Western Graduate Writes Hit Novel Dan Cushman has recently written a book, Stay Away, Joe, which has been chosen as one of the two Book-of-the- Month club selections for April. Dan, who is living in Great Palls at present, has tried many different vocations and has lived in many different places in his life. Although he attended nearly every branch of the University of Montana, Dan can be rightly claimed by Western, since he received his degree from Wèst ern in 1934. Congratulations to a graduate of Western, Dan Cushman. Art Club Uses RussellReproduction On Stationery Reproduction of a Charles Russell original will be the main feature of the stationery on sale by members of the Art club sometime this spring. The design will be done in two-tone, sepia on a deep tan background. The paper is to be two-fold, personal size, with the picture at the bottom of the front sheet. Other assorted articles are also being prepared for the spring sale by mem bers of the club and various art and craft classes. Art club members were entertained by Mrs. Emerick in her home last eve ning at which time further plans were discussed. This gathering is an annual Art club activity. Dick McGuire Named On All-Conference Team At the Montana Collegiate Conference spring meeting, March 27, Captain Dick McGuire of the 1952-53 Bulldogs was voted to the all-conference basketball team. The first five in addition to McGuire is made up of Russell and Jurovich of Rocky Mountain, Heins of Eastern and Romasko of Carroll. Dan Connors, senior, and Wayne An derson, freshman, rated honorable mention. The conference set up plans for com petition in track, baseball, tennis, and golf. The spring sports carnival will be at Helena, May 15 and 16. In the election of new officers, Coach Bill Straugh becomes president of the Montana Collegiate Conference for the ensuing year. Western was well represented by Leon Green and Roy Larson under the auspices of Dr .Bruno Katz. Jean Ivie of Western acted as chairman. The University teams under Professor Ralph McGinnis, consisted of Catherine Doherty and Terese Lowney on the negative and Eton Cameron and Byron Robb on the affirmative. The topic for debate is “The Con gress of the United States should make a Fair Employment Practices Law.” Western’s representatives took the af firmative in the first engagement, and in the second supported the negative proposition. This was a practice meet; neverthe less, it gave both delegations a taste of what is to come in the official meets (Continued on page 4) The Men of Song, a male quartet, will appear here tonight at 8:15 as the last in the Community Concert series for this season.
