Why I’m a member of WPC:

I moved to Gainesville in 1997 with a brand-new nursing degree and a job offer from Shands. Except for the interview, I had never been to Gainesville, knew nobody here, and was taking a huge leap. While I was raised very strongly in the Presbyterian church, my attendance had faltered although my faith had not. Making this new start seemed like the time to renew my church affiliation and I visited several churches before settling on Westminster. From the first day, the people were incredibly welcoming. The church encouraged the social idealism from my youth but put it into Christian framework. I became part of a church family which supported God’s justice in the community, and I attended weekly study to gain a deeper understanding of our faith. It was a safe place to express both joy and doubt. All the while, I did not become a member. Then after several years, one Sunday, Glenn Dickson was baptizing a baby. He would always hold the baby up with it facing the congregation, then ask if the congregation would promise to support, love, and guide this baby in the faith. I realized that as a non-member, I could not technically make this promise. Very quickly thereafter, I set the process in motion and was able to transfer my church membership from my previous Westminster Presbyterian Church in Alabama to my current Westminster. My faith and the support of this congregation have sustained me through that 20 year nursing career and into my retirement, and I am grateful every day. Linda Clary

2020 Stewardship Campaign found faithful - in little - with much - with all.

From the teachings of 1st Corinthians we are admonished as servants of Christ and stewards of God’s mysteries “it is required of stewards that they be found trustworthy.” Thus we are to live faithfully, with a vision toward today and tomorrow’s prospects for our ministry and mission at Westminster. This refocusing of our values leads

to a faithful life of simplicity, contentment, generosity and courage. God is able to do far more abundantly than anything we are able to ask or even think about asking for. Perhaps even more amazingly, God chooses to work through us to accomplish more than we can imagine. During the month of November, stewardship emphasis for our congregation is called “Being Found Faithful.“ We will learn how to become more dedicated stewards as we explore what it means to live out our faith by our gifts. You will find Time & Talent Survey and 2020 Stewardship Pledge cards in the foyer. You may also learn more on our Stewardship Campaign for 2020 on our website. On November 24th we will join together to present our estimates of giving in support of the ministry and mission to which we are called as the Westminster Presbyterian congregation

However, we would encourage you to make an ecobrick with your next empty container. To learn how to make an ecobrick you can search your computer for "how to make an Eco-brick," or ask Ina Boyd, Burton Bennett or Nancy C. Griffin.
