B S FROM THE BUSH – NOV 2018
Is everyone ready for Christmas? It is not far off now and I have been working on our entertainment area as we are
having all the family here for Christmas. With the family getting smaller, it all becomes a little easier. Photos will
follow (stay tuned) but it requires a lot of digging and laying pavers, bloody hard work and tired muscles to prove it.
I am trying to get it done before the hot weather comes but I think I have missed that as today it will be 36 degrees,
the past week it has been above 30. Also this month, I have been told we have had over 60mm rain and that leads to
the first photo of our pet goat trying to eat all the weeds which have grown so quickly which means we have to do
the mowing which we have not done for over a year.
We had a blind Olympic Equestion rider visit Wellington named Sue-Ellen Lovet. It was part of a 16 day ride around
the area collecting money for an addition to the Dubbo hospital. The Lions put on a trivia night and then fed them
whilst they stayed at the showground with the horses. We managed to raise $1600, She raised around $60,000 on
the full trip.
Another exciting evening was a Chinese night in Wellington. There was a Chinese family called Lee (ya, right) in
Wellington way back in time (please excuse the exact date). There was a small lane named in thier honour and the
local arts group organised this event, decorated the lane, had food stalls and put on other activities. There were
about 10 food stalls of different nationalities. So many people turned up they had all sold out within 2 hrs, but the
People stayed around and was a very good, friendly night.
As I started with the topic of Christmas I will finish with it. I was diappointed with the club not having a mid-year
Christmas party and it looks as though there is not going to be an actual party at Christmas. Is it time for some other
members stand up and offer to do things for the club. Its not hard to orangise a party, pick up the phone, book the
site, whack a poster up in the club house and advertise it. Give it a go, you might get something from it, who knows.
Cheers, Ken

Thankyou Acknowledgement
Recently, a donation for $50 was given by Denis Keane to be applied to The Mt Druitt Childrens Ward Charity that we conduct yearly. Nothing unusual so far but there is a twist; the donation was given to Denis by the President of Ashfield RSL Kevin Connelly, O.A.M.J.P. It seems that Denis had done something for his friend Kevin and refused any financial benefit but as Kevin was insistent Denis suggested that he donate the fee to our charity. Well done and thanks Denis, the donation is greatly appreciated and has been added to the charity balance.
Members Welfare
Our member’s welfare is important to our club. Please let me know if you or someone you know is unwell, or
worse still no longer with us. Let me know at email address [email protected] If anyone is missed be assured that the good wishes and sympathies of our Club are with you and your
Family.
For October, I am pleased to report that no get well cards have had to be sent by your club. However, on a sad note we must mark the passing of Wayne Hipwell. Wayne was a long term member of
our club and a sympathy card was sent to his wife, Helen. Wayne’s death was unexpected and we extend
our sympathy to his family in their time of grief.

Meet a member With so many members and the different
days members attend, it’s often difficult to meet everyone in the club. This is the fifth in a series of interviews that Westurn is doing with members.
Danny Klajmanmember since June 2015
Wes: What things do you make?
Danny: Personally, I enjoy turning larger pieces. Fruit bowls and platters to artistic creations. I not the greatest turner by any means but the challenge working with bigger lumps of wood spark my interest. I also have fun carving burls and other odd shaped pieces. Wes: When did you learn to turn and why? Danny:Working with wood was a discipline that came to me about 3 years ago. Throughout my schooling and working life I never worked with wood or had any real interest in. One day at the medieval festival in Blacktown, I came across a group of men working on a lathe demonstrating turning. It fascinated me and I asked a few questions and decided to give it a go. Being semi-retired, I had time on my hands and was looking for a way of engaging with people while leaning a new skill. Wes: What do you like about the club? Danny: Without doubt the people. There is not a member who isn’t friendly or helpful. The quality of the people and their eagerness to help me with my turning has and continues to make me a better turner and person. If I’m not sure how to use a tool properly, have trouble problem solving particular turning challengers or want to sit down for a cuppa and a chat, there is always someone available with a cheeky smile willing to oblige. The friendships I have made are will be with me for years and I consider myself to be lucky to have found a great bunch of slightly crazy people to enjoy spending time with. Wes: Where were you born? Danny: Parramatta Hospital. Fantastic place and an even better football team…well we will be again one day. Wes: Are you still working? Danny: I work part time. I have a small commercial cleaning business. Two days (well actually early evenings) per week. Wes: Do you sell the things you make? Danny: Yes. I don’t really sell much but it’s always a buzz when someone likes something I made enough to actually show their appreciation by giving me a few dollars. Wes: Do you have a lathe at home? Danny:I have a lathe set up in my shed. I have accumulated a bench drill, band saw and an assortment of tools. Not that many really. I would go out and tinker one day a week for about 4 to 6 hours. Wes: Do you go to the club Demonstration days? Danny:Absolutely. At first, I found it a bit hard to attend. I was nervous and a little worried about what I would have to do as well as what people would think of my work. But after biting the bullet and putting my name down, I found that I was worried about nothing. To have people show interest in my work and ask questions about our club as well as spending a few hours joking around with fellow members, makes for an enjoyable day. I highly recommend it to all members. I don’t go to sell my wares. That’s a bonus. It’s the feeling of helping the club, talking to the public about my hobby and engaging with members that I may not see through the week make it a fulfilling experience. Wes: How many days a week do you come to the club?
Danny:Mondays and Wednesdays are my days. Sometimes I’ll drop in on the other days to catch up with friends.

BunningsBBQ Marsden Park 27th
October 2018
It was just after 7am when we arrived at Bunnings Marsden Park where we then set up as quickly as
possible on what was looking like a warm day. Trade was steady throughout the day with quite a few busy
periods.
Thank you to all those who were there , either all day, or on the morning or afternoon shifts Thank you to
those new faces who attended on the day. A good day of camaraderie was had by all with many laughs.
The day closed around 4pm on what was a very profitable day for the Club. Please feel free to come along
these BBQ’S even if only for a few hours as all assistance is greatly appreciated.

My column this month comes to you with acknowledgement to Richard Glover. The Dustmite thought that
Richard’s recent column in Spectrum was so enlightening that you should not be deprived of the
opportunity to appreciate his wisdom. These extracts appeared under the heading - Taking The Law Into My
Own Hands.
1. The contentment of a baby is in inverse proportion to the comfort of the adult holding it.
2. There is no building that lasts longer than one that has been placed there temporarily.
3. The longer a politician’s speech the less he/she will actually say.
4. The more times a road or rail project is announced the less likely it is to ever be commissioned.
5. If a politician displays a passionate interest in helping a local business he probably owns it.
6. Politicians best known for their weird hair rarely prove great leaders.
7. The more joyful the honeymoon, the more bitter the inevitable divorce.
8. The quality of music leaking out of a pair of headphones is in inverse proportion to the volume at
which it is being played.
9. The likelihood of a pen leaking increases with the price of the shirt into whose pocket the pen has
been placed.
10. The uglier the couch, the more comfort it will provide.
11. Should a parody of any kind by be placed on the internet, the most passionate comments will involve
people who’ve entirely missed the point.
12. Any spoon placed at random in a kitchen sink will automatically position itself beneath the tap, thus
ensuring a wide-arching spray over the washer-up when the tap is turned on.
13. The shorter the conversation between two men, the deeper the friendship.
14. The deeper the friendship between two women, the happier the phone company.
Quote of the month:When a wife asks her husband to perform a task that she cannot master she will
inevitably commence to tell him how to perform the task.
Authors: Husbands of the universe.

true of wood turning. These articles are the results of my reading article publications.
