Belt Chain Measuring

You can use Chaining Buddy to accurately measure distances travelled in rough country or forest-ed conditions. Designed to use a 2.5 kilometer spool of topofil (similar to sewing thread). To measure, simply clip the Chaining Buddy to your belt, tie the thread to a fixed object at your starting point, and begin walking in your chosen direction. As the topofil pulls out, a counter continuously displays the distance that has been travelled. Lightning Meter Measuring

Lightning is well known to kill more people than any other natural weather event, yet its risk is often considered as being so remote that many organizations simply overlook the real dangers to which their staff and emplyees may be subjected to during the course of their normal duties. Australian statistics show that lightning kills and injures more people annually than those killed or injured by shark attack, yet the shark attack risk prompts aerial patrols, beach netting, lifesavers, and often live media broadcasts to warn against that risk. Australian Standard AS 1768-2003 states that around six to ten persons die in Australia annually. It is also reported that around eighty instances of lightning injury per annum are attributed to the use of fixed line telephones, however with the current and increasing trend towards using perma-nently fixed modern telephone headsets, such statistics are expected to compound an increase in these types of telephone related lightning injuries. The good news is that there is modern technology available to minimize the lightning risk, whilst there are also simple lightning safety instructions that should also be understood, especially during periods of localized thunderstorms. Skyscan is an affordable hand-held lightning detection device which provides the user a factual dataset of information with which to gauge their own individual safety, as well as that of others during those times where higher risk conditions exist. It is able to detect lightning as far as 60 kilometres away, by both an audible tone and through a visual alert by way of four LED's. A range selector allows the user to choose at which range detected lightning strikes will sound the audible warning tone, which prompts the user to seek safe shelter until the risk has passed. Skyscan Skyscan is powered by two 9V batteries, or by (optional) 240VAC and/or 12 volt power adaptors. A low battery warning lights when the unit has approximately five hours of operational life re-maining in the batteries. After5 five hours an Automatic Shutoff cuts in for extended battery life. Lightning Detector Skyscan P5-3 ThunderBolt 2 with Intelicharge uses a proprietary technology to detect and determine the distance to severe weather, which is virtually always indicated by lightning activity. Through the application of advanced electronics and proprietary software, its high sensitivity, single-channel receiver detects electro-magnetic field emissions from lightning activity within a storm cell. Thunderbolt 2 then converts this data into digital signals and feeds them to its microprocessor for analysis. In addition to identifying the waveforms characteristic of storm activity, Thunderbolt 2 performs continuous analysis of background electromagnetic interference (EMI) at the user location. This function is critical for minimizing false-triggering from non-storm noise sources, and maintaining accuracy of storm data. A computer analyzes the detected energy levels on the frequencies observed, and then calculates the real distance in kilometres to the detected storm activity. In a fraction of a second, the Thunderbolt 2 displays warning information on its LCD display including: The distance to storm activity, Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) measured from the users location Storm intensity information. Just as important as ETA, is the ETC “Estimated Time to Clear” information which is monitored continuously with 15 second data updates. Flashing LEDs and an audible alarm provide warning. ThunderBolt 2’s LCD continuously displays the time until the storm clears the area for safe re-sumption of work or activity, with the least downtime and maximum productivity. The KT-10 C/KT-10R C are handheld instru-ments that measure the conductivity of rock samples and drill cores. Major Benefits New Rectangular Coil Available The KT-10 C is now available in two different coil configurations: the KT-10R C with Rectangular Coil or the standard KT-10 C with Circular Coil. Programmable Calibration Curve Capability Users can also program additional calibration curves which are specific to the samples and cores being measured. By taking a number of magnetic susceptibility measurements from a range of samples with known concentration values, users can program their own calibration curves using the GeoView Software. Two magnetic susceptibility standards are now available as options for the KT-10 Plus S/C. The standards are manufactured from a suitable Mn-Zn Ferrite compacted with mudstone. Their purpose is to confirm that the meters are operating properly, or to recalibrate them in both low and high magnetic susceptibility environments. Nominal susceptibility will vary between standards.

Density

Scale not Included, as we have a number of different options available Procedure: 1. Dry the sample at 110 °C for a period of 24 hours ± 4 hours. This will remove any trapped moisture from the interior of the sample and ensure that a true dry bulk density is achieved. After drying, allow the samples to return to room temperature prior to testing. 2. Determine the dry weight of the sample and record this weight as W. 3. Fill the water tub and set up the scale to be bottom loading. The water level in the tub should be deep enough to fully cover the sample in the basket. Allow the water to come to room tem-perature and then check that the water is at 20-23°C and at a specific gravity of approximately 1. 4. Attach the sample basket to the bottom of the scale as shown in the diagram below. Make sure to tare the scale out prior to starting testing. 5. Place the sample into the basket and record the weight as the suspended weight (S). 6. Calculate the volume (V) as the difference between the original dry weight, W, and the sus-pended weight, S. 7. Calculate the bulk density by diving the dry weight, W, by the volume (V).

Determining the Specific Gravity of Dry Solids The desired sample should be dry and between 10 mesh and 100 mesh (Tyler) . Hang the dry, empty container on the scale and pour in the dry sample of dry material until the pointer indicates 1.000 Kilograms on the outer ring of the dial (the container now has 1.000 Kg of material in it). Pour the sample onto a rolling cloth or sheet of paper. Fill the container one third full with clear water and gradually stir in the dry sample. Insure that the sample is thoroughly wetted and that air bubbles are eliminated. Hang the container on the scale and add clear water up to the overflow holes. Read the dry solids specific gravity on the innermost ring of the dial chart.

Determining Percent Solids If you know the specific gravity of the dry solids in the pulp (see determin-ing the specific gravity of dry solids), you can directly read the percentage in the pulp on the dial chart. Select the correct dial face for the particular dry solid specific gravity in the pulp. Hang the filled container on the scale. The percent solids in the pulp read clockwise from the specific gravity number on the green, white and red rings of the dial chart. EXAMPLE A reading of 44% solids at 2.2 specific gravity also reads 39% solids at 2.6 specific gravity and 35% solids at 3.2 specific gravity.
