsanulok, but unfortunately the taxi van that was supposed to take our group (11 of us total) had no trunk space so we had to be separated from our luggage for about a day until we could pick it up at the race site when it finally arrived. During our 5 hour trip we had to make a stop to fuel up the van and this was also the first time that we had ever had to use a public bathroom; the girls weren’t very happy about the holes in the ground that were known as toilets. We also experienced Thailand’s version of KFC on our next stop of the trip; surprisingly it was very different from America’s KFC. After arriving in

Phitsanulok we made our way over to the race site to scope things out and we liked what we saw: our own pit area, huge grand stands, and Thailand’s own version of Vendor Alley! What more could we have asked for?!

Thursday was a day of practicing for the racers so that the riders could get acclimated to the race course and unfortunately we experienced our second headache of the trip when one of the runabout’s motors blew; good thing one of Sam’s sisters was able to bring one from the warehouse so that Louis could begin working on the motor later that night. After a few hours of practice we headed back to our hotel to get cleaned up for the opening ceremony. The ceremony was absolutely amazing and we were so impressed with how much work the promoters put into making it an memorable experience for all of the race teams. Our team was even able to meet some of the dignitaries that were at the ceremony.

Friday marked the first day of fiberglass warfare and our team of racers couldn’t be happier to experience the moment that they had all been waiting for: The chance to race on international waters for the first time and to be a part of one of the most prestigious races in the


world! Derek, Christine, and Chelsea raced hard and put up a fight against the other international riders in their racing classes. Saturday and Sunday they, as well as Jeremy, continued to put up a fight during their remaining races. By the end of the race days our team was exhausted but they were glowing with excitement at the fact that they were racing in a foreign country with some of the best racers in the world! Although our team doesn’t always win their races, there couldn’t have been a better team to represent the United States of America in such a positive light.

On Sunday night after the races were over we had to pack up our equipment and get back to the hotel as fast as we could because the roads were going to be closed down for the arrival of the princess. When we finally got back to the hotel we barely had enough time to even change into a clean pair of clothes before we had to rush over to the neighboring building where the closing awards ceremony was to be held. Like the opening ceremony, they really hauled out the red carpet for this occasion…literally! After guards waved their security wands over each of us we were ushered into the beautiful room where we excitedly waited for the princess to arrive to present the King’s Cup awards to the racers who had won the Pro classes. Before the awards ceremony started Tony pulled a few

strings and when the princess was done presenting the King’s Cup awards our team was quickly escorted outside where we waited alongside the red carpet near the princess’s car. While we waited for the princess to come out of the building there were photographers and camera crews with their cameras trained on us! When the princess came out we were able to personally present her with one of our team’s pit shirts and we were even able to talk to her for a minute before she left. We were the only team that was able to personally meet the princess and it was such a high honor for us to be presented with the opportunity!

Despite the fact that we ran into a few problems throughout the week (flat tires, blown motors, and broken steering cables) the trip was still amazing. We also made a ton of new friends and we were so impressed by how friendly and helpful everyone was. Thailand is definitely the “Land of Smiles”! We can’t wait for next year’s race and we’ll be back bigger and better than ever before!

The next stop we made was a trip to Vietnam for a week to show the team our overseas warehouse!

WETRACER:How and when did you fi rst get interested in Jetski’s?

LARRY:1975 I was working as a motorcycle mechanic at a Kawasaki dealership when Doug Silverstein and the Jet Ski test team came through town. A year later I bought one of the fi rst ones we got into the dealership.

WETRACER:What was your fi rst ski?

LARRY:1976 JS400. I think I paid $1,100 for it.

WETRACER:When was your fi rst race?

LARRY: It was a club event in northern California sometime in the late 70’s. This was when you could race on your knees. I got a good start and worked my way backwards toward the rear of the pack. Even though I got smoked, I was hooked.

WETRACER:What is your most memorable race?

LARRY:My fi rst major win. It was the 1981 Hawaiian Invitational Championship held in the big surf on the north shore of Oahu. It was wild. As much as it was a race, it was also a battle to survive. Big waves wiped us all out at one time or another. I came from behind and took the lead on the last lap to win it.

WETRACER:How many World Titles have you won? Racing and Freestyle?

LARRY:2 in Racing & 2 in Freestyle.

WETRACER:Do you miss racing?

LARRY:Yeah, those are some of my best memories. I lived my dream, traveling around the world making a living racing.

WETRACER: Tell us a bit about your career with being a stunt man. How you got into doing that?

LARRY:In 1994 I was contacted by R.A. Rondell, the stunt coordinator for the movie Waterworld. We shot the movie off the big island of Hawaii and I was there for 7 months getting paid in ride Jet Skis and learn how to do other stunts. It was another dream come true for me, as I had always wanted to break into the business. While there I became friends with many of the top stuntmen in Hollywood and that helped me continue advancing as a stuntman once Waterworld ended and I moved to LA.

WETRACER:What movies were you in?

LARRY:Over 60 so far. I’ve been fortunate enough to work in some of the biggest movies made. Titanic, Matrix Reloaded, Fast & Furious, Ironman1&2, etc., and of course a number of Bruce Willis movies. Check me out on www.imdb.com for a full list of everything I’ve been in.

WETRACER:How did you get to be Bruce Willis stunt double?

LARRY:Bruce was looking for a new stunt double on the movie “The Whole Ten Yards”. I was brought in for an audition along with a lot of other guys that could possibly double him. After returning for a number of callbacks, Bruce fi nally picked me and I started with him on that show.

WETRACER:You were critically injured in the making of Live Free or Die Hard. Tell us about what happened.

LARRY:After a month of big stunts we were back in L.A. shooting a fairly tame scene in which I was scrambling down a fi re escape. I have no memory of the accident but what I’m told is that I somehow slipped off the fi re escape and fell roughly 27 feet to my head. It was a long, tough, couple years of recovery but I’m thankful to be back at it.

WETRACER:So I talked with you at World Finals about this Jetski Racing feature fi lm you are making. What can you tell us about it? Who is starring, what is the story line? When will it be in the theaters?

LARRY: It’s called Hot Water and it’s really exciting! I’ve been wanting to make a movie about the world of Jet Ski racing forever. The basic storyline follows a cocky young hotshot jet skier that gets a dream shot on the pro tour. It’s an action/comedy and we’re going to shoot it during the summer of 2011.

WETRACER:Where do you see the future of jetskiing?

LARRY: I’m not sure, but I know my movie will help build some momentum.

WETRACER:What are your plans for the future?

LARRY:With the completion of Hot Water I plan on continuing my transition into producing and directing. I have several other scripts in the works as well as a sequel to Hot Water if it does as well as I’m confi dent it will.

KRAShThe hull is 2m in length but I can give u the rest of the overall dimensions in the morning. There are 2 composites for our surf hull that are both resin infused using vinyl ester resins the glass composite consisting of double bias and biaxial glass and weighing 42kg and a carbon Kevlar core com-posite weighing in at 30 kg which comes with weighted sponsons to take the weight back up to 40 kg for your big surf days the light weight set of sponsons for small surf and some fl at water, all of the hulls are weighed fully assembled with footwells fi tted hood on and the sponsons fi tted. Other features are a 3 inch wider tray than a super jet nozzle set 2 inches further out the back 2 ½ inch larger engine bay. Water outlets both come out the exhaust side of the engine bay fi rewall, the pole is set 4 inches further forward than a stock SJ and the engine is set in the centre of your footwells and pole bracket to give you a more balanced ride and enabling you to do 360 fl at spins. More rocker in the nose of the ski to prevent nose diving while surf riding, more introduction in the intake area as well as being wider and taking a custom intake grate to give you the best hook up in the surf as well as custom front sponsons for ultimate handling when surf riding that tapers in to the tail and

extended rails at the back for larger surface area to ride away from tricks.

MATRIX Pro (Carbon/Kevlar Epoxy Resin Hull) $8499.99 weight: 80 lbs

Our MATRIX Pro hull construction process comes from our extensive knowledge in aero-space technology. We start with an epoxy primer providing a light and fracture resistant sur-face. Next we precisely laminate our hull. A combination of carbon fi ber and Kevlar fabrics are placed in molds engineered exactly to specifi cations. Composite fabrics are infused with aerospace grade high temperature epoxy resin. This resin provides a higher tensile strength than any other available today. The fi nal step in lamination is to vacuum bag our components.This provides laminate consolidation resulting in a lighter and stronger product. Once the components are fully cured they are removed from the mold and inspected. The components are then glued together with the best methacrylate structural adhesive and secured with quality hardware. Using this controlled process we are able to ensure that every MATRIX hull is of the same caliber as the next.

The ROK hull is 80”L x 29”W x 21”H and is available in two versions. The fi rst is fi berglass lay up, which consists of a hand laid combination of CSM, biaxial stitched fabric, and woven cloth. High quality vinylester resin is used, with tooling gel coat for the surface fi nish. The weight of the fi berglass hull is 85 pounds. The second is a carbon fi ber lay up, which consists of only the highest quality IM7 carbon fabric, along with both vinylester and epoxy resin op-tions, in a VARTM process. This results in very high strength and low weight, 55 pound hull. All the thread inserts are stainless steel. The hulls are foamed with high quality expanding polyurethane 2 pound density foam that is used by the US Coast Guard on the cutter boats, and will not absorb water, even over a long period of direct exposure. Every hull comes complete with all hardware. Fiberglass pricing is $3995.00, and carbon fi ber $5495.
